What do you like best about the leadership team?
Transparency and willingness to share
Transparent, focused, goal-driven and everyone is mission-driven
I like that our leadership team is very open when we have questions about projects/things that are going on within the company.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Leadership. Social skills. Reading a room
They need to ask the employees what they need/want/are working on before making decisions that affect them. They need to be more involved and visible. They need to impress upon management the importance of being better leaders/require all management to take leadership training.
Creating more buzz about the new initiatives and directions the company is heading towards.

What is the best part about your compensation package?
All equity is worthless and leadership seems afraid to talk about it
The base salary is fair and slightly better than average market rate.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I would feel better about my compensation if there were full transparency on people's salaries at the company. Benefits-wise: I feel like the amount we are asked to pay monthly for our healthcare is way too high. I've worked at start ups that pay for more of my healthcare than 23andMe.
My title doesn't reflect my role, so while the comp may be ok for the title I have, I feel like it is insufficient for my actual role. Getting this "corrected" requires approval through the promotion process, which is slow and uncertain.

My team members care about one another and definitely want to help each other and support each other and I feel like they have my back.

What makes you most happy at work?
Great colleagues and working environment. Decent perks and employee support.
Interacting with my coworkers and feeling like we are making a major impact
Building systems that improve our machine learning model pipelines. We do this by automating and productionizing these workflows and allowing our scientists to get better insights fasster from our database.

I love the interaction between coworkers and departments. Most departments collaborate and it enhances our culture.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
I would feel better about my experience if I had a clearer view of how I fit into the company and felt more like I can actually affect the change and progress that I'd like to. I'd also like to feel more supported in seeking those growth opportunities for myself.

It does feel like the company still retains a little bit of the "start up" culture wherein people seem excited about what they're trying to do and there's a lot of cross-functional collaboration. 23andMe also definitely clearly cares about being mission-driven.
