I find Newsela an interesting combination. There are so many wonderful things: fascinating people, shared drive to improve education, flexibility with working hours and time off. There are also things that frustrate me: work feeling mired in perpetual ambiguity, people leaving, lack of transparency.
Friendly, eloquent, helpful, sharp, honest, and humble.
Frankness, compassion, resourcefulness and ambition.
Interesting, friendly, driven, helpful people. Every day I see ways we look out for each other.
The culture and environment here is considerate, talkative, and laid back. Productively engaging with each other happens organically.
I admire and enjoy the people I work with! Plus my job is something I already love doing.
Making things better for teachers and students. Working with the people I get to work with. Addressing challenging problems.
The leadership team expresses goals, ideas, and updates very effectively. By that I mean their communication has been thoughtful, succinct, honest, concrete, and interesting.
I value each of my team members for their kindness, intelligence, and quirkiness. Plus, we all naturally want to help each other and forward the mission?
Honestly, I see my compensation package as essentially money in different disguises. And it adds to a princely sum! Outside of that, there's the flexible time off, which I appreciate!
The projects I get to work on and the people I get to work with. The projects are interesting and have obvious impact, the people are also interesting and just stellar collaborators.
I appreciate the obvious and deep concern with providing value to teachers and students. I appreciate the details on what's going well, what we could improve, where we're headed, including explanations about why.
People care about each other, our space, our mission, and how we get there. We seem to have great norms around reflecting and giving each other thoughtful and honest feedback to keep growing.
Comparing in the labor market, I don't think Newsela's compensation package is outstanding. Though, not comparing for a second, of course my salary is the most important part of what Newsela offers me, and I'm incredibly grateful for the privilege of having such solid financial stability.
