Best Places to Work 2018

What are the best companies to work for today? As 2018 comes to a close, Comparably has published its annual Best Places to Work 2018 lists, a compilation of culture awards showcasing companies that received the highest ratings on Comparably.com throughout the year.

Comparably’s mission is to make work transparent and rewarding for employees and employers. These lists are meant to highlight the leaders and businesses who are helping to drive positive culture change across companies large and small.

Each list we publish seeks to recognize an important aspect of workplace culture, and the companies and business leaders who make the cut tend to have markedly higher approval ratings than their peers. For example, the leaders who appear on our Best CEOs list this year had an average approval rating of 88% from their employees versus 70% on average.

This year’s lists also highlighted companies who are raising the bar when it comes to having a culture that honors diversity and inclusion. Some examples include Sunrun being the first solar company to reach pay parity; Bumble’s CEO launching a fund to invest in female founders; and two-thirds of Aflac’s workforce being women. At General Mills, the CEO personally reviews diversity and inclusion progress quarterly and sets the tone for accountability throughout the company.

The awards come at a time when businesses in nearly every sector are looking for ways to innovate and compete amid great technological change. The people and companies featured on our lists are a way forward, raising the bar in everything from compensation and professional development to work-life balance and perks and benefits. We encourage business leaders to be inspired by the way in which these companies are navigating new business norms.

See below for a look at all of the lists in our Best Places to Work 2018 series as well as a methodology for how the awards are calculated. And don’t forget to check out our Best Places to Work 2017 series as well.

About the awards:

There was no submission process, fee or cost associated with inclusion. To be considered, companies had to have a minimum threshold of ratings from employees who left anonymous public ratings on their company page on Comparably.com.

To leave a rating, employees were encouraged to visit comparably.com/companies, search for their company, and click on the “Rate your company” button.

Companies with 500+ employees need at least 50 employees to qualify and companies with less than 500 employees need at least 15 employees to qualify. However, the more employee participants the better since additional weight is given to scores at companies with more participation from their employee base.
