What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining NetApp?
The reality of the bottom line and how much speculation there was about the future (real $$ verse futures). That they also are not looking for innovative change but people to turn the crank of existing things.

How's the work life balance at NetApp?
It's constantly busy, but no one expects you to be online all the time. However, many people, including me, do a bit of work on the weekends to catch up.
Mostly driven by the individual. If your work is getting done on schedule there is no pressure. There are some who love to work all the time and they do, there are others that get their work done and get out of the office asap. Mid day breaks to hike, bike or run are common.
What part of NetApp's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
NetApp is riding the wave of the stock market for the most part. Some new business management has trimmed the fat which has greatly improved the bottom line. The rest around innovation is mostly stagnated or following market direction. There is no disruptive technology being innovated.
Flash is growing the fastest, cloud products are ramping up, and OCI are leading the way. Object storage is not gaining much traction yet
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at NetApp?
Get rid of the inexperienced first line management. Find an innovative technical leader/leaders. Those already there that have decades of practical experience I would put them in leadership and decision making roles rather than marginalizing their experience as not relevant or completely ignored.

What's the interview process like at NetApp?
Initial phone interview with two people. If successful then may lead to an onsight interview with multiple panels of potential peers. Turn around for an answer is quick, usually in a few days if not sooner.
1)Initial call with internal recruiter. 2)initial call with hiring manager 3)2-4 onsite 30 minute interviews with perspective pears and other management 4) possible second round of onsite interviews 5) offer letter or rejection
What is most positive about the culture and environment at NetApp?
The freedom to work and learn any way you see fit as long as your results are effective

Does NetApp have a volunteer program?
Yes, NetApp gives each employee 40 hours a year to volunteer and coordinates various volunteer opportunities for employees or you can volunteer on your own.
What's the office vibe like at NetApp?
No one wants to be there.
What do people at NetApp think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
There is no vision, a lot of rhetoric. However, he is a businessman not an innovator so that assessment may not be completely fair.
How does NetApp make decisions around promotions?
Totally unknown to me.
How's the vacation policy at NetApp?
Standard based on years of service. Not great but about "normal". There have been mandatory vacation days around holidays (or unpaid time off, you choose).
How's the work pace at NetApp?
The pace is repetitive. They would rather repeat the same thing over and over in the hopes that random probability will fall in their favor rather than listen to the experience they have hired.
What are the team outings like at NetApp?
What team outings? We went bowling once.
How secure do you feel at your job at NetApp?
Fairly secure. My role is really hard to hire for due to unique skills.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at NetApp?
Enough people are quitting they need to backfill so chances are already improving.
How do you feel about going to work at NetApp everyday?
I do not enjoy the feeling. I do enjoy my team but we all feel about the same about the way things are going.
What's the best part of your job at NetApp?
I got a good retention bonus when we were acquired by NetApp.
What's the office layout like at NetApp?
Open office. It gets loud sometimes. Must buy your noise-canceling headphones. There is a large "kitchen" and good patios spaces.
How much diversity is there among employees at NetApp?
Meh... it is okay. I can't think of an African American that works there in my business unit (of about 400 people) but I certainly don't know everyone. Seems about as diverse as other tech businesses, on the young and inexperienced side for a large part though.
What unique perks and benefits does NetApp provide?
I can't think of anything that I didn't get at my previous employer.
How's the morale at NetApp?
Netapp Solidfire, moral is extremely low in some groups. People are dropping like flies, some can get out fast enough.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at NetApp?
It was a bit of a turn-off. I almost didn't accept the offer because of the interview process.
