General Motors CEO Mary Barra Bio

Ms. Mary T. Barra serves as the Chief Executive Officer of General Motors of Canada Limited. Ms. Barra has been the Chief Executive Officer of General Motors Company January 15, 2014. Under her leadership, General Motors is focused on strengthening its core business of building great cars, trucks and crossovers, while also working to lead the transformation of personal mobility through advanced technologies like connectivity, electrification, autonomous vehicles and car sharing. She served as an Executive Vice President of Global Product Development & Global Purchasing and Supply Chain at General Motors Company from August 2013 to January 15, 2014. Ms. Barra served as Senior Vice President of Global Product Development of General Motors Company from February 1, 2011 to 2013 and served as its Chief of Product Development. In these roles, Ms. Barra and her teams were responsible for the design, engineering and quality of General Motors vehicle launches worldwide. She served as Vice President of Global Human Resources at General Motors Company from July 30, 2009 to February 1, 2011 and served as its Vice President of Global Manufacturing Engineering. She served as an Executive Director of Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering of Motors Liquidation Company (formerly General Motors Corporation) from 2004 to July 2009. Ms. Barra served as Vice President of Global Manufacturing Engineering at Motors Liquidation Company from February 1, 2008 to July 2009. She held a number of engineering and staff positions, including Plant Manager of Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant; Executive Director of Competitive Operations Engineering and General Director of Internal Communications for General Motors North America. She began her career with General Motors in 1980 as a General Motors Institute (Kettering University) co-op student at the Pontiac Motor Division. She has been the Chairman of General Motors Company since January 4, 2016 and its Director since January 15, 2014. She has been a Director at The Walt Disney Company since August 23, 2017. Ms. Barra serves as a Member of the Stanford University Board of Trustees and the Stanford GSB Advisory Council. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Detroit Economic Club; the Board of Trustees for Detroit Country Day School and as a member of The Business Council. She serves on the Kettering University Board of Trustees and Inforum Center for Leadership Board of Directors. She served as a Director of General Dynamics Corporation since March 15, 2011 until May 3, 2017. She is also Co-Chair of the Department of Transportation's Advisory Committee on Automation in Transportation. She was named one of Automotive News' 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry??? in 2005 and again in 2010. In 2010, she earned Kettering Alumni Association's Management Achievement Award for her specific contributions with positive and lasting effects in the field of management. She received a GM fellowship to the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Ms. Barra holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from General Motors Institute (Kettering University) in 1985. She holds an MBA in Business Administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1990.
