I've been here five years in the same position. My various managers have held me back from advancing as I want to. I feel stuck, and it's frustrating. Also, there have been three sets of layoffs in my five years, so I never feel secure or that the company knows where it's going.

Zulily does not take good care of it's mid level leaders. They are slow to move top talent, and do not take good care of them. I feel like I pour my life blood into this company, am told I am on a promotion path and valued by senior executives in the company, and left waiting.

I love my direct leadership. I am learning a lot about how to operate at scale, and have clear goals to get to the next level, but dont know if that will be at Zu. Working with HR is a consistent headwind, and rarely results in me being more effective at my job. We get in our own way too often.

When I first started at zulily, it was a fun and exciting place to work, team worked together to react quickly. We worked hard, but also had fun. I looked forward to going to work every day. The culture has changed, I am not excited to come to work, we are not focused on the right things.

My own copy leadership team is professional, pleasant, engaged and transparent. They all care about us employees as workers and as people. The top co. leadership team is professional and hard-working. I am watching to see how all the new plans, like Oygen, play out.

As the newer leaders have some in from amazon, there seems to be more of a culture of focusing what is being done wrong or can be improved vs celebrating some of the wins. There needs to be a better balance.

Starting salaries are low, and raises are just tiny. Benefits are good, but healthcare is so expensive. It's hard to get by on what Zulily pays me. Also, I have found internal promotion to be nigh-impossible for me. I'm always frustrated.

The assistant buyer role at Zulily is much more involved than a typical assistant buyer role so basing pay off market rates doesn't seem quite right. I also personally feel and have noticed several others becoming increasingly frustrated that we do so much but path to promotion/better pay is unclear

Employees are asked to "prove" themselves for three months in a role before being promoted. In other words, do the work, but don't get paid.

Why is a strange question. At any time I could make 25% more money at a number of other companies, with better benefits, and similar work-life balance. I choose to stay because of my direct leadership and how they're helping me grow.

There seems to be a new mentality in the past year that is very competitive amounst your peers, who can speak up more in a meeting, who can own the most projects, ect. Should be focused on the quality of work vs the amount of airtime you are getting in meetings.

we're down headcount by a lot and our workload hasn't been reduced enough. we need people. on my team alone we have lost a few people due to frustrations with recognition and promotions so that process needs to be improved

The culture that Zuliy once had is gone. It used to be a fast paced company, changing quickly to react to the business. Now, we are so focused on writing docs and changing process instead of what we are here for, the customer and driving a business.

Sometimes the work can get repetitive & stale, but at times can be so busy that there isn't really time to branch out to try or be involved in new experiences outside of the regular duties in our roles.
