I work at an Olive Garden location in Southern California. The training was great, actually kind of intense at times ha, but I really appreciated the time and effort spent teaching how to do things "the Darden way" (if you will) but once we opened.. it was VERY stressful and Mgmt only cared about #s
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
The stress of having to meet (and exceed) daily requirements for guest counts, wine sales, add-on's and everything else does not always help people succeed, more often, it creates a harsh, unsettled environment that workers don't want to be, and they quit.
What are some of the best things about your team?
My coworkers, we really are like family. We have each other's backs on the floor, for the most part. And we want us all to succeed. There is competing that happens, primarily because the management teams sole focus on everyone's numbers every single shift, so it does create a stressful environment
What makes you most happy at work?
Working with my friends made can make or break a shift. During times when I'm 'in the weeds' the help is great, though it usually isn't possible to help much because everyone is in the same boat too. But the comradery and true friendship, lightening the mood with a joke or something, can change alot
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
The payout system never has made sense to me. Nearly every shift, no matter lunch or dinner, busy or slow; I am usually leaving with less than 50 dollars in my pocket ("tips") after having to give the Manager about the same amount during the end of shift Cashing Out. Somethings wrong with payouts.
