    No

  • Depends on the owner. Checking references and random drug screens are standard in the majority of cases to my knowledge, but there's no set requirement and it varies state by state according to local laws.

  • The UPS Store is a authorized 3rd party that works WITH UPS. They are not part of UPS. He would just be working at the store, so no deliveries. He could be a packer! But that all depends on The UPS Store in question.

  • Because they're franchised, it's kind of a dead-end job. If you're not the manager you can be the manager. Outside the store level there are opportunities for advancement, though.

  • It's customer service. I personally hate buzz phrases like "soft skills," as if being a nice person is something we have to relearn because our society is that individualistic. Just remember to always consider the customer's point of view. put yourself in their shoes. if something goes wrong, always apologize regardless if it's your fault. Always be honest and transparent when dealing with customers. Be patient; never let them see you raise your voice. Ask about customers' lives and families like you would your friends. Be neighborly, develop relationships and treat customers like long-distance friends. When they come in after a couple weeks being gone, ask how things have been. Remember their names so you can stop calling people "sir" and "maam" all the time. Sales is about building relationships, friendships even. The easier you can seem like or be a friend to everyone who walks through that door the better it will be for everyone.

  • I was hired on the spot. It depends on the store; I think in most stores the owners do the hiring directly and if they like you they could hire you right there and then.

Assigned dress codes are posted in each of the stores. They give you a shirt, you have to wear that, name tag on the right. Slacks or dress pants with a belt, no jeans, no skirts. Makeup/jewelry/weird hair they seem to be fine with, but I personally wouldn't wear hoop earrings or something like that because with all the boxes you'll be carrying, packaging, etc, they might be a safety hazard.

  • There's a TON of opportunity. Corporate leadership just doesn't seem to see it. They should stop worrying about protecting market share and just go for it on a couple things.

  • Be smart about it. Business casual was the dress code I stuck with and I got the job. Remember that in any job interview you are making a first impression and first impressions last.

  • Because it's franchised, it varies by store. In a case where an employee needs to take leave due to the arrival of a child, I would speak to the owner of the store directly. There is no set policy in place at the store level. The other option would be to contact the UPS Store corporate office in San Diego, speak to human resources, and see if anything could be made available.
