A "smart"key fob is essentially a small computer, andremains in constant communication with the car itis paired to any time that it iswithin close vicinity."Smart" keys offer many conveniences, usually including one or more of the following features:
Comfort Access: allowsthe person holdingthe key fob to unlock the vehicle through close proximity to the vehicle door, without needing to press any buttons to unlock.
Driver Unlock Assist: allowsthe person in possession of the key fob to unlock the vehicle by pushing a button on the driver side door.

Because "smart" keys communicate continually with the car they are paired to, they must be placed within an RF (radio frequency) pouch when left in the car.RF pouches block communication between the key fob and the car.
A few issues can arise if a "smart" key is left inside of its paired car without beingproperly secured in itsRF pouch:

Additional mileage beyond the standard limits will result in additional charges as longer trips lead to additional wear and tear and maintenance needs.Standard cars have a limit of 20 miles per hour, up to 200 miles per 24-hour period. Specialty cars work the same way with half the mileage per hour: 10 miles per hour, up to 100 miles per 24 hour period. All Drive With Uber vehicles have unlimited milage.
Example:A renter books for three full days, which allows the renter 600 miles cumulative for the entire booking. If the renter drives 250 miles on day 1, 50 miles on day 2, and 100 miles on day 3, the total mileage calculated at the end of the reservation is 400 miles. Day 1 would not incur an overage fee even though 250 miles occurred on day 1. The mileage calculation and any overage fees are based on the total mileage driven by the renter for the entire trip in comparison to the mileage cap, which is calculated based on booking times and dates.
Additional mileage is charged at the following rates:
For renters, who travel over the mileage allotment in a standard car,a charge of $0.50 per-mile willbe charged to the credit card used under the reservation.
For renters, travel over your mileage allotment in a speciality car, a charge of $5.00 per-mile willbe charged to the credit card used under the reservation.
View ArticleAll cars on Getaround that are equipped with a smart key fob have an RF pouch in which to store the key. The RF pouch allows you to store the smart key fob securely inside the vehicle.
The RF pouches provided by Getaround are silver and have a velcro enclosure on one end. The velcro end of the pouch must be securely fastened whenever the key is not in use. The RF pouch will be similar to the one below:
help center
What is a smart key fob?
Generally a car key is considered smart if it has one or more of the following characteristics:
Comfort Access: allows the person in possession of the key fob to unlock the vehicle through close proximity to the vehicle door.
Driver Unlock Assist: allows the person in possession of the key fob to unlock the vehicle by pushing a button on the driver side door.
Push-to-Start: allows the person in possession of the key fob to start the car by simply pushing the start button when they are in the car. Please note that depending on the make and model of the vehicle, an RF pouch may not be required.
Why and how should I use the RF pouch?
RF pouches are made of special materials that block communication between the car and the smart key fob. When the smart key fob is not in an RF pouch, it communicates with the car, allowing you to perform the functions listed above. Leaving the smart key fob unprotected puts the car at risk for being accessed by someone other than you or another verified renter.
When you pickup and return your Getaround car, the car key should be stored in the RF pouch we have provided. The velcro end of the pouch must be securely fastened whenever the key is not in use. Failing to properly secure the smart key fob in the RF pouch is in violation of our Renter Policies and Procedures.
It is imperative that you know how and when to use the RF pouch. If you have any questions about RF pouches, please reach out to us via our.
View ArticleEach car on Getaround has a designated home location. A home location can be street parking near a certain address or a reserved private space. The home location, in addition to any other details about your trip you might need, are available on Trips Page. You can get to this page by clicking the menu icon on the top left of the mobile app and clicking Trips or by clicking here on the web.

Street Parking
Getaround cars without a reserved spot may be street parked, meaning that they can be parkedwithin a .25 mile radius of the home location. Once your trip starts, you can use the Getaround mobile app on iPhone or Android to find the car's real-time location.
Remember that when you return a street-parked car, you need to check the signage for any parking restrictions. You are responsible to park the car in a place that is safe, legal, and free from street cleaning/other parking restrictions for at least 24 hours following your trip end time.
