Frequently Asked Questions About Riot Games

  • Below are some steps you should take if the updated League client is slow, laggy, or freezing up on your computer.

Note: These steps are intended to improve client performance, not in-game performance. If you're seeing lag or FPS drops in-game, please enable the Close Client During Game function at the top of your League settings, or check out our low FPS guide.

    Enable Low Spec mode

Low spec mode turns off several client animations and visual effects. In return, you should see a performance increase. You can find low spec mode by going to your League settings (the cog at the top right of the client) and checking the box next to "Enable Low Spec Mode" on the first settings page.

Use the client's default window size.

The client runs best at default window size: 1280x720. Use the Restore Defaults button in the top right of the settings page to reset the size.

Try to use a wired internet connection

A weak internet connection can cause the client to lag, especially during champion select. You can learn more about your internet connection's impact on the game here.

Close applications and programs you don't need.

Some applications may use a lot of your computer's resources while you're playing or navigating the client. Close any applications you're not actively using to improve performance.

Make sure your software is up-to-date

You can find information about updating your video card drivers here, and updating your sound drivers here.

You should also check to make sure you're using the latest version of your operation system. Windows users can update their operating system by navigating to the start menu and searching for "Windows Update". Mac users can click the Apple icon and click "Software Update" to check for and apply any updates.

Make sure your computer is using its dedicated graphics card

This guide will walk you through setting up your dedicated graphics card.

    Configure your firewall and antivirus

Aggressive firewall and antivirus settings can slow down the client, and potentially prevent you from connecting to champion select or a match. Please refer to our firewall troubleshooting guide to make sure your firewalls will work with the client.

Ensure you have enough space in your hard drive for League

A full hard drive can cause the client, or even your computer, to operate slowly. League requires 8 GB of space to run, but may take up to 12 GB as new patches replace old files.

We also recommend periodically defragmenting your computer if you're on Windows. You can learn how to do so here.

Double-check League's minimum and recommended system requirements

League will run on minimum specs, but you'll see much better performance if your computer hits our recommended specs. You can review the system requirements here.

  • While you’re in queue, League’s matchmaking system puts together a game that tries to balance three things:

Fair matches - Each team is roughly the same skill

Position preference - You get to play a position you want to play

Fast queue times - The time spent queuing is as short as possible

Trying to keep these things balanced requires a lot of tuning, but here’s a rough guide on how it works behind the scenes.

    Matchmaking Rating

Your Matchmaking Rating (MMR) is a number that Riot uses to determine your skill, and when matchmaking, the skill of your opponents. Everyone’s MMR starts at the same point when playing a queue for the first time. It goes up when you win, and goes down when you lose. When looking for games to put you in, it will look for other players whose numbers are close to yours. You have a separate MMR in each queue, so you can climb in one queue without it affecting others.

    Fair matches

To the matchmaker, a “fair” match can be loosely defined as a match in which each team has a 50\% +/-1\% chance of winning. In a perfect match, ten individuals with identical MMRs queue at the same time, each having selected a unique position that they’re well-suited for. That situation is incredibly rare depending on who is queueing at the time, so sometimes teams can have very slight skill differences (on average, no more than 4-5 MMR).

    Position preference

You must select two preferred positions when entering a draft queue. Your Primary position will be prioritised, with your Secondary as backup. In the event we can’t find a full team comp at your skill level, there’s a small chance you will be Autofilled (which we talk about in-depth here ). It’ll trigger if queue times get too long, which is usually because there’s a shortage of one or more positions in the queue - we consider this a last resort to get you into a game.

    Fast queue times

Having fair matches is still a huge priority to ensure League is competitive, but long queue times can be frustrating. Ultimately, we’d rather you wait a little longer in the queue to get a fairer match, but we know waiting in a queue is probably the least fun part of League. The longer you’re waiting, the matchmaking system may be searching slightly further from your MMR.

    Bringing it all together

As mentioned, the ideal scenario is that ten individuals quickly play a perfectly-balanced match. But there are plenty of factors that we also have to consider:

Matches played during low-activity times of day

Parties of players with very different MMRs

A shortage of one or more positions (sometimes resulting in one or more players being autofilled)

These all throw curveballs at the matchmaker, forcing it to weigh one aspect more heavily than the others. There are also factors that affect the perception of a fair match:

One or more players trying an off-position

One or more players trying an unfamiliar champion

An otherwise fair match in which one lane has an unfair matchup

Games can snowball out of control with early game champions or assassins, for example

Sometimes, players just have bad games!

    Climbing the ladder

While MMR is the number we use to determine your opponents, your personal progress is represented by the Leagues system. Here are a few familiar situations to illustrate the difference between your League and your MMR:

You’re winning a lot, and the matchmaker is placing you against stronger opponents.

A Silver player pushing for Gold should expect to see higher-tier players in their games. It means you’re winning more than you’re losing, and it means the matchmaker is starting to suspect that you’re worthy of higher placement. If you’re on a big win streak, you may even start to see opponents several divisions above you.

Your opponent is losing a lot, and the matchmaker is placing them against lower-ranked opponents to find them an appropriate spot on the ladder.

The team’s average MMR is the same, but one team has five roughly-equal teammates and the other team has a few very highly-ranked players and a few lower ones. This one is pretty rare outside of full-premade teams, but we make our best efforts to try and ensure that we still balance queue times into fair matches.

While we know some matches may feel like stomps, we do try to make sure all teams have a 50 +/-1\% chance of victory using all the information we have, because part of what makes League so competitive is getting to face similarly-skilled opponents.

  • When you are permabanned from League of Legends, you are no longer allowed to play League of Legends using this account.

    At this point, you have:

Been given your chat logs that resulted in the ban

Been banned previously for poor behavior

Are aware that by continuing saidbehavior, you risked being permabanned

    Review your Chat Logs

Congratulations! You have not been punished due to recent games. Keep it up!

Players have reported you {reportCount} times in the past {gameCount} games for negative or abusive behaviors in chat. Here are some chat logs from games where you were heavily reported:

Error parsing your session. Please log in again.

    Please log in first.

It's been too long since you've logged in, please log in again.

You have requested data too fast. Please slow down.

An unknown error has occurred. Please try again.

    Can my permaban be removed?

Permabans are almost never removed. Usually by the time you have reached being permabanned, you have already been banned before. You were aware that your behavior was unacceptable according to the Terms of Use and the Summoner’s Code. Bans coming from the Instant Feedback System are generally not lifted or adjusted. Correctly placed penalties will not be removed.

Please keep in mind, even if you did not receive several warnings, it is possible to bypass the Two Week or Permanent suspensions based on theseverityof your behavior in the game. Excessive negative behavior can result in a permanent ban at any time without any prior warning or restriction.

I wasn't playing during that game! Can't you do something about this?

Remember that you are fully responsible for all activity made on your account, and if suspensions or bans are incurred, we will not be able to modify them. If you feel that your account may have been compromised, please see the Account Recovery Guide for more information and instructions to help recover your account.

    Why was I permabanned?

You got permabanned because you continued showing disruptive behavior. Usually by the time you have reached being permabanned, you have already been banned before. During each of these bans, you have been given your chat logs, or other kinds of evidence, that have led to the bans in an effort to help you learn and improve your own actions.

The reality is that the behavior displayed was so negative or disruptive that it breached the Summoner's Code or Terms of Use. Such behavior can be severe enough to bypass all other warnings and result in the immediate banning of your account.

I don't deserve the ban! Another player deserves it more!

We can not discuss other players’ actions with you, but there is always an option to report them at the end of a game and mute them when in-game. Regardless of how others act, there is no excuse for raging back or responding to people trying tilt you. You are the only one responsible for your actions and words.

    What I said in-game didn't deserve a ban!

We work with the overall community, and within our own company guidelines, to identify what disruptive behavior is and what the consequences for those behaviors should be. Again, this is either not the first time you have been told your actions were inappropriate, or your actions were severe enough to warrant an immediate ban. We understand that it can be difficult to know where the line is, which is why we provide chat logs, and we have a few tiers in the ban process in order to allow for you to learn and grow before a permanent ban is implemented.

  • Honor Level Reset

Why does my Honor level reset?

Your Honor level resets at season start just like your rank. Unless you were below Honor level 2 before the new season, everyone starts between Honor levels 2 and 3.

Why does my Honor level reset to a checkpoint?

Players who consistently fought with honor in their games and finished at higher Honor levels earn a head start to getting better rewards than those who didn’t. You can see which checkpoint you’re reset to on the Honor website.

    Honor Orbs

How do I get Honor Orbs?

You get an Honor Orb everytime you reach a checkpoint past level 3. Even though checkpoints stop after level 5, you still get level 5 Orbs at the same intervals as checkpoints. Since there’s no level 6, they aren’t called checkpoints.

Do Orbs need keys to open?

No, they’re like Capsules and entirely keyless.

Do Orbs get better at every checkpoint?

No. Orbs get better at every level.

Do Orbs get better as I level up in Honor?

Yes! Orbs have more key fragments and better rewards each time you level up.

So I dropped from Honor level 5 because of a penalty. Do I still get Orbs when I reach checkpoints?

Yes! You’ll get an Orb for that level every time you reach a checkpoint.

    Honor levels

Do I need to do anything special to progress?

You level up just by playing to win in your games. Show up, don’t intentionally work against team, and you’ll progress in the coming weeks and months. If your teammates honor you a lot, you’ll get a slight bonus in progression and rewards like loading screen flairs.

If I get no Honors, do I still level up?

You will. All you have to do is show up and try to win in all your games.

Does voting for my teammates contribute to my Honor level?

Yes, but you’ll need a little help. A whole team gets a slight bonus to their honor level if every teammate votes. Just like the game, you win or lose as a team.

Do I get better rewards at higher Honor levels?

Yes! We heard your feedback and made sure your rewards level up when you do. Orbs and Capsules have better rewards with every level up.

Can I game the system and boost to level 5 by constantly playing with a premade and honoring each other every game?

Nice idea. We had it too. So we specifically built Honor so potential exploits like this give you (and your friend) literally no benefit.

    When will I level up?

After completing three checkpoints in an Honor level, the next milestone is a level up. Checkpoints begin after Honor level two and end when you reach level five.

    Honor Checkpoints

    What are checkpoints?

Checkpoints are markers for how far you’ve progressed in a level. You have to complete three checkpoints in every level before leveling up and earn a reward every time you reach one. You won't receive rewards for checkpoints at Honor level 0.

What happens after I finish my third and last checkpoint in a level?

When you reach your third checkpoint, you’re on the way to the next milestone: a level up.

What happens to checkpoints after level 5?

Checkpoints stop after level 5. You’ll still get level 5 Orbs for consistently honorable play, but since there’s no level 6, they aren’t called checkpoints.

I'm Honor level 5 and got reset to level 2, checkpoint 3. Do I miss out on rewards?

You'll miss out on a few Honor level 2 Orbs. But you'll get to higher rewards faster, and they'll keep coming even after you're back at level 5.

    Honor Capsules

Why do I get fewer Honor Capsules this season?

With the addition of Honor Orbs, you’ll still get regular and even more consistent rewards. We decided Honor Capsules should be more exclusive and carry the best rewards so reaching the next Honor level feels extra special.

I don’t get random Capsules like before?

Nope. You get three Capsules over the entire season when you reach Honor levels 3, 4, and 5.

What kinds of rewards are in the Honor capsules?

Every Capsule will have a few key fragments, a cosmetic reward, and champion shards. Capsules have better rewards at every level up. Find out what’s inside each one on the Honor website.

How do I get Honor Capsules?

You get an Honor Capsule in your level up ceremony when you reach Honor levels 3, 4, and 5.

Do Honor Capsules need keys to open?

    Nope. They're basically key-free chests.

I already have Medieval Twitch and Grey Warwick skins! What do I get instead?

If you already have those skins, your Honor level 5 Capsule will have five key fragments, and either an emote or a ward skin.

Is it possible to get both the Medieval Twitch and Grey Warwick skins this season, since we only get the one Level 5 capsule with those skins?

No, it is not possible to get both in a single season, you will receive one or the other. The trade off is the guarantee of at least one, which was not present last season. Previously you were not guaranteed to earn either of these skins, but this year you are guaranteed to earn at least one in your level 5 honor capsule.

So I got a penalty and dropped from Honor level 5. Can I get Honor Capsules again when I level up?

No. You only get an Honor Capsule once. But you will get an Orb for that level instead.

    Key fragments

Do all my key fragments still drop through Honor?

Yes. When we updated Honor last year we decided all key fragments would drop through the new feature. That’s still the case.

How do I get key fragments?

Get all your key fragments by doing two simple things: Playing games, and avoiding Instant Feedback penalties like chat restrictions and bans. That's it. It's an intentionally low bar, because we want you to get your stuff. You don’t need to be honored by teammates to get keys. Individual honors are connected to other rewards like loading screen flairs. Keys can drop whether you win or drop the game. Key fragments hit while browsing the client or on login. You’ll also get key fragments at checkpoints and level ups.

Will I just get keys by idling with the client on?

Not just by idling. You need to play games to get key fragments. So for instance, If you spend your Saturday playing games and leave the client on overnight, you might wake up to a nice surprise. If you just boot up your client and don’t play games, you won’t get any key fragments.

So, they'll just show up sometimes?

Yep. Just like a fed Twitch coming out of stealth.

Are there any changes to chests with Honor?

Just like before, they’ll be locked away for a bit if you’ve been penalized, until your honor is unlocked again.

    Loading screen flairs

How do I get a loading screen flair?

First, hit level 3. Then earn honor from two premade teammates or one stranger in one game. The flair will unlock for your next matchmade game.

My flair disappeared after one game, why?

They’re meant to show off that you’re coming off a great game, so they only last one game. Once you're level 3 or better, get an Honor from two premade teammates or one stranger to unlock flair in your next game.

Is there a cooldown on loading screen flairs?

Nope. If you keep earning honors, you'll keep your flair across each game you rock the Rift and earn honors.

Will I get a different loading screen flair per category?

Not today, but that's a damn good idea.

Do they get bigger like Champ Mastery?

They do! At level 4 and 5 the flairs grow.

    Penalties and locks

How do I drop a level in Honor?

You’ll only drop if you receive a penalty. A chat restriction knocks your Honor level to 1, or 0 if you’re already at level 1. A two week suspension will drop your level to 0 (even if you were higher). In both cases, your honor progress will be locked, making your account ineligible for hextech crafting rewards. Your honor progress will unlock some time after your restriction as long as you show signs of reform.

What do you mean by lock my Honor level and rewards?

You'll see a lock on your Honor level in your profile. This means you aren't making any progress to the next level, and you won't receive any rewards. Unlock your Honor level by putting clean games in. You’ll get a notification when you’ve unlocked your Honor level.

What's the deal with level 1 and 0?

If you fall below level 2, you were hit with a penalty or two, and the first step is to put in clean games to unlock your Honor level. Once you do, your games help you climb back to better rewards, just like how it’s worked since Loot launched.

Are rewards cut for these levels?

At level 1, you earn many less key fragments than normal. At level 0, also known as Dishonorable, you don't get any keys. It’s a bummer, but you can bounce back just by getting clean games in.

    Miscellaneous

How does Honor work if I transfer my account across servers?

Unfortunately, Honor won’t transfer. You’ll start on your new server at level 2.

What happens to my old honor ribbons?

They're going away because this is a total system overhaul. Think of this like a Galio-level champ rework, just for a system instead.

What about my old Honor points?

    Gone too.

  • Loss Prevention is feature of League of Legends that forgives a loss a player receives outside of their control. When an issue affects a large number of players all at once, a compensation mode is activated which enables loss prevention.

    What is Compensation Mode?

This mode is activated when League of Legends experiences server- or system-wide issues. It essentially tries to prevent players from being punished for reasons outside of their control.

Once it is active, the following rules apply:

Players will not receive a loss or a leave.

Players will not lose League Points (LP) or MMR.

Players will still receive a win at a 50\% rate for LP/MMR gains.

Players will not receive a loss if they are in the middle of their promo series.

Players will receive all of the earned XP for the game.

Stats will be recorded and saved for games, but they will not apply for any lifetime totals.

    How does this mode activate?

This mode only activates when a large number of players are being impacted on a system-wide scale. We hit something we call "The Button" to activate it for the platform. Compensation Mode cannot be retroactively enabled or turned on for a player on an individual basis.

What does hitting "The Button" mean?

This means that we've activated Compensation Mode. All impacted games will be marked with a Loss Prevented.

What does a Loss Prevented look like?

When you view your match history, the impacted game will be marked in red with Loss Prevented.

  • Your account has received a temporary time-locked ban where you are no longer allowed to play League of Legends using this account for the listed time period. This means you acted in a way that Riot Games and League of Legends considers inappropriate for in-game behavior.

You are now much closer to receiving a permanent ban on your account and should be very aware of your in-game behavior and how to improve to keep your account from being permabanned.

    At this point, you have:

Been given your chat logs that resulted in this ban and any previous bans.

Are aware that continuing this behavioris unacceptable.

Are one step closer to receiving a permaban.

What can I do to not be banned in the future?

We want to help you address your behavior so that you don't get banned! We have a few tips we heavily recommend so that you're not at risk for further action.

Our tips to not get banned are:

    Turn off all chat

Mute people/pings/emotes the moment you feel the urge to respond

Remove chat window by pressing enter when in-game, seeing the bar appear, and dragging the bar outside of your game window

Rage verbally at the screen in order to not chat in-game

Play with friends and avoid solo queue

Why did I get a ban?

You received a ban because the way you acted in game was deemed inappropriate. When you log into the client, you should have received the chat logs that exemplifies the behavior that lead to your ban. Use these chat logs to improve your communication with your teammates and opponents to avoid a future ban. You can always mute and report others at the end of a game, so there is no value in arguing with them while playing.

What happens if I get banned again?

Depending on what ban you just received, you might get another time-locked ban, or your account is at extreme risk of getting permabanned. Use the duration of your ban to reflect on your actions and take appropriate steps to ensure you are not re-banned in the future, which could result IN PERMANENT SUSPENSION OF YOUR ACCOUNT.

I don't deserve the ban! Another player deserves it more!

We can't discuss other players’ actions with you, but you can always report them at end of your game and mute them when in-game. There is no excuse for raging back or responding to people trying to get you to tilt. You are the only one responsible for your actions, and your words, which is what we are trying to address with these bans.

  • Bugs can be quite a pain when you run into them; they can exist in the form of something small like extra black dots around Teemo’s hat, or big like Cho’Gath suddenly doing double the true damage from his Feast ability. Our QA Team and engineers are always looking to fix bugs that negatively impact the player experience and we value your bug reports to help us squash these bugs.

The League Client Update includes a feature which allows you to submit a bug report to the appropriate teams. On the bottom right corner, you’ll see the Report a Bug button () which can be used to open the Report a Bug page.

Once there, you can fill out a bug report:

While the page says it's for League Client Update bugs, it will accept any bug - from store to gameplay, anything buggy you encounter can go here.

Where did you run into the bug?

This drop-down menu will allow you to tell us which portion of your experience was affected by the bug. (eg. Profile)

    Summarize the bug for us

In a single sentence, what does the bug do? (eg. If you play Teemo once, your Dynamic Background changes to Teemo’s splash art permanently)

Any specifics you think we should know?

Give us more context on the bugs and provide things like steps so we can reproduce it ourselves. (eg. What I did that led up to the bug:

Check your Profile page (if it’s not already Teemo).

Play one Normal Game as Teemo.

    Check your profile page again.

Result: You’ll see Teemo in your Dynamic Background. I’ve played other champions and even changed my Summoner Icon to Elementalist Lux, but the background remains Teemo’s splash art.)

Any links you think would help?

Provide any external links to resources that can provide additional context. (eg. Boards, Imgur, Reddit, Pastebin, Youtube, etc.)

What if I can’t open the League Client Update to report a bug?

In the off chance that you can’t use the Report a Bug button, you can use this link instead: https://pbr.leagueoflegends.com/na/en_US/bugReport/create

However, please note that using the Report a Bug button within the League Client Update is optimal as it includes additional data for our QA Teams and engineers.

  • If you're here after submitting a ticket, please make sure adblocker is offotherwise you won't be able to see the widget you need to solve your ticket!

    Problem solved?

You’re speaking with a League expert as part of a program Player Support's testing out (unless you found this page through a Google search, in which case...hi, this is weird). It's a bit of a different experience from speaking with a Riot agent, so this page is here to help answer any questions you may have. The expert doesn't have any access to your account information, so don't share it while you're chatting. You also don't need to hang out on the pageyou'll get an email when they respond!

If the expert solves your issue, great! You can close this page once you're done chatting (and hopefully after answering the little survey we add at the end). By submitting a ticket and chatting with a Directly expert, you've helped us a ton, so THANK YOU.

    What's Directly?

It's an app that hooks into our normal support channel and directs certain requests toward Experts. Experts help answer questions that probably don't need direct interaction with your account, so you get help faster. If they can't answer the question, it goes right back to a Riot agent.

    Who are Directly experts?

Chill players with high Honor scores and a history of positivity. We look for people who already spend a lot of time helping out on forums and in the community.

...Can they see my account information?

Nope. Experts only see your question. If your problem can't be solved with that information, they bump you to a Riot agent.

    Can I be an Expert?

Since this is a beta test, we're not looking for new Experts just yet. But come on, you're probably already an expert at something.

I'd like to learn more about Directly!

Sure thing, check 'em out here.

  • Before we dig in: if you encounter any issues in the updated client, your first step should be to restart the client. This should take care of most problems.

    1. Patching and Upgrading

How do I submit logs for the updated client?

I keep getting bug splats after reinstalling the updated client

I received the following error: "LCU has encountered a problem. Please re-install League alpha client to try again."

    2. Missing Client Content

Honor is missing from my profile and champion select screen

The updated client is not captured when I stream

I can't select intermediate difficulty for Co-op vs. AI on Twisted Treeline

The XP boost I purchased is not appearing on my account

    3. Performance

After I close League, the Leagueclient.exe is still running and takes a while before it terminates. If I try to open the game again, I get the message "Another instance is running"

My computer is a lower-end machine, and the updated client is running really slowly!

I don't see my issue on this list!

If you encounter an issue that’s not listed here, please use the bug icon that’s at the bottom of your friends list. These reports go directly to the team working on the updated client and help us track down and eliminate bugs much more quickly. Thanks for your help!

How do I submit logs for the updated client?

Download and run the Hextech Repair Tool and turn on "Gather System & LoL Logs". This will compact all the necessary logs into a zipped file. Submit your logs by creating a ticket, and let us know the details about where your performance is suffering the most.

Note: You will need to be signed in to submit this ticket!

I keep getting bug splats after reinstalling the updated client.

If you uninstall or reinstall the updated client, you may experience more frequent bug splats. The updated client shares files with the legacy client, so if you uninstall one it will affect the other.

To help prevent bug splats, uninstall all League of Legends files from your computer and start a fresh install.

I received the following error: "LCU has encountered a problem. Please re-install League alpha client to try again."

Follow these steps to resolve this error:

    Go to C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\ and delete LeagueClient.exe

    Run lol.launcher.exe

Open settings and click Full Repair

Honor is missing from my profile/champion select screen

There’s currently an issue which can prevent honor badges from appearing in your profile and during champion select. Honor is still being counted, and any badges you have should still appear in the loading screen and the end-of-game screen.

The updated client is not captured when I stream

The updated client is rendered differently from the legacy client on most graphics cards, so it may not show up on all streaming software depending on your settings. If your streaming software is configured using Game Capture settings, change your settings to Window Capture or Desktop Capture depending on which works best for you. Also make sure you’re using the correct streaming software version for your computer (32-bit or 64-bit), as compatibility issues may prevent the client from being captured correctly.

If you prefer not to change your settings, the game will still capture correctly when it launches; this issue is contained to the updated client.

I can't select Intermediate difficulty for Co-op vs. AI on Twisted Treeline

We're aware that this option is currently unavailable, and we're hoping to fix it soon!

The XP boost I purchased is not appearing on my account

This is just a visual bug--restart the client and you'll see it on your profile!

After I close League, the LeagueClient.exe is still running and takes a while before it terminates. If I try to open the game again I get the message "Another instance is running"

We’re aware of an issue that causes LeagueClient.exe from terminating properly upon exiting the game. If you experience this, going to your task manager by CTRL+ALT+DELETE and manually closing the LeagueClient.exe process should fix this issue.

My computer is a lower-end machine, and the updated client is running really slowly!

Our top priority is performance. Currently we’re seeing worse than normal performance on low-end machines running the updated client. We will continue to optimize the client to ensure players who are able to run the legacy client smoothly are able to do so in the updated client as well.

There are a few things you can do to improve performance:

Make sure you're using up-to-date drivers for your video card.

Under Client / General, use the "Restore Defaults" button to ensure the client is running at the default size. Both larger and smaller resolutions may impact performance.

Turn on low-spec mode. You can turn it on from the client settings by clicking the cog icon at the top right of your screen.

The "Close Client During Game" feature may make your game run faster, but you'll spend more time loading the end-of-game screen.

  • Basic Info

So, what is the Howling Abyss? And what does ARAM mean?

Howling Abyss is your battlefield, and ARAM is the game mode acronym which means "All Random All Mid." Think of it as a single lane, no-holds-barred battle between two teams of 5. Prepare yourself as a random champion is assigned to each player in thisfast-paced, team-fight heavy game mode.

What champions are included in the champion pool?

We want ARAM to be the random, wild adrenaline rush. As such, champions will be pulled from Summoner's Rift's last three Free to Play pools (including the current one).

    Where did ARAM come from?

ARAM was originally a custom game type created by players on Summoner's Rift. Because Summoner's Rift is a 3 lane map, players created a rule where all summoners had to meet up and battle in the middle. Players trusted one another to abide by certain restrictions on items, summoner spells, and returning to base. This ended up becoming so popular that it became official. Thus ARAM was born!

What happened to the old ARAM map?

The bridge collapsed from all of the stress and strain from the thousands of battles that took place on it.

Does that mean the Tutorial map will now be on the Howling Abyss?

Actually, the tutorial will be over on Summoner's Rift.

    Matchmaking

Can I earn XP from ARAM?

    Yes!

Is there an option to play Howling Abyss in Blind Pick or Draft Pick?

No, these are not available for matchmade games. However, these options are available for custom games!

Why aren't those modes available for matchmaking?

Based on previous tests on the old ARAM map, the percentage of players that selected these picks modes was simply lower than the random romp we have currently. This doesn't mean these modes aren't fun though, so we encourage you to experiment within your custom games.

Can I see my opponents' champions in the champion select screen?

Nope! Your opponents' champions will remain hidden until the loading screen. This means your team will remain hidden to your opponents as well.

What happens if I queue dodge during champion select?

You suffer a timer penalty and lose any reroll points you may have used during champion select.

What happens if I leave a matchmade ARAM game?

You will suffer the same penalty as leaving any other matchmade game. The LeaverBuster system also applies to this map!

    Rerolls

What's a reroll? And what's with the bench?!

When in the champion select screen, you have the option to reroll for another random champion as long as you have enough points to do so. This means you can reroll more than once.

Whenever you reroll a champion, that champ is sent to the Available Champions Pool, or thebench. There, your teammates (or you) can trade for it!

Can I use a reroll and end up with the same champion again?

    No.

How do I earn points for rerolls?

You gain points as you play matchmade ARAM games.

How many reroll points do I earn per game?

Win or lose, you earn a base number of points every match plus a bonus amount based on the amount of champions you own.

What happens to my points for the reroll if someone other than myself dodges?

If the match is disbanded due to an enemy or ally queue dodging, the cost is refunded. If the ally dodging was someone in your premade, you will still be refunded your reroll points.

  • A lot's been changing over in League of Legends. If it's been a while since you created your account, you'll see new champions, new game modes, and potentially a very confusing new username. If the name you use to log into League of Legends is looking like a garble of letters and numbers, there's a method to the madness.

So why is my Riot Account a bunch of random letters and numbers?

Recently we made the switch from League of Legends accounts to Riot Accounts. As part of that, some accounts needed to change in order to be globally unique (which you can read more about here ). In some cases, accounts that were inactive, and had never played a game of League of Legends, had their Riot Account username scrambled into a series of random letters and numbers in order to free up any conflicts with active usernames.

Can I change my Riot Account to something else?

If you want to update your username, you can go to the Riot Account Update page. This page won’t be available forever, though, so make sure you change your name sooner rather than later.

Been given your chat logs that resulted in this ban and any previous bans

Are aware that continuing this behaviour is unacceptable

Are one step closer to receiving a permaban

WHAT CAN I DO TO NOT BE BANNED IN THE FUTURE?

We want to help you address your behaviour so that you do not have to get banned! We have a few tips we would heavily recommend so that you do not get any further bans.

When you log into the client, you should have received your chat logs that exemplifies the behavior that lead to your ban. Use these chat logs to improve your communication with your teammates and opponents to avoid a future ban. You can always mute and report others at end of game so there is no value in arguing with them while in game.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET BANNED AGAIN?

Depending on what ban you just received, you might get another time locked ban or your account is at extreme risk of getting permabanned. Use the duration of your ban to reflect on your actions and take appropriate steps to ensure you are not re-banned in the future, which could result IN PERMANENT SUSPENSION OF YOUR ACCOUNT.

I WASN'T PLAYING DURING THAT GAME! CAN'T YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS?

Remember that you are fully responsible for all activity made on your account, and if suspensions or bans are incurred we will not be able to modify them. If you feel that your account may have been compromised, please see the following Knowledge Base article for more information and instructions to help recover your account: Account Recovery Guide.

I DON’T DESERVE THE BAN! ANOTHER PLAYER DESERVES IT.

We can not discuss other players’ actions with you but you can always report them at end of game and mute them when in game. There is no excuse for raging back or responding to people trying to get you to tilt. You are the only one responsible for your actions and your words which is what we are trying to address with these bans.

  • You may have been suspended for a chargeback, which happens when a bank reverses an RP purchase made on your account. If you lost access to your account and someone made purchases on it, send us a ticket and we’ll help. If you don’t remember reversing the payment, the bank or credit card owner may have done it for you. You also may have made a purchase through a third party, and they later reversed the payment.

However it happened, you can regain access to your account by paying the balance. We’ve artfully interpreted the issue here:

    Repaying a chargeback

Riot Repayments (NA, LAN, LAS, EUW, EUNE only)

This tool lets you handle your chargeback using PayPal, and PaySafe Cards. It's only available for accounts in North America, Latin America, and Europe right now, but we'll expand this in the future. Visit the website for your region, sign into your suspended account, and follow the prompts.

For NA, LAN, LAS visit Riot Repayments here,

For EUW, EUNE visit Riot Repayments here,

    PayPal

Go to paypal.com and log in. If you don't have a PayPal account, create one by clicking "sign up" in the top right.

Once you've logged in, click on the "Send & Request" tab.

Fill out all required information to send a payment. Your currency and target email address change based on your region:

LAN, LAS: [email protected] (USD only)

EUW, EUNE, TR, RU, OCE: [email protected] (EUR or GBP only)

You'll be prompted to add a note. Make sure to include your username, summoner name, and region.

Once your payment is posted, it'll take one to two business days for your suspension to be lifted.

Prepaid RP card (EUW, EUNE, OCE, BR only)

You'll need to purchase enough cards to repay your entire chargeback. Once you have them, send us a ticket with this information:

SUBJECT: Chargeback Payment - Prepaid RP card

    Username:

    Summoner name:

    Server:

    Card PIN(s):

    Amount per card:

Any money remaining on the submitted cards will be credited to your account as RP.

    Paysafecard (EUW, EUNE, TR only)

You'll need to purchase enough cards to repay your entire chargeback. Once you have them, send us a ticket with this information:

    Card PIN(s):

    Amount per card:

Any money remaining on the submitted cards will be credited to your account as RP.

    Bank transfer (BR only)

You'll have to send us a ticket in order to initiate a bank transfer.

    FAQ

My account was hacked. What happens if someone else made these purchases?

First, make sure you've got sole access to your email account, and change the password. Second, send us a ticket. We'll reverse any purchases that we can tell weren't made by you.

I purchased RP through a 3rd-party dealer, completely legitimately!

Don't do that. Seriously, there's no reason to buy RP through a third party. If you can't make RP purchases any other way for some reason, send us a ticket. If the third party is cutting you a deal on the RP, think about why; the reason is probably not benevolent. If you've got a chargeback after making a third-party RP purchase, you'll still need to repay the full balance yourself.

Why can't you just remove the purchases I made?

This would be a refund, and chargebacks aren't refunds (which are outlined in this article ). Banks consider chargebacks to be fraudulent activitythey'll only reverse a payment if they're led to believe it's unauthorized or otherwise suspicious. We get fined each time a chargeback happens, and too many chargebacks means some banks and card companies may stop doing business with us, which reduces the number of payment methods we can make available. In order to keep payment methods open worldwide, we have to take chargebacks seriously.

I don't have the money to pay this back, what can I do?

The suspension will stay on your account until your balance is repaid, but it’s not going anywhere. If you don’t want to repay right away, you don’t have to; you just won’t be able to access your account.

The full repair function can fail for a few different reasons, like having an old disk drive or not having permissions to write to your drive. If you receive an error when trying to repair League of Legends, try the following steps.

Each of these steps is a unique solution, so we've ordered them starting with the simplest fix.

First, restart your computer and try to repair again.

Make sure you are connected to the internet with a wired connection if possible.

Check how much free space your disk drive has. You need at least 8GB of free space for League of Legends to repair and patch properly.

Double-check that League of Legends isn't running any processes in the background. You can do this by checking your task manager in Windows (ctrl+shift+esc) or the activity monitor on Mac (command+space, type "activity monitor," hit enter).

If your computer has multiple users, make sure other users do not have League of Legends currently running.

Ensure that your disk drive is operating properly on Windows by running chkdsk:

Hit start, type "chkdsk", and hit enter.

Follow the on-screen prompts to check your hard drive for errors.

Ensure that your disk drive is operating properly on Mac by using Disk Utility:

Select the Mac hard drive from the left side menu and click on the "First Aid" tab.

Click on "Verify Disk" in the lower-right corner and let it run.

If your hard drive is functioning properly, you'll need to test your RAM:

Open the "Start" menu and type "Memory" into the search box. In the results, select "Windows Memory Diagnostic."**

Select "Restart now and check for problems" (be sure to save any open files!).

Run through the resulting troubleshooter once your PC restarts. If any errors occur, then this is most likely a RAM issue.

** If you're using Windows XP, there is no built-in memory diagnostic. Try using memtest, a free third-party software used to diagnose memory issues. You'll find instructions on how to use it on their site, but let us know in a ticket if you have any questions about the test.

If all else fails, please with your logs so we can try to identify what's causing your repair to fail. Reinstalling League of Legends may also resolve the issue.

  • Each time you press Q, a data packet embarks on a miraculous technological journey where everything can go horribly wrong. Here are some symptoms you might recognize - and the tools to help you fix things every step of the way.

    But first, take this!

The Hextech Repair Tool (HRT) is your best friend when it comes to tech support. It solves many technical problems on its own, and gathers system info and logs for us in case you’re still having issues and need to send a ticket. Basically, the HRT will either fix your issue or give us all the info we need to finish the job. Get the HRT here.

like that time we disabled ranked.

    THE SWAMP OF SLUGGISH PROCESSES

Before your packet can begin its voyage, it must fight through the programs within your computer that slow everything down. As you video chat with your friends while streaming music and torrenting great literature, your packet suffers.

    What can go horribly wrong

FPS drops - Things slow to a crawl during teamfights.

    Lag, disconnections, ping spikes.

Packet loss - When your game randomly stops, starts, speeds up and slows down before everything snaps back into place.

Strange bugs caused by your connection. Ever seen a weird, inexplicable error? Your game could just be stuck in the swamp.

    Game not loading.

    How to fix it

Close network-intensive programs before playing (streaming services, torrents, those 40 Chrome tabs, etc).

Check out this guide to removing the non-essential stuff from your computer.

    THE GATEKEEPERS: FIREWALL AND ANTIVIRUS

Next, your packet must contend with these stewards of your computer’s safety. Your antivirus programs and firewalls may protect you from the malware in that video your uncle sent you, but sometimes their love of fire and purging things goes too far, mistaking League for a harmful process and your packet for a heretic.

    What can go horribly wrong

Problems transitioning between champ select, in-game, and post-game lobby.

    Trouble logging in.

Errors and issues creating game lobby.

End-of-game stats never appearing, leaving you wracked with doubt over your grade (it was a B+).

Patching/installing issues - your computer’s guardians could be preventing League from updating properly.

    How to fix it

Here’s everything you need to know about making your firewall play nice with League.

Use the HRT to add firewall exceptions automatically for Windows. Did we mention the HRT is dope?

    WIRED VERSUS WIFI

Your packet is on its way, but will it be smooth sailing along a friendly 60-foot ethernet cord or the rocky road of WiFi? Those who place their trust in WiFi tell dark tales of lag spikes and packet loss; of ping so high it scrapes the heavens.

    What can go horribly wrong

    Packet loss

Disconnections, ping spikes - If your ping is fluctuating between normal and high numbers, WiFi may be to blame.

Frequent “attempting to reconnect” messages - usually while you’re tower diving.

Skillshots that appear to hit but totally miss giving you a lower MMR than you deserve.

    How to fix it

If possible, get a wired connection or upgrade your router.

If you’re stuck with WiFi, move as close to your router as possible. Ponder the cruel irony of being physically constrained by wireless internet.

Read this article for an in-depth look at WiFi vs. Ethernet.

    THE WILDERNESS OF THE INTERNET

Once your packet leaves home, it travels along the winding roads of the internet. If there’s a problem, it can be hard to find out where exactly it happened along the way and what can be done to fix it. Fortunately, your packet keeps track of its adventures in the form of “logs,” which help us get to the bottom of your issue by finding where and how things went wrong.

    What can go horribly wrong

Almost every symptom we’ve gone over so far.

Packet taking circuitous, indirect route to our servers.

In the grim darkness of the internet, there is only packet loss.

    How to fix it

How many detours did your packet take? A traceroute is a way to stalk - I mean trace - its path from your home to ours. Learn how.

WinMTR is a great way to run a traceroute if you want to be as thorough as possible.

Contact your ISP and ask if it’s a problem on their end. If you’re fed up, look into changing ISPs.

We’re carving our own path through the internet for League players. Learn about Riot Direct and what’s new for your region.

    RIOT SERVER ROOM

Success! Your packet has arrived at our server room. Or perhaps it hasn’t and something has gone horribly wrong. Either way, you can check the Server Status Page to keep tabs on us and see if it’s an issue on our end.

    What can go horribly wrong

Everything. But when it does, check the server status page and know that we’ll keep you in the loop until it’s fixed.

    How to fix it

If you think it’s an issue on our end, submit a ticket ! We’re here to help.

24 hours a day, we stand watch over the stability of League, ensuring precious data packets reach their destination intact. We’ve got plenty stories to tell,

  • About LeaverBuster

    What is LeaverBuster?

I just disconnected from two games! Am I going to get banned?

Are ranked, normal, and co-op games treated differently?

I left a custom/tutorial game and I got a warning that my account may be punished? I thought custom games didn't count?

My game keeps crashing/disconnecting. What can I do?

    About Low Priority Queue

What happens when I leave a game for the first time?

How long will I remain in the low priority queue?

What happens when I leave/dodge a game after waiting in the low priority queue?

What happens when someone else leaves/dodges a game after I waited in low priority queue?

What happens when I cancel the queue that I was waiting in?

Can you take me out of low priority queue?

    Additional Information

I crashed and got a leave/MMR loss. Can I get those removed from my account?

I'm a paying user. Shouldn't I get a bit of leniency on this?

It is not my fault. My internet/your servers disconnected me. I had a real-life emergency. I had to get off the computer. The game crashed. Unban me!

    About LeaverBuster

    What is LeaverBuster?

LeaverBuster is a system we have implemented in order to discourage Summoners from repeatedly leaving matches and/or idling during gameplay. Summoners who exhibit this behavior and have a trend of leaving/idling in games will be placed in a low priority queue.

I just disconnected from two games! Am I going to get banned?

No, your account will not be banned. However, it is possible to be punished for leaving just 1-2 games. Players who leave games will be placed in a low priority queue and will be required to play 5 matchmade games without leaving before exiting low priority queue.

Note: Leaving ranked games is considered more severe than leaving normal games.

Are ranked, normal, and co-op games treated differently?

Ranked is treated much more severely than normal when it comes to leavers. Games in which a player is considered a leaver always count as losses for them, even if their team is victorious.

I left a custom/tutorial game and I got a warning that my account may be punished? I thought custom games didn't count?

They don't. This message will appear every time you leave a game, but custom and tutorial games will not increase your risk of low priority queue. LeaverBuster only applies to games you have to queue up for, such as normal games, Ranked, Co-Op Vs AI, etc.

My game keeps crashing/disconnecting. What can I do?

    Please see the following article:

    Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If you need further assistance, please contact us and provide us with as much information as possible(screenshots of any errors, etc.) and we will do our best to assist you. It is possible that we may be able to help you prevent this from happening in the future.

    About Low Priority Queue

What happens when I leave a game for the first time?

After the game, you will see a pop-up with a LeaverBuster warning. You must follow the prompt on screen in order to queue and play additional games. This does not mean that you've been punished, this is merely a warning. After leaving several games, you'll receive a notification that you've entered the low priority queue.

How long will I remain in the low priority queue?

You will be placed in the low priority queue for 5 games. If you continuously leave, the low priority queue timers increase from 5 minutes per game to 10 minutes per game and then capping out at 20 minutes per game.

What happens when I leave/dodge a game after waiting in the low priority queue?

If you dodge during champion select after waiting in low priority queue, you will have to go through low priority queue all over again even if you already waited through it before.

What happens when someone else leaves/dodges a game after I waited in low priority queue?

If another player dodges during champion select after you waited in long priority queue, you will not have to wait through the low priority queue again. You will instead just wait in the regular queue for another game match to be found.

What happens when I cancel the queue that I was waiting in?

If you cancel either during the low priority queue or the regular queue afterwards, you will have go through the low priority queue again from the start.

Can you take me out of low priority queue?

No. We will not take your account out of low priority queue under any circumstances.

    Additional Information

I crashed and got a leave/MMR loss. Can I get those removed from my account?

Our system does not allow the removal of leaves or the modification of MMR. It was designed in this manner in order to prevent corruption.

I'm a paying user. Shouldn't I get a bit of leniency on this?

No. Every Summoner contributes to their team's victory or defeat on the Fields of Justice. Those who repeatedly leave games or idle during gameplay hurt their team and the overall experience of all Summoners on the field. In order to discourage this behavior, we must take action against those who make it a habit.

It's not my fault. My internet/your servers disconnected me. I had a real-life emergency. I had to get off the computer. The game crashed. Unban me!

We understand that players may be forced to leave from time to time so the system has been designed to keep these situations in mind. After leaving a few games, you will be placed into a low priority queue; as long as you can complete 5 matchmade games without leaving, you will be returned to the normal queue. However, if you continue to leave games, you will remain in the low priority queue.

Note: You are responsible for all activity that occurs on your account. Please review our guide on account security article and make sure your account is safe and secure. If you feel your account was compromised and that activity occurred without your knowing, please re-secure your account.

  • If you're having issues accessing the League of Legends Store, this article will help you troubleshoot them. Issues in the store are primarily caused by the network and default web browser settings. For example, Internet Explorer is a dependency of League of Legends if you are running it on a Windows machine, and so is Safari if you are running it on a Mac, even if you use a different browser normally.

    Common symptoms

You see the following error: You have encountered and error. Please try again later.

You see the following error: Session Expired (with Commando Galio staring into your soul from the background).

You see the error that starts with the following text: There was a problem with your request...

Store appears blank, black or empty.

The Store page has graphical issues and/or appears distorted.

    Item prices appear as ???.

You have enough RP or BE on your account but cannot unlock new content.

Note: If your operating system or network connection requires its own specific settings for the default browser to work, you may want to contact your system administrator before making significant changes.

    Syncing Windows Clock

If your Windows Clock is out of sync with real time, it will not provide our servers with correctly timestamped certificates. This could affect connectivity to the League of Legends servers, store or matches. In order to avoid those issues, follow the solutions shown below:

    Syncing your clock manually

Right-click on your computer's clock and choose Adjust Date/Time.

Select the Internet Time tab, and click the Change Settings button.

At this point you may receive a UAC prompt. After this prompt, click the Update now button to resync.

If the above steps didn't work, please try the following instead:

    Press [Windows Key] + R

    Type cmd

    Press Ok

    Type the following command:

    net start w32time

This will start the time sync service if it is currently not active.

    Press Enter

    Type the following command:

    w32tm /resync

This will resync your clock. If it fails, you may have to manually set your time and date.

    Press Enter

    Change the Internet Security settings

Sometimes the Internet Security Settings are too restrictive and can block the Store. Resetting them to the default value (Medium-high) will prevent them from blocking Store content.

  • You probably know an inappropriate Summoner name when you see it (or think of it). If you've got one, we'll flag it to be renamed. If you see one, report it after your game. If you're not sure whether a name crosses the line, Submit a Ticket below, and we'll check it out. Here's a rough list of what we consider inappropriate:

Summoner names that suggest hate speech, slurs or profanity, either implicitly or explicitly.

Most names that invoke or refer to something in historical, ethical, or political contexts.

Names containing insults, grotesque imagery, and strong vulgarity.

Just because you're not offended by a name, doesn't mean it's not offensive. References, puns, and wordplay are great, but if they're attempts at sneaking some offensive language, we'll flag it. If we change your name and you don't think it was offensive, let us know, and we'll talk.

If we do require you to change your Summoner Name, make sure to choose wisely! Repeated reports will result in a penalty to either your account or your honor, so make sure to pick an appropriate Summoner name.

What is the difference between my Riot Account and my Summoner name?

Your Riot Accountnameis what you use to log into your account, both on the website and in-client. No one is able to view this name except for you, and therefore it is important to keep this private. Your Riot Account name must be globally unique, meaning you're the only one in the world with that name. If you want to learn more about Riot Accounts, check out this article.

Your Summoner Name is what your friends will see in-game. This is the name that you will be known by on screen and in your friends' friends lists. Unlike your Riot Account username, your Summoner Name can be changed whenever you like. This change will not affect your username or the way you log in.

How much does a Summoner Name change cost?

Name changes are available for 1300 RP or 13,900 BE.

Where can I purchase a name change?

You can purchase a name change in the game client by clicking on the Account button (the profile with a gear behind it) at the top right of the Store. Your new name will take effect once you log back into PVP.net and the forums. Please note that any names deemed offensive will be altered by Player Support without refund.

    here

What are the basic rules for Summoner names?

All Summoner names must be appropriate and abide by the Terms of Use. There is a filter that will eliminate most inappropriate names or names that include profanity, but ultimately it is up to you to choose an acceptable name.

Names must be at least 3 characters long and no more than 16 characters long.

No player name can include the word "Riot" in it.

Your name should not contain personally identifying information (like your real name or address). If a name is found to contain this info, it may be subject to change by Riot.

Attempting to impersonate or pretend to be an eSports professional is not acceptable, even if the system allows the name to be selected. If found, these names may be changed.

Can I have a special character in my Summoner name?

Special characters are allowed in some Summoner Names depending on the selected language. If a special character is not utilized in the selected language, it will not be available to be used even if it is on a region that allows it.

Can I change the spacing or capitalization of my Summoner name for free?

Yes! As a one time exception, you can change the spacing and capitalization of your Summoner Name without having to purchase a Summoner Name change. For example, you can change your name from "nancymon" to "nancy mon" or "Nancymon" at no cost.

In order to do this, send us a ticket with the following subject line:

    SUBJECT: Summoner Name Change

What will happen to my friends list?

You will remain on all of your friends' lists under your new Summoner Name. Be sure to let your friends know you've changed your name!

What happens to my name if I don't log in for a long time??

The rest of your account is perfectly safe if you don't log in for a long time (although your League standing will decay), but extended periods of inactivity can flag your Summoner Name. If your Summoner name is flagged for inactivity, another player can claim it if they purchase a Summoner name change. You can learn more about Summoner name inactivity .

I have multiple accounts - can I swap their Summoner Names?

We can swap Summoner Names between accounts manually, but only if you have the required 1300 RP or 13,900 BE in your main account to pay for the transfer. Please note that you can only swap Summoner Names that are on the same server.

If you would like to swap your Summoner name from one of your accounts to another, pleaseSubmit a Ticket below with the subject "Summoner Name Swap" and send us the following information for both of your accounts:

    SUBJECT: Summoner Name Swap

    ACCOUNT ONE

Your Riot Account name (What you log in to the game with)

Your Summoner name (What other players see in game)

Which server you play on (NA, EU West, or EU Nordic & East)

Email used to register the account:

    ACCOUNT TWO

Your Riot Account name (What you log in to the game with)

If I can't chat in-game, won't I be banned for failure to communicate?

Will other players know if I have chat restrictions on my account?

How will I know if I have chat restrictions enabled on my account?

When will my chat restriction be over?

Can chat restricted players get season rewards?

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How does it work?

Accounts that show signs of persistent negative behavior are often first punished with chat restrictions. When this feature is active, you will have a limited number of chat messages you can send while in game. As you continue to play the duration of the match you will unlock additional chat messages that you can send. In order to completely remove Restricted Chat from your account, you will be required to play a specific number of matchmade games.

Will I still be able to see chat messages from other players?

You will still receive chat messages from players on your team. You won't be able to speak in all chat, but you'll be able to see it if you have the option selected.

If I can't chat in-game, won't I be banned for failure to communicate?

Players are never banned for not communicating through chat in-game. In fact, a large portion of games are completed with very few words being said at all. If you feel you need to communicate to your team, then you should use Smart Pings. Smart Pings will allow you to communicate all vital information much more quickly than typing. Smart Ping allows the following commands to be given: On My Way, Enemy Missing (MIA), Be Careful, and Assist Me.

Will other players know if I have chat restrictions on my account?

No, other players will not be made aware of your chat restrictions. It is very likely that if you don't mention it in pre or post game chat and if you use the Smart Ping feature, other players will never even be aware that your chat has been restricted.

How will I know if I have chat restrictions enabled on my account?

Restricted Chat will be placed on your account within a few hours following negative behavior. If Restricted Chat is enabled on your account, you will see a message pop-up when you log into League of Legends. This message will notify you how many games you must play before Restricted Chat is lifted. You can also find your chat restrictions on your reform card.

Every time you finish a matchmade game of League of Legends, you will receive a message notifying you how many games of Restricted Chat you have left.

When will my chat restriction be over?

There is no time limit to chat restrictions. Your chat restrictions will not expire until you have successfully played the number of games required. Only matchmade games count toward your total; that means custom games don't count.

Whenever you finish a matchmade game, you will receive a notification that tells you how many games of Restricted Chat you have left:

Can chat restricted players get season rewards?

Competitive play should reward positive sportsmanship just as much as they reward great play, so the most negative players with chat restrictions at the end of the season will be ineligible to earn ranked end of season rewards such as the loading screen borders or the Victorious champion skin.

  • If you're having issues logging into League of Legends, this article will help you troubleshoot them. If you're getting an error that is related to your username or password, you should consider recovering your account instead. The issue could be caused by your computer r ejecting the security certificates from our servers. Our client relies on a particular browser depending on your client; Internet Explorer for Windows and Safari for Mac. These browsers must be configured regardless of your default browser, so be sure to make all suggested changes within each browser.

If you're using Windows, the Hextech Repair Tool can resolve a few common issues that may prevent you from logging on.

    Common Symptoms

You receive an error on the login screen that is not related to your credentials

Your connection times out during the login process

    Note:

If your operating system or network connection requires its own specific settings for the default browser to work, you may want to contact your system administrator before making significant changes.

Check the Selected Region in the Client

This is a very simple thing to overlook, especially when you are rushing to jump into Summoner's Rift. After clicking on the League of Legends icon (but before hitting Play!), check the region that you are logging into in the top right corner of the window. You have to login into the region where you currently have your account, since any given account can only be active in one region at a time.

Check if the server is up

Before performing any troubleshooting steps, it's worth checking the current status of the League of Legends server that you are trying to connect to. The links below will take you to the Server Status forum for each region:

    North America

    Brazil

    Turkey

    EU West

    EU Nordic & East

    Russia

    Latin America North

    Latin America South

    Oceania

    Japan

    Refund token rules

You can only refund purchases made within the last 90 days.

Refunds will return the same amount and currency you used to make the purchase. For example, if you buy a champion on sale for RP, you'll get the sale price refunded in RP even if it's not on sale anymore.

You'll recoup one refund token each year if you're below the cap of three.

Most unused content can be refunded within 7 days of purchase without using a token. See above for items that are refundable.

Once you use a refund token, it's gone. There are no refund token refund tokens.

    Special content refunds

Some items can't be refunded through the client. You can send us a ticket and we'll do it for you! Here's the list of stuff you'll need us for:

Rune pages: One page per token (unless you bought a bundle)

Summoner name changes: Only refundable if your previous name hasn't been taken!

Summoner icons: Only non-esports icons are refundable

Chromas: Full packs are one token, as are individually-purchased chromas

    FAQ

    I don't like a champion's update, and I want to refund some/all content I own for them.

Sorry, but we're not refunding any items based on champion updates. We try to be open about when we're making significant changes to champions; you can keep an eye on our schedule here.

My account was hacked and someone made a bunch of purchases/used my refunds!

First, make sure you've got sole access to your email account, and change the password. Second, don't worry about your League content. We'll reverse any purchases made during an account compromise, including spent refund tokens.

Can I have more refund tokens?

You'll get one new token each year up to a max of three.

I accidentally purchased something! Do I need to use my refund token?

As long as you haven't used the content, you can refund it yourself without a token as long as it falls within the list of things you can refund. If it can't be refunded through the client, send us a ticket and we'll refund it for you.

We consider content "used" if you've used it in a game (even a custom or bot game). If you're refunding something that counts as unused content, you won't see a warning that you're using one of your refund tokens.

  • Re-downloading and reinstalling League of Legends from the latest setup file may resolve a variety of technical issues. New versions of the setup files are uploaded after every patch, so reinstalling the game from these files will result in a fully updated version of League of Legends. Reinstalling from the most recent version of the setup files ensures that any problems you experience with League of Legends are not caused by out-of-date or corrupted files.

The Hextech Repair Tool can automatically re-patch or reinstall League of Legends for you! You can download or learn more about the repair tool here.

    Windows

    Mac

Below is a walkthrough of the basic process of installing League of Legends on Windows, along with some common pitfalls.

    Uninstall League of Legends

    Open the Start Menu.

    From here, open Control Panel.

    Select "Programs and Features."

Select "League of Legends" from the list.

    Select "Uninstall/Remove."

If you run into problems uninstalling League of Legends, this may indicate a larger problem within Windows. It may be a good idea to run a registry cleaner like CCleaner.

Confirm that no League of Legends files have been left on your hard drive

Navigate to the directory where League of Legends was installed (the C: drive by default).

Delete the old setup files you used to install the game.

    Restart the PC.

    Reinstalling League of Legends

If you have experienced problems reinstalling the game in the past, you may want to consider running a registry cleaner before reinstalling the game. CCleaner is a common registry cleaner that many players have found useful. You may also want to try creating a new Windows administrative account in the Control Panel to install the game.

Download the latest version of League of Legends from these links (or here )

    NA | EUW | EUNE | OCE

Run LeagueofLegends.exe to download updated versions of our setup files. The setup files will be placed in a new League of Legends folder on your desktop by default.

When the setup files finish downloading, the installation process will begin automatically. If possible, install League of Legends to the default C:\ drive.

When the installation process finishes, the game's launcher will open automatically. If you need to open the game manually, please do so by double clicking the League of Legends desktop shortcut, or by running LeagueClient.exe in the directory to which you installed League of Legends.

    Reset your configuration folder

After reinstalling, you'll still have all your old in-game settings. If settings were a problem for you, you may want to reset your configuration entirely. This will clear any in-game or client settings you've selected and set your settings to default, so make sure that's what you want. Here's how to do it:

Launch League of Legends and log into your account

Minimize the client and go to your League of Legends install folder

The default install location is "C:\Riot Games\League of Legends"

    Delete the Config folder

Go back to your League client and launch a custom game. This will generate a new config folder

Reinstalling League of Legends on Mac

Below is a walkthrough of the basic process of installing League of Legends, along with common mistakes encountered when trying to install the game on a Mac.

    Uninstallation

Open your "Applications" folder (press the command key+Shift+G, and paste in: /Applications/).

Drag League of Legends from the Applications folder to the Trash Can on the dock.

Next, hit command key+Shift+C, and go to Macintosh HD/Users/Shared/Riot Games, and drag that folder into your Trash Can as well.

On the top bar, click "Finder" and select "Empty Trash...", then confirm emptying the trash. At this point, you've uninstalled League of Legends and are ready for a fresh install.

    Installing League of Legends

After downloading the installer from our website, locate the .dmg file in your Downloads folder.

(In this example, we've downloaded the NA Mac Client)

    http://www.apple.com/support/

Double click on the .dmg and you will see the following window appear

Drag and drop League of Legends.app to the Applications folder. Do

    not

run League of Legends.app from this window.

    Close the .dmg window

Navigate to your Applications folder, and then run League of Legends (Note: Do not drag and drop League of Legends to the Dashboard). The patcher will appear.

    Open your Applications folder

    Find League of Legends

Hold down "Control" and click on the League icon

Select "Show Package Contents" in the popup menu

Navigate through these folders: "Contents" > "LOL"

    Delete the entire "Config" folder

Go back to your League client and launch a custom game. This will generate a new config folder

    Common Mistakes

Players often run League of Legends.app from the window that appears when first mounting the .dmg.

Failing to drag and drop League of Legends.app to the Applications folder will result in the following error:

Moving League of Legends.app to the Applications folder prior to launching the game will prevent this error.

    A note on Mac's Case-Sensitive File System

In some cases, if you download the game from https://signup.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/signup/redownload you will see the following error:

This happens due to an issue with the Mac’s Case-Sensitive File system. In order for the game to work, you will need to install it on a drive or partition that has a non-case-sensitive file system.

Unfortunately, Riot does not support installations on case-sensitive file systems at this time. There may be a solution available for this issue from Apple support at some point in the future. Here is a link to their support page:

  • Don’t let their adorable appearances deceive you. Those little legends are ready to compete on the big stage. TFT has loads of depth, so we want to make sure you feel like mastering the game is a worthwhile adventure.

While there will be some similarities to Summoner’s Rift, we really wanted to highlight the unique style that TFT excels at. Think more social, a bit less demanding, and with a healthy dose of chance thrown in. You’ll still have the same tiers and divisions, and you’ll gain or lose LP based on how well you did.

Even with some key differences, we want to make sure that your Ranked TFT matches are just as satisfying as your time in Summoner’s Rift, so hop on down the Molediver hole, and master that Teamfight knowledge!

    Basics

What are the requirements for TFT Ranked?

None at this time! You can play Ranked right off the bat at Level 1.

    What Tiers are available?

Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond, as well as Master, Grandmaster and Challenger (just like LoL!).

Can I play Ranked in a party with friends?

Yes, but there are some restrictions! Friendship is power, but we don’t want it to be OVERpowered.

Players can only queue together in parties of 3!

Do TFT ranked games count towards split points?

Nope. TFT does not affect split points

    TFT Ranked Rewards

Will there be rewards? What are they?!

Absolutely! We’re going to give out some super awesome rewards. The only problem is...we haven’t fully decided what they are yet! We DO know that, for Season One, you'll be getting a Pengu emote based on your end rank. But don't worry, once we announce the rest of the rewards, they will be applied retroactively.

What tier do I have to be to qualify for rewards?

The emotes will be added for Gold and above. For the rest, we're still working out the details. We want the rewards to accurately represent all your hard work!

What can affect my reward eligibility?

We know we don’t need to tell you this, but cheating is an absolute no-go. As such, if you receive cheating-based punishments...you guessed it! No rewards!

    How Transfers Affect Ranked

What happens to my rank when I transfer?

Your MMR will transfer over, but you’ve gotta keep this in mind: because MMR isn’t the same across all servers, the skill levels of the players in the new server might be different from the one you were previously on.

You will need to play your 5 placement games every time you transfer your account - even if it’s to a server you’ve placed in previously!

Keep in mind that the highest you can place on a new server is Iron II.

What happens to my rewards when I transfer?

Once your ranked rewards have been added to your inventory, they will transfer with you.

    Ranked Seasons

How long will TFT Ranked seasons last?

Teamfight Tactics is all about discovery. A single match can change drastically from one turn to the next, and we want Ranked seasons to reflect that. To honor this, we’re going to be open to making bigger changes between seasons than we are for Summoner’s Rift.

The goal right now is to start up a new season of TFT every few months, so there could be three to four seasons of TFT every year. Each season will be tied to a set, and sets won't span across multiple seasons.

TFT is our baby, so we’ve gotta nurture it. That means these times are totally subject to change! We want what’s best for TFT and you!

    Splits and Ranked Queue

What do I need to know about queuing up with friends (party)?

Yay! More friendship! But some of the same rules still apply. Remember those above rules? Three is the magic number here, since friends can only queue up together as a party of 3!

Here's a look at those queue limitations (and in full color, no less):

    Placements, Promotions, and Series

    Wondering about Placements?

Each ranked season, you will be starting your TFT lifr over again by learning a brand new set. Because of this, we do a soft reset of your MMR. A soft reset means that your MMR is pulled a bit closer to the median.

Once you play your first TFT ranked game, you’ll be provisionally ranked in Iron II. You’llhave a total of 5 placement matches. After the 5th match you will place into a League.

Provisional matches function the same way as LoL Ranked, with accelerated LP values and no LP Loss, so if you’re an old hat at League, this should be a sinch to master.

Psst. By the way, you can gain up to 100 LP per provisional match!

    Curious about Promotions and Series?

There are no promo series in TFT. Once you hit 100 LP you will automatically promote to the next division with the leftover LP. (Example - An Iron II 90 LP player wins a game and gains 30 LP will promote to Iron I 20 LP.)

Players can no longer lose LP when finishing in 4th or higher! On the flip side, players can no longer gain LP when finishing 5th or lower.

    Ranked Borders

TFT Borders should not show up in SR modes, including ARAM, and vice-versa. This means you will not see Summoner's Rift/Flex ranks in TFT ranked, and it remains true going both ways.

    Demotions and Decay

Everything you (probably) ever wanted to know about Decay:

Decay only applies to Diamond and above.

In Diamond, you lose 50 LP after 30 days of inactivity, with -50 LP every seven days after that.

In Master and above, you bank up to 10 games, with 1 banked game getting removed each day. Watch out! You lose 250 LP every day if you don’t have a banked game to lose.

Heads up! There’s no decay in Provisional matches! Neat.

    Let's tackle Demotions:

You can only demote if you lose while at 0 LP.

Because there aren’t any promo series, there’s also no game-based Demotion Shielding in TFT. (i.e. there won’t be any "you get 3 games of demotion protection when you first promote").

Demoting down to a lower division or tier happens when your MMR is too low for your current ranking, and you are at 0 LP.

  • A box with the message "Attempting to Reconnect" often pops up during games with severely disrupted connections. While this message is displayed, the game is trying to "catch up" on missing data. You may see your champion freeze in place or keep moving while everything else is frozen.

Check the server status page to make sure the problem isn't server-wide; you can also check with your ISP to see if there are general network issues in your area. After that, you'll need to run through your connection setup to pinpoint the problem. Test your connection in a custom game to make sure you can connect without incurring a LeaverBuster penalty.

Another way to test the connection without risking a LeaverBuster penalty is the Lag Report (Beta), a great resource for measuring your ISP connection to our game servers. It's a way to find your problems before your games, so give it a try:

    For North American players

    For EU-West players

    For EU-Nordic East players

    Coming soon for Oceanic players

    Switch to a wired connection

If you're using wi-fi, switching to a LAN cable is the best way to improve your connection. You'll see reduced packet loss and smoother play.

    Close connection-heavy programs

Video and music streaming and many voice chat programs can increase the load on your connection. This can be even worse if you share a network with others. Try closing these programs before playing League.

    Temporarily disable firewalls

If you've installed a third-party firewall, you'll need to disable it manually. To disable the Windows firewall, follow these steps:

    Click on Start

    Click on Control Panel

    Click on System and Security

    Click on Windows Firewall

Click on "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" (You might need to provide the Administrator password here)

Under each network location, select the "Turn off Windows Firewall" option

    Change your DNS settings

Setting your DNS to a public domain may help if you're getting stuck getting into game. You can use the Hextech Repair Tool to do this--just check the "Automatically Assign" box.

    Router issues

Rarely, your router may be a source of issues.

Try a reboot-unplug your router, wait fifteen seconds, then plug it back in.

    Enable QoS on your router

As a last-ditch effort, you can create a port forward on your router to make sure League traffic isn't blocked. This should happen automatically, but you can use this site to find your router and forward them manually.

    None of these steps worked!

Still having issues? Send us a ticket and we'll get to the bottom of it. It will help if you first use the Hextech Repair Tool to gather logs and attach the file to the ticket.

  • The Disciplinary System

Unacceptable Behaviors that may be acted on by our disciplinary systems

Behaviors that would not be acted on by our disciplinary systems:

    Reporting Guidelines

    Pro tips

    Things to avoid

If you encounter offensive, negative, or disruptive experiences within League of Legends then you can report the offending player at the end of the match. Once a report is made our disciplinary systems will review the game within minutes to determine whether a penalty will be placed. Sometimes (but not always) you will be notified when a player you reported is penalized. The lack of a notification does not mean there was no penalty.

    The Disciplinary System

The following behaviors are unacceptable and may be acted on by our disciplinary systems:

Insulting, harassing, or offensive language directed at other players.

Any kind of hate speech such as homophobia, sexism, racism, and ableism.

Intentionally ruining the game for other players with in game actions such as griefing, feeding, or purposely playing in a way to make it harder for the rest of the team.

Leaving or going AFK at any point during the match being played.

Unnecessarily disruptive language or behavior that derails the match for other players.

    Inappropriate Summoner Names.

The following are behaviors that would not be acted on by our disciplinary systems:

Playing poorly but still trying to win.

Strong language that does not insult or demean other people.

Choosing unusual champions, building unusual items, or experimenting with new ideas that don’t match the current “meta”.

    Reporting Guidelines

    Pro tips:

Make sure your report is tailored for the behavior you saw. It may be tempting to select every report category available but this is unnecessary. It only takes one report to trigger a review by our system selecting more than one category will do nothing to make your report more valuable.

When possible, leave a concise and clear comment about the behavior you observed. For example, if the player decided to throw the game by rushing down middle lane after their first death a good comment would be: “Died at 5 minutes to a gank and then proceeded to run down mid for the rest of the match”.

    Things to avoid

Do not threaten or repeatedly tell a player you will report them. Doing so can encourage players who are already negative to continue their behavior. Whether they know they are being reported or not has no bearing to whether the system will act on them. But most importantly, repeatedly threatening or arguing with a negative player can end up derailing the game for everyone else and then open yourself up to reports and possible disciplinary action as well. Avoid negative thoughts and useless chatting with poor performing teammates! Focus on victory by muting the offending player and then reporting them at the end of the game.

Do not ask other players in the match to report the offending player. It only takes one report for our systems to review a game. Additional reports will not do anything for the offending player; however as mentioned above, it could open yourself up to a report of your own; especially if you are derailing the match by constantly demanding reports of other players.

Negative behavior is unacceptable regardless of the circumstances or who started it. It can be tempting to respond to negative players with negativity of your own. Our systems do not care who started the behavior and will treat each reported player based off the merits of their own case. The only way to handle these types of players is to mute them and continue playing the game followed by giving them a report at the end of the match.

  • There are a few major reasons your mobile payment may not go through, or why you may have received only some of the RP you intended to purchase.

    Transaction expired

If you don't respond to each confirmation message in the purchase process, the purchase will expire. In order to make a purchase, you'll need to initiate a new transaction and respond to each message.

    Insufficient funds

If your mobile account has a monthly spending limit and the RP purchase would put you over it, the transaction will fail. It's also possible your account doesn't have enough money to cover the cost of the entire transaction.

    Payment not delivered

Disruptions in your network may prevent one or more messages from sending. In this case, the entire mobile transaction will fail. Make sure you're in an area where you can send and receive texts, and that there are no outages in your area.

    Partially completed mobile payments

Mobile payments can occur across several purchase confirmation messages. If you begin a purchase and don't confirm each message, you will be charged for a partial amount of the payment without receiving any Riot Points.

If you've been partially charged, send us a ticket and we'll reward you the appropriate amount of RP. To avoid this issue in the future, make sure you're responding to each confirmation message during your purchase.

Why can't I send a gift to my friend?

The following factors determine whether you can send or receive gifts:

The player receiving a gift needs to have been on your buddy list for at least one day.

The player sending or receiving a gift cannot be banned or suspended (this includes Instant Feedback System).

There are also specific rules for different types of gifting:

CONTENT GIFTING (Skins, Champions, Rune Pages)

To send a gift, you must be at least level 10.

You can only send up to 10 gifts every 24 hours.

You can only receive up to 10 gifts every 24 hours.

    RP GIFTING

To send RP, you must be at least level 15

You can only send up to 5 RP gifts every 24 hours

You can only receive up to 5 RP gifts every 24 hours

Why can't I gift the RP or content I already have?

The system will not allow you to gift RP or content that you already own. We are sorry for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of this.

    What can I gift?

You can send your friends: champions, skins, ward skins, RP, summoner icons, rune pages, hextech keys, hextech chests, and gifting-specific event loot.

I accidentally removed my friend from my list. How do I send a gift now?

You will have to re-add your friend to your list and wait at least one day until they are eligible for a gift.

Why can't I use my pre-paid RP card in the Gifting Center?

Only certain payment methods are available through the Gifting Center. Simply send your friend the card PIN so they can redeem it through the game client.

How do I reverse the gift that I sent?

Gifts cannot be reversed. Please be sure to double check before sending a gift to ensure the correct summoner is receiving the intended content.

I was hacked and stuff was gifted everywhere! What do I do?

Please send a ticket to us directly, and a specialist will be more than happy to investigate for you.

    How to Send Gifts

There are now two ways to send gifts through the League Client!

The first way is the standard way (through the store):

Go to the store and click the gift box in the top right corner

Choose the friend from your list you would like to send this gift to

Select the type of gift (champion, skin, RP) you would like to send to your friend

Select the content you would like to gift

Type in a personal message and click the "Send Gift" button

The NEW and IMPROVED way to send gifts is through the Social Panel in the League of Legends Client!

Step 1 is to right clicking on the friend you want to gift through the Social Panel in the League Client. (If this action is grayed out, it means the player you are trying to gift is not eligible to receive gifts from you or you are not eligible to send gifts. For a full list of gifting requirements, check out the top of this article!)

On the list of actions, click on 'Give Gift' text where you are taken directly to the second step in the Gifting Center flow where you can choose the gift you want to gift this player.

From here you can continue the same Gifting Center flow as you would in the old method of gifting!

    Happy Gifting!

  • An overlay is an application which puts some of its interface on top of other applications. Plenty of voice chat and graphics applications have overlays to improve your experience with games. Sometimes they do the opposite of that, eating up bandwidth or introducing compatibility problems with certain programs. In this case, you'll need to disable them. Programs with overlays often auto-enable their overlay every time there's an update. If you keep running into performance issues with every update, you'll need to keep disabling them.

Here are a few super-common overlays and how to disable them.

    AMD Radeon ReLive

    Discord

    Nvidia Shadowplay/Share

    Overwolf

    Razer Synapse Stats

    Razer Cortex Gamecaster

    Xbox Game DVR

    Twitch

    Plays TV

    AMD Radeon ReLive

AMD Radeon is a dashboard which contains many features including Radeon video drivers, game setting optimization, and automatic updates. The AMD Radeon Overlay can't be completely disabled, but most issues stem from ReLive, their capture and streaming feature. Here's how to disable it:

  • Riot's Stance

No software should interfere directly with the in-game player experience, from when you press “Play” to the end-of-game screen.

Competitive games work because each player is afforded the same amount of information about the game and other players. Third-party applications are programs or files that aren’t part of League of Legends. Applications we take issue with are those which impede the competitive nature of League of Legends.

We don’t like applications that provide measurable player advantage. We’d like to set fair expectations by calling out some features that definitely aren’t okay. Some examples of measurable player advantage:

Exposing information that’s intentionally obfuscated (cooldowns or timers)

Taking actions on your behalf (botting or scripting)

Drawing conclusions for you (predicting enemy positions)

Altering your field of intelligence (zoomhacks or global ult alerts)

    Custom Champion Models and Artwork

For now, custom models and artwork sit firmly in the “use-at-your-own-risk” category, but we’re keeping an eye on them. We can’t optimize for assets we don’t develop, and if they do become a concern for any reason in the future (ie. they provide measurable player advantage), we’ll take action based on the stance we just laid out.

Gray areas aside, there are definitely applications which are just not okay, and while the number of players in this space are very low (think a fraction of a percentage), we remain vigilant and hand out punishments to those who show patterns of consistent abuse.

We reserve the right to take action against applications that allow the use of our assets for free (often referred to as skin hacks).

    Detection

We want to share the thinking behind our detection process and the care we take in maintaining accuracy. While we can’t reveal the specifics, we can say with confidence that we’re looking at the right data and maintain a strong commitment to accuracy.

First, we look at each individual’s playstyle and performance history, and examine reports that come in through the in-game reporting system. Suspicious accounts are then queued up for review and, if found guilty, punished.

    Punishments

Suspensions for the use of third-party applications can vary in length depending on the severity of the offense, up to a permanent suspension for consistent, blatant use. If these applications were used to gain rating in ranked, we may also remove the account’s ranked rewards for the season.

    Guideline for using Third-Party Applications

Some third-party applications offer multiple services, some of which may fall within acceptable territory. If that application offers any unauthorized services, using it at all will still result in the loss of your account.

Because there are so many third parties working on League applications, we can’t continually audit and approve applications that may be safe to use. That’s why we offer the guideline above: if it directly impacts gameplay in any way, it’s not acceptable. If you have any concern that an application might fall under this umbrella, better to be safe and not use it.

  • Hey. If your account has already been compromised, send us a ticket, talk to one of us to get it back, and then come right back here and follow these steps.

tl;dr, do these things to be secure:

    Use a password manager

    Choose a secure password

    Protect your email account

    Log off in shared spaces

    Don't share your League account

Don't get baited by phishing attempts

Your League account is valuable. It represents hours of investment, possible monetary investment, and for better or worse, some hefty emotional investment. With value comes risk: people want that stuff.

So, how do you do that? It just takes a little effort. To get you started, we've put together a few steps and precautions to take. Go down the list and check them off. Once you're done, you'll be more secure. Or, your account will be.

    Use a password manager

There's an entire science dedicated to information security. But us? We only need to know three things:

A password's strength is roughly equal to its length and randomness

Dictionary words are bad, randomness is good

You should be using a password manager

Password managers take care of creating secure passwords for most of your accounts. There are several different reputable password managers that work in different ways. Here are a few: LastPass, KeePass, and 1Password. Look into them, download one, and then choose a secure password for it. It's a bit of work up front, but absolutely worth it in the long run.

    Choose a secure password

If you are choosing a password, this is the best guideline we can offer: Choose a few unrelated, uncommon words that aren't in the dictionary. String them together. That's your password. Check out this comic if you need help remembering (please do not use the password in the comic).

    Protect your email account

Your email address is your lifeline to everything. So many sites, games, and apps will reset your password without question as long as you have access to the associated email. Most email providers have their own multi-factor authentication, so take the proper precautions with them. Here's Google's security settings, since you probably have a gmail account.

    Log off in shared spaces

If you play at a friend's house or at a PC cafe, log off. Restart the computer before you end your session. If you get up for just a second to microwave a pop tart, log off. Seriously. We get so many tickets about this.

    Don't share your League account

There aren't a ton of good reasons to share your account. If you do it, we're a lot less likely to be able to successfully recover your account in the event of a compromise. Make sure you're the only one with access to your League account and your verified email. If you've shared in the past, it's fine, whatever, just make sure you've since changed your password.

Don't get baited by phishing attempts

If anyone, ever, asks for your account information, do not give it to them. Riot can already access your account. If we ever need to do anything to your account, we can do it already without asking for your password. These addresses are trusted Riot addresses. If you're contacted from any other domains, it's very likely that it's not from us. Be careful!

  • When you are permabanned from League of Legends, you are no longer allowed to play League of Legends using this account.

    At this point, you have:

Been given your chat logs that resulted in the ban

Been banned previously for poor behaviour

Are aware that by continuing this behaviour, you were at risk of being permabanned

Remember that you are fully responsible for all activity made on your account, and if suspensions or bans are incurred we will not be able to modify them. If you feel that your account may have been compromised, please see the following Knowledge Base article for more information and instructions to help recover your account: Account Recovery Guide.

    WHY DID I GET PERMABANNED?

You got permabanned because you continued your disruptive behavior. Usually by the time you have reached being permabanned, you have already been banned before. During each of these bans, you have been given your chat logs or other kinds of evidence that have led to the bans to help you learn and improve your own actions.

The other reality is that the behavior displayed was so negative or disruptive that it breached the Summoner's Code or Terms of Use. Such behavior can be severe enough to bypass all other warnings and result in the immediate banning of your account.

I DON’T DESERVE THE BAN! ANOTHER PLAYER DESERVES IT.

We can not discuss other players’ actions with you, but you can always report them at the end of a game and mute them when in-game. Regardless of how others act, there is no excuse for raging back or responding to people trying tilt you. You are the only one responsible for your actions and your words.

WHAT I SAID IN GAME DIDN’T DESERVE A BAN.

We work with the overall community and within our own company guidelines to identify what disruptive behavior is and what the consequences for those behaviors should be. Again, this is either not the first time you have been told your actions were inappropriate, or your actions were severe enough to warrant an immediate ban. We understand that it can be difficult to know where the line is, which is why we provide chat logs, and we have a few tiers in the ban process in order to allow for you to learn and grow.

We have detected some suspicious activity that was occurring on your account. As a result, we have banned your account to restrict further access to your account as we investigate the situation. Please note that we do take security extremely seriously, and we want to proactively limit the damage and amount of players that may be affected as a result. The reasons for this can range anywhere from a potentially compromised account to suspected account selling.

What can I do to prevent these suspensions?

Please keep your account as safe as possible. Do not share your password to anyone, including Rioters; we will never ask you for your password. Please keep in mind that we are only able to assist the original account owner of any given account. Do not sell, purchase, share, trade, or gift your account in any way, as this breach of our Terms of Use will disallow us to further assist you.

Additionally, avoid clicking on any potential phishing links or websites that advertise free skins, RP, and accounts. If you believe that you have clicked a link to a phishing link, perform a full virus scan on your system and change your password immediately.

  • Trusted devices let you skip the two-factor part of logging in. If you try to access your Riot account on something that you haven't designated as a trusted device, you'll have to check your email for a code to input before you can log in. This gives you all the convenience of a normal login with the added security of two-factor authentication.

Checking "Add this to my trusted devices" upon login will prevent future verification requirements on that device. Here's what it looks like:

    let us know

    Managing trusted devices

Visit your account settings to clear all trusted devices on your account. Future logins from all devices will require a 2FA code, but you'll be able to trust them again as you log in. This won't log you out of any logged-in devices.

    Unfamiliar trusted devices

You'll get an email when a new device is flagged as a trusted device. If you didn't add it, or if you don't recognize the device information, clear your trusted devices immediately. If you use that password elsewhere, reset them all.

You can check out this article for tips on keeping your account safe. If it's already been compromised, and we'll help you get it back.

    How we recognize trusted devices

When you log in, we check your cookies to see which device you're using. Trusting a device lets us store those cookies so we know it's the same next time. These cookies don't contain any personally-identifying information, just enough to make logging in a little more convenient.

How do I request to deactivate/disable my account?

    Account Deletion

How long does it take to delete an account?

    Account deletions and data requests

Will I be able to use the username, Summoner name, or email address again after my account is deleted?

I don't want to delete my account. Can I swap Summoner names between accounts?

How do I request to get my account deleted?

What if I cannot provide all the necessary information?

    Account Deactivation

What is the difference between account deletion and account deactivation?

Account deletions will permanently delete all personal information associated with your account. You'll never be able to access the account again, and once it's done, there's no bringing it back.

Account deactivation will restrict access to your account, but all of your account's data will be untouched. No one will be able to log into the account while it is deactivated and your information will remain on our database. This process is reversible at any time upon request. Please note that account deactivation will NOT prevent your ranking from decaying.

How do I request to deactivate/disable my account?

Before you request for an account deactivation, please note that it's fine to just leave your account active even if you do not plan on using it. Your account will not be deleted or otherwise harmed by remaining enabled.

Please submit a ticket to Player Support with the following information:

    TICKET SUBJECT: Account Deactivation

Account Name (The Name you log in to the LoL Client with):

Summoner Name (The name your friends see in-game):

    The server you play on:

    Creation date of the account:

Location that you registered the account from (City, Country):

The email address used to originally register your account:

We recommend that you delete any payment information from your account before we deactivate it.

    Account Deletion

How long does it take to delete an account?

The deletion process starts 30 days after the request has been received. You will not be able to access your account during this time. Once we start the account deletion process, it is impossible to recover accounts, so please be completely sure you want to delete your account before proceeding.

If you change your mind after confirming your deletion request, respond to the ticket as quickly as possible. If you don't let us know at least five days in advance of the deletion start date, we might not be able to save your account.

If you'd like to make a data request for your account, do so before deleting it. These will need to be done in separate tickets.

    Account deletions and data requests

If you'd like to make a data request for your account, make sure to do it before deleting it. These will need to be done in separate tickets.

Will I be able to use the username, Summoner name, or email address again after my account is deleted?

Everything but your username will be available 30 days after your account deletion is confirmed. If your username overlaps with a username on any other region, it will continue to be unavailable.

I don't want to delete my account. Can I swap Summoner names between accounts?

We can swap Summoner names between accounts manually, but only if you are the original owner of both accounts. This process will cost the same amount as a Summoner name change (1300 RP/13900 BE). Please note that you can only swap Summoner names that are on the same server.

If you would like to swap your Summoner name from one of your accounts to another, please submit a ticket with the following information for both of your accounts:

    TICKET SUBJECT: Summoner Name Swap

Account Name (The name you log in to the LoL client with):

Summoner Name (The name your friends see in-game):

    The server you play on:

Original email address used to register the account:

Location that you registered the account from (City, Country):

Have you purchased RP on this account? If yes, please list the payment methods used to purchase RP:

What if I cannot provide all of the necessary information?
