Opportunity to have impact. We are relatively small, and every line of code written by engineers counts.
sense of ownership, the alignment between Product, UX, and Engineering, people acting with empathy and treating each other with respect.
we are trying to compete for top engineering talent in Seattle and are not willing to pay for it. most of my team could get $100-150K more at other local companies, and we've collected multiple data point to prove this.
start with the customer rather than metrics. we are trying to mold our customers' behavior into our business model instead of changing the business model to meet customer needs. I am disenchanted by our direction that over-indexes on price and under-indexes on a delightful experience/innovation
AMP (Autonomy, Mastery, Purpose) - we are missing all 3. A - teams are held accountable for delivery rather than outcomes. M - we can't hire great engineers (comp) who would raise the bar for others. P - we are a site for cheap stuff, not a #1 online destination for Moms.
