Executive Bio

Dr. Mehmood Khan, M.D., FACE, has been the Chief Scientific Officer of Global Research & Development and Executive Vice President at Pepsico, Inc. since May 2012 and has been its Vice Chairman since February 2015. Dr. Khan has 20 years of experience in both the academic and clinical arenas. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Global Nutrition at Pepsico, Inc. from November 2010 to May 2012. He served as the Chief Scientific Officer of Pepsico, Inc. from 2008 to May 2012 and served as its Senior Vice President since 2008. He served as the President of Takeda Global Research & Development Center, Inc. from January 2007 to April 2008. He served as Vice President of Medical & Scientific Affairs for Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc. Prior to joining TPNA in January 2003, he was a Faculty Member at the Mayo Clinic, where he served as Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and Director of the Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutritional Trials Unit/Nutrition Clinical Trials Unit in the Division of Endocrinology. He was also a Faculty Member at the Mayo Medical School. He served as Vice President of Sub-Saharan Africa for GlaxoSmithKline. Dr. Khan is also Chair of PepsiCo's Sustainability Council, where he oversees the PepsiCo's three core priorities: helping to improve health and well-being through the products they sell, protecting the planet and empowering people around the world. He has been a Director of CorMedix, Inc. since June 26, 2017 and Spectrum Health System since December 2017. He has been a Director of Indigo since July 12, 2017. He serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research. He has been a Member of Board of Managers at HemoShear Therapeutics, LLC (formerly, HemoShear, LLC) since November 13, 2012. He has been a Member of Strategic Advisory Board at Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. since October 2016. He serves as a Member of Advisory Council at The Kitchen. He also serves on a number of national committees, serves as vice chairman for industry, on the U.S. Council for Competitiveness and as chairman, on the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He spent nine years leading diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism and nutrition programs in the Department of Medicine for Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He spent six years with the department of food, sciences and nutrition at the University of Minnesota. He has published many articles and authored numerous abstracts on diabetes research and frequently reviews manuscripts for medical journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Outcomes and Management and Endocrine Practice. He participates in numerous visiting professorships and frequently lectures on diabetes, in forums including the New York Academy of Science, Medical Grand Rounds around the world and many major medical meetings. He also is a fellow in the American College of Endocrinology. Dr. Khan earned his Medical Degree from the University of Liverpool Medical School, England and completed a Fellowship in Clinical Endocrinology in the Department of Medicine from the University of Minnesota. He received his postgraduate training in the areas of food science and nutrition at the University of Minnesota.
