Framebridge FAQs

Framebridge's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 111 most popular questions Framebridge receives.

Frequently Asked Questions About Framebridge

  • Yes, we can certainly frame your newspaper or magazine, either as a full front page or cover or as a series of article clippings.

If you're framing just a single page, you can order a frame by simply selecting "Newspaper/Magazine" here and entering the page dimensions.

    here

If you're framing multiple pages or articles, or an article clipping with the newspaper's masthead, the process does incur additional charges which we would charge after you place your order:

$25 for up to five separate pieces in one frame

$5 each for anything beyond five pieces

To ensure you order the correct size frame and that we arrange your pieces to your specifications we'd ask that you:

Lay out the sections of the article in the way you'd like them arranged in the frame

Measure the combined height and width of the total arrangement (it's ok if you aren't exact)

Click and choose "Newspaper/Magazine" as your art type. If you want a specific layout (i.e. the way you've organized them above for the measurements) please upload a picture of that layout instead of using the Sample Art option when you order

Make a note in the Special Instructions field at checkout detailing how you want the pieces to be arranged and any other notes for our framing team

Once we receive your piece, our team will be in touch if we have any questions!

  • Helping you choose a frame is what we do best! You can opt for our (free) Designer's Choice option when you purchase a frame, and our team of expert designers will email you mock-ups of four beautiful frame styles with your art inside within 48 hours of processing your art in our studio (this begins immediately for upload orders).

When you place your order for a Designer’s Choice frame, you'll answer a few questions about your style preferences and the vision that you have for your piece. Feel free to leave us notes as well! Do you have a photo of the room? Leave a link!

If you're ordering more than one Designer’s Choice frame, let us know if you want them in matching frames, a cohesive mix, or neither. If you don't love the designs, no worries we'll continue to design (for free) until we get it right! If you just need a quick eye or want a live consult, you can chat with our team online as well.

Designer's Choice is now available for use through Guest Checkout as well. Your order confirmation, frame designs, and all other communications will be sent to whichever email you provide, so be sure it's an inbox you check regularly!

  • Yes, we can! If you're framing a painting on canvas or a textile then we can frame your art without acrylic in front. However, if your art is paper or anything more fragile than canvas or fabric, we do not recommend framing it without acrylic.

Our acrylic protects art from humidity and UV rays over time, and the best way to take care of your paper art is by framing it behind acrylic. Also, if we are framing your art with a mat or as a float frame, we have to use acrylic in order to keep the mat and your art clean and in good shape so you can appreciate it for a long time to come.

  • Yes! Our framing is completely custom, so we can absolutely customize your frame's mat. Here are some details:

    Mat Width:

We will cut a custom mat proportional to the size of your art and the style of your frame's moulding. While every job is custom and there are exceptions to every rule, the default mat widths (that you see on the website) are 2.5" per edge for Instagram, Extra Small, and Small frames(5" combined mat width) and 3" per edge for Medium, Large, and Extra Large frames (6" combined mat width). Our Grand frames are too large for a mat.

To request a custom mat width, simply enter a note in the Special Instructionsfield on your order. Increasing the mat width does incur additional charges as follows:

If the total mat width or height is larger than the standard listed above (5" or 6" total depending on size) but less than 10" total, the extra cost is $25. If you'd like a statement mat and your total mat width will be between 10" and 20", the extra cost is $40. Anything over 20" of total mat width will be an additional $60. If you'd like to be sure of the extra cost before ordering, you can use our price calculator to find your base price and add the corresponding additional charges. Alternatively, just ask a member of our team to do the math for you!

If you need your final frame to be an exact size, indicate that in the Special Instructions and we'll take care of the rest!

    Mat colors:

You can choose from white, off-white, grey, or black on our website or ask for any of our colored mats in the Special Instructionsfield on your order. If you select the white, off-white, or greyoption, our Design Experts will select from a range of shades to find the one that best complements your piece!

    Accent Mats:

Accent mats (double matting) are perfect for pieces which you’d like to draw some color out of, or to just add a bit of flair. Please keep in mind, however, that there is a $25 fee for accent mats. You can see all of the accent mat colors that we offer here.

    [email protected]

    Multiple Mat Openings

We can absolutely create a frame with multiple mat openings! One thing to note is that due to the time and labor it takes to create multiple mat openings, we do charge an additional fee for the service. Our pricing is an additional $25 for up to 5 openings, and $3 per opening beyond five. This would be charged after we receive the order. For more information, click here.

  • If you follow our Instagram, you know we're obsessed with Gallery Walls! We currently offer two options to help you create your perfect wall - our Gallery Wall Upload Sets and our Gallery Wall Consultation Service.

With our Gallery Wall Upload Sets, you can choose one of our picture-perfect gallery wall layouts and upload your photos. We’ll custom frame them and ship everything (including a life-size paper hanging guide!) to your door, ready to hang. These Sets are pre-set arrangements for print & frame (uploaded) pieces only, and we're not able to make substitutions for frame size or style.

But, if you want to include physical art pieces in your gallery wall, have a different design in mind, or want to incorporate framed pieces you already have, you can work with one of our talented experts to design a custom gallery wall for your space.

Our Gallery Wall Consultation Service costs $199 for your consultation with a designer who will help you select frames and create a set of layouts that work with your unique space and design aesthetic.

We're excited to work with you and can't wait to help with your next project!

  • Since our Gallery Wall Upload Sets are pre-designed, we aren't able to offer mat, moulding, or sizing substitutions at this time.

You are still able to create the look you want by building your own custom order or by opting to work with a designer via our paid Gallery Wall Consultation Service here.

  • The first step is to purchase a consultation (which you can do here )! You'll get an invitation to do our Questionnaire right away, and we’ll contact you within 48 business hours.

What we'll need from you in order to get started:

Photos and measurements of your wall/the room you'd like the gallery wall to go in

Any Digital photos or art you'd like included in the design

Photos and measurements to any mail-in art you'd like included in the design

We also offer an Art Concierge service and Photo Editing Services if you're interested.

Once we have this info, your Project Manager will pair you with one of our expert designers. They will take all the above information into consideration and design you a true-to-scale gallery wall specialized to your space and style!

Once you and your designer have found something absolutely perfect for your space, we will get your frames into your cart for you so you can place your order, using any promo code on the frame purchase you may have. You'll also get a digital (PDF) hanging guide with instructions on how to get your frames up on your wall so you can fully enjoy them!

  • Our Gallery Wall Consultation doesn’t expire, so you’re welcome to purchase the Consultation and start the process at any time.

That said, we cannot begin designing your Gallery Wall without access to your digital files, photos of your physical pieces, and wall dimensions. This is because the sizing (whether physical or digital art) and orientation (horizontal versus vertical) of each of your pieces will completely change the way we're able to fit your pieces together within your wall space.

  • Of course! While we’d love the opportunity to frame more for you, we’re happy to include already-framed or hanging objects (such as clocks, wall sculptures, etc.) that don’t need to be framed in your custom Gallery Wall Design. We just need photos and measurements of these frames or items in order to include them in your to-scale design.

  • Our Gallery Wall Consultation is priced per wall space. If you know that you want to design multiple wall spaces, just let us know when you purchase your Consultation and we'll make sure to pair you with the same designer for both.

  • The initial information gathering and design mapping can take anywhere from 1-5 business days.

From there, your designer will need roughly 1-3 business days to complete your first design, with each round of edits after that taking 1 or 2 days to complete. Once you've designed a wall that you love, we'll take care of or putting your frames in your virtual cart for you so that it's ready for you to checkout.

Once your order has been placed, digital photos should arrive at your door within 3-5 business days from order to delivery, and 7-14 business days for mail-in art (depending on shipping speeds).

If you have a strict deadline, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we can help determine if a Gallery Wall Consultation is right for you!

  • Not exactly.

In order to better protect the photos and artwork that have been entrusted to us, all of our frames are sealed at the back with a custom kraft paper. The art itself is securely positioned within the frame as well. This means that art in your Framebridge frames cannot be swapped out over time. But we can offer an identical (artwork allowing) replacement frame in the future that can take the spot of its predecessor on the wall.

If you'd like, your designer is happy to create a Gallery Wall that is easy to add new frames to over time as you make more special memories to frame! Many of our customers find that adding on to their wall or swapping out frames over time is a good way to keep the wall fresh and exciting.

  • Our custom Gallery Wall Consultation is special because your designer takes into consideration your unique space and maps it out perfectly in your own digital (PDF) hanging guide. The hanging guide comes with a to-scale visual of your frames hung up within your wall space, measurement reference points for hanging help, along with tips for how to go about the process of hanging your Gallery Wall.

  • You may have seen that our Gallery Wall Upload Sets come with premade paper hanging guides that can be put against the wall of your choice for a simple hanging process. These were created as an option for our customers to receive a standardized design where you drag and drop your digital images into the preselected frames in each premade layout.

We'd love to be able to provide these life-size hanging guides for our Gallery Wall Consultations and are working towards that but it's not a possibility right now.

Our Gallery Wall Consultation service is more customized because your designer takes into consideration your specific taste, as well as your exact space and all of the pieces you are working with (both digital and physical artwork). While we certainly understand the ease of having that paper hanging guide in hand, we're not able to print out a lifesize paper guide based on the exact specifications for each of our customer's walls at this time.

  • We can certainly frame textiles such as scarves, handkerchiefs, knitted hats, embroidered art like Otemi, shirts, baby clothes, or really any cloth piece (as long as the item can be folded or lie fairly flat, we need the depth to be 0.5" or less). For items like this, we'll need to use a special technique called a sew float, which is an additional $25. Sew Floating means we will gently pin the textile on top of a mat using nylon fasteners. We'll also iron or steam your textile free of charge when it arrives for a crisp clean look if applicable.

To place an order for a textile, head here, and choose “Float Mount” as your mat style when viewing our frames.

  • Float mounting is a beautiful way to show off the textured edges of old papers, to preserve the visibility of artist signatures when they are on or near the edge of your piece, or just to add a little drama to your framed art.

Instead of layering a mat board with an opening on top of your art, we will “float” your art 3/8” above a mat and leave an inch and a half of space between the edges of your piece and the frame. We’ll use spacers to separate the acrylic and frame from your art and the mat board, suspending your piece between the materials.

Float mounting is available with our Ash Gallery, Avalon, Beaumont, Beverly, Black Walnut Gallery, Black Walnut Wide, Bolton, Brighton, Carson, Cherry Gallery, Cherry with Black, Cherry with Navy, Cherry with White, Dorado, Dover, Gresham, Irvine, Irvine Slim, Lille, Lucia, Mandalay, Marin, Marquette, Mercer, Mercer Slim, Monroe, Monterey, Nassau, Newport, Olympia, Providence, Ravenswood, Richmond, Rosemont, Sonoma, Tacoma, Ventura, Verona, Walnut Gallery, and Wren frame styles.

We will charge $25 for up to 5 items in separate mat openings OR for five Float Mounted items (or a mixture of the two) and $5 per mat opening/floated item after that.

To request this treatment for your piece, simply select "Float Mounting" as your mat style. If your frame style is not eligible for float mounting (any of the frames not listed here), the float mounting option will not be available for that frame in the Mat dropdown menu.

  • Yes, we can frame jerseys for a flat fee of $249, this fee includes complimentary shipping both ways. We offer jersey frames in four styles: Mercer Slim, Irvine Slim, Marin, and Sonoma. At the moment, jerseys are not available in any other frame styles due to the depth required to mount the jersey within the frame.

Our jersey frames fit all jersey styles (soccer, football, baseball, basketball, t-shirts you name it!). All jerseys default to showcasing the back of the jersey except for baseball jerseys, which we default to framing from the front. We fold all jerseys so that they fit neatly on a 32"x32" square of mat, and we sew them gently into place so they look great for decades to come. Because jersey styles vary by sport, so do their default layouts, which you can view below.

When your jersey arrives, we'll steam it for a crisp, clean appearance and gently stitch it to the mat (always reversible) and handcraft your frame to custom-fit your jersey perfectly. To start framing a jersey now, you can click here.

Otherwise, you name it, we can (probably) frame it! We've framed everything from matchbooks to antique maps, and have a team of skilled experts ready to handle and preserve your special items.

The vast majority of objects (3D pieces or anything with more depth than a piece of paper) will need to be float mounted on top of a mat. This costs $25 extra because float mounting takes more time/skill and materials. The weight and fragility/intricacy of the object will be the deciding factor of which kind of float mount is required (a heavier or more intricate object will need to be flat-floated on top of the mat, and something lighter or more solid can be raised-floated on a pedestal), which gives a more 3D look to the frame.

A few guidelines to keep in mind:

    - We cannot frame items thicker than 1" deep

    - We cannot frame items heavier than 0.5 lbs

    - We currently don't offer custom framing for pieces larger than 32" x 40" (and for objects that need to be float mounted, they should be 30" x 38" or less)

    - Due to shipping concerns, we don't frame glass or mirrors

    - We will always reach out to you for permission beforehand, and let you know if there is an additional charge needed for the specialty technique

    - We can frame multiple items together in the same frame! You can read about this process & pricing here

  • Now that you have your piece, what do you do with it? Unless you’re styling a chic ledge gallery wall, you probably want to get it up on the wall. While driving nails into the wall can sound intimidating, we’re here to help every step of the way.Check out our blog or follow the steps below:

Step 1: Decide where you'd like to hang your piece. In general, we suggest hanging your art so that the vertical center (the middle of the frame) is 57" (inches) above the floor, or at your eye-level if it's in a hallway or entryway where you're usually walking past it.

Step 2: Gather your supplies. You will need a hammer, a level (or a friend with good eyes), a pencil, and a tape measure or ruler.

Step 3: We include nails and hanging hardware with every frame. Grab the nail that we sent with your order.

Step 4: Time to hang. Take a look at the back of your piece to determine what hanging hardware you have. Depending on the size of your frame your piece will come with different hardware for optimal support. Click on the type of hanging hardware you’re working with for specialized tips on how to hang each piece.

Sawtooth Hanger : If you order a small frame (we're looking at you, Instagram Mini), you'll get a sawtooth hanger.

Hanging Wire : Medium art (up to 16" x 20") come with a hanging wire for your convenience.

Corner Brackets : Ordering large art (up to 24" x 36")? You'll get corner brackets, which make hanging large works incredibly simple!

  • Yes! We love framing canvases.

To preserve and enhance your original pieces of art on canvas, we’ll frame them in one of our canvas floater frames. Canvas works are stretched around 0.5” or 0.875”-deep solid wood stretcher bars (we’ll stretch it for you if it isn’t already) and mounted to sit within the frame, leaving 1/4” of space between the work and the edges of the frame.

Unlike works of art on paper which should be protected from the elements by acrylic and other materials during framing, art on canvas should “breathe”, so we leave the front and a section of the back of your art uncovered.

Canvas framing is available in four floater frame styles Palermo (white), Heathrow (black), Valencia (gold) and Gatwick (silver). The smallest size canvas that we're able to frame in these styles is 7"x7".

  • We frame all photos at a minimum 150 DPI (dots per inch). Based upon the resolution of your photo, our site might only allow it to be printed at this smaller size to ensure your image still looks really crisp and sharp as enlarging it could make it fall below the 150 DPI quality threshold.

To select a larger print size, we recommend trying a higher resolution version of your photo. If you're still having trouble, feel free to email us your file at [email protected] so we can assist!
