Executive Bio

Mr. Robert L. Waltrip, also known as Bob, is the Founder of Service Corporation International (SCI) and Heritage Service Corporation. Mr. Waltrip served as the Chief Executive Officer of Service Corporation International until February 2005 and Heritage Service Corporation until 2005. He took Service Corporation International public in 1969 and has provided leadership to it for over 40 years. He is a licensed funeral Director. He began buying additional funeral homes in the 1960s, achieving cost efficiencies by pooling their resources. At the end of 2003, the network he began had grown to include more than 2,800 funeral service locations, cemeteries and crematoria in eight countries. He grew up in his family's funeral business and assumed management of in the 1950s. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of SCI Management Corporation and Heritage Service Corporation. He serves as Chairman of the Board at SCI Funeral & Cemetery Purchasing Cooperative, Inc. He served as an Executive Chairman of Service Corporation International until January 1, 2016 and has been its Chairman Emeritus since January 1, 2016, has also been its Director since 1962. He has been a Director of Heritage Service Corporation since 1962. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston.
