If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at SparkFun Electronics?

Well first off, anyone can make changes in company culture by getting involved in the company and setting a good example. We have a Culture League & a Diversity group open to employees to help get involved. Anyone can host a Lunch & Learn. Culture isn't defined by one person, but by a group so I'd say 1 - Get Involved. 2 - Speak to your team and others in the company about your thoughts to help define team and company culture. Both of which are things I started doing in order to make changes I wanted to see.
While we strive to be transparent with each other there can still be silos. More effort to communicate changes that may affect other departments would be nice.
What benefits does SparkFun Electronics provide?
Health, dental, vision, 401k, FSA, HSA, sick time, vacation time (based on how long you have been there), a floating holiday every year, and a paid volunteer day every year. But we also get to bring out dogs to work. The environment is very laid back. Tee shirts and jeans are normal. The environment is also fun. There are all company events. Beer is kept in the breakroom and you are allowed up to 2 beers per day within 2 hours of the end of your shift.
Unlimited PTO. 401k matching up to 5% (4 year vesting period). Health, dental, & vision insurance options. Company events (holiday party, picnic, summer bbqs) and frequent Lunch & Learns. Employee discount on products. Lots of doggies in the office to love on. Flexible hours depending on your manager and role.

How does SparkFun Electronics measure success and growth in the Customer Support department?
Through the quality of our support offered. Emails, chats, and phone calls are reviewed and we are given constructive criticism when needed. If the call is good, then we are commended and left at that.
What should I wear for an interview at SparkFun Electronics?
A nice shirt and nice looking jeans/pants (no holes). You could dress up to business casual if you'd like, but the standard office dress is really casual.
What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at SparkFun Electronics?
This would be position specific. Otherwise, prepare for general behavioral style questions.

The hiring manager and the team I would work with daily. How long really depends on how busy the hiring manager & team are - I've seen us respond to candidates with the next step within a few days or a couple weeks.
Does SparkFun Electronics have any remote positions?
Yes, but only for employees that worked here and then needed to move out of state. It is very rare.
How's the vacation policy at SparkFun Electronics?
Salaried employees have "unlimited" vacation which is roughly 3 weeks + sick time. You work with your manager for vacation. Hourly employees accrue PTO and have sick days.

I love the flexibility, relaxed workplace, and the openness. Most companies I've worked for don't share financials and how well they are doing to their employees, but SparkFun does.
