Q&A With Docusign Employees
IDX: 0 TOT: 62
Is there good communication and co-operation between departments or are there silos?
Many many silos - many teams working on competing efforts and then the politics involved on many labels. Many weak managers who are afraid to pick a direction and wait for others to lead them.
It depends on the specific teams. You will experience both.
Bad communication and cooperation. Marketing group was a nightmare. Most of the people I worked closely with left the company in 2017.
What are your coworkers at Docusign like?
Top Employee Response
Teams are incentivized and structured in ways that don't foster collaboration. I like my co-workers, but our teams are misaligned so unnecessary tension happens.
Some are super smart and friendly, others are ineffective and toxic. You get the extremes of the ranges.
My experience was toxic cliquey backstabbing.
How's the feedback proccess at Docusign?
The feedback process is very one-sided. Regardless of what you and your manager talk about face to face, the written record will only reflect the manager's comments and NOT yours. So even if you agree to or suggest mitigation steps and action items to improve, the written feedback will NOT reflect any of this. It'll just look like you didn't make any effort. WATCH OUT.
Once a year and executives pick those that are more fixable and fix them. Ignored ones are usually the more serious ones.
Formally, there is an annual review & feedback cycle. I wrote up a long set of achievements and goals and my manager never bothered to write anything in response. I know a few other people who never even set goals at the beginning of the year. Raises and promotions are completely up to your lead and may or may not be based on performance and ability at all.
What kind of people succeed at Docusign?
Top Employee Response
Agree on the comment about big talking, white males succeeding. Top management is a big boys club and promote those who are similar.
Self promoting, sales-y, big talkers, white men.
Play the game of thrones. It's very political at the senior level.
What is the best perk or benefit that Docusign offers?
Family planning benefit
nothing special that others do not also offer
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Docusign?
The company would need a lateral house cleaning across most departments and a serious detox deep clean in Sales.
End silos.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining Docusign?
How toxic and harmful their culture is to minorities and people who stand up to bullies.
The real culture
How much diversity is there among employees at Docusign?
It's mostly white and faux white liberal at that. A bunch of people who hide behind the veil and want the minorities to be grateful and quiet.
A lot. Good balance. Positive
Is the management structure very hierarchical?
There is much effort to pat each other on back for little or no accomplishments.
Yes
What interview questions does Docusign ask?
Behavioral mostly and your prior experience.
Mostly behavioral in my case, but for some of the more technical roles, I imagine they'll ask technical questions.
What benefits does Docusign provide?
Usually the standard ones. medical, dental, and vision provided. There is a transit benefit as well.
The standard benefits - health, dental, vision, pto & vto. No 401K unfortunately.
What would cause you to leave your job at Docusign?
Top Employee Response
Career pathing. Toxic coworkers. Ineffective management.
Management, management, management. Many of them don't know how to lead nor do they really care about their teams. Some of them don't even show up to work -- they "work from home" and don't even answer emails. Complaints about specific managers via annual surveys have been ignored.
How common is it to switch departments or teams at Docusign?
I have seen a few cases. Definitely have to make a case for it.
No, very very uncommon. Teams are like islands or tribes. I know people who's managers have actively blocked their transfers to other teams and departments.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at Docusign?
Not difficult. The work life balance is good here.
Easy. People leave at 5 PM everyday.
How rewarding is your job at Docusign?
Top Employee Response
No meaningful career path. Career growth for women is particularly slow. management slow to respond to gender pay gap -- all talk and little action.
Moderately rewarding because I am actually working on interesting projects. However, there is absolutely no career pathing or do I see a path forward for myself at this company so I will probably have to leave soon.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at Docusign?
Know senior leadership. Nepotism is rampant at this company.
Get a referral. Everyone hired is a referral basically.
What's the best part of your job at Docusign?
Docusign is a great product, so I like working with a product that sells itself.
My direct manager and coworkers
How do you feel about Docusign's future?
Good, I think customers need this type product, so will always have business.
50-50. The company needs to continue to meet it's targets. The valuation is very high, which means the stock needs to perform very well in order to have a successful IPO.
How common are layoffs at Docusign?
I've never heard of anyone getting laid off, which leads to many underachievers and toxic people remaining at the company for way longer than they should be.
Mass layoffs haven't happened, although well over half the people I started with around 4 years ago have been pushed out due to politics.
What do people at Docusign think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
New CEO is good. I think most folks like him.
They think he's okay, but he really needs to take action on the culture and get rid of the toxic and inept VPs and SVPs (who are everywhere). They did a pulse survey right when he joined and the results were abysmal but really no action taken. Also, invest in developing your employees. Right now, they just expect people to join work for 1-2 years and churn out because there's no development and raises are really minimal (0-4%) unless you're the bosses favorite or complain a lot.
How does Docusign make decisions around promotions?
If you are sales or BD, it's pretty much revenue driven, even when it doesn't make sense. If you are marketing, it's how much you've promoted yourself. So marketing people are usually the first ones to blast the whole executive team about their accomplishments, under the disguise of recaps or team appreciation notes . If you are product / engineering, its how big your project is not how impactful it is.
annual review, 5% allocated per employee per team (for all raises & promotions), your manager allocates that percentage out across your team
How's the vacation policy at Docusign?
4 weeks per year.
20 days
What makes you the most proud about working at Docusign?
Absolutely nothing. This place is toxic to anyone who speaks out against bullying or racism.
What is the hardest interview question Docusign asks?
They are not that hard
How often do employees get raises at Docusign?
Depends on if you are a favorite and in with the current “in people”. If not, sorry.
