Q&A With Groupon Employees
When it comes to the people of Groupon, we believe that great ideas and great outcomes come from being open and inclusive. Everyone’s invited to the Groupon party, and we encourage everyone to speak up. Bringing our “whole selves” to work means a more interesting, education and engaging workplace, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

How's the work life balance at Groupon?
No work life balance - you work very long hours. Unlimited vacation that you can barely use.
Very good, Groupon really values WLB
Terrible if you're in sales or merchant development. It's really bad for merchant development.
Does Groupon have any remote positions?
They did until they laid everyone off
yeah but only the golden children can get them
Some people work remote 100% of the time but is not usual.
What benefits does Groupon provide?
Top Employee Response
Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance
Recently started 401K contribution but at a lower % than most. Health care is covered but with a premium you pay. Some education reimbursement. No other benefits that I can think of.
good health and free lacroix
What part of Groupon's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Most of it is having difficulties especially their local (massage and other deals with no variety and more complaints). Getaways and Goods aren't doing great but seem to be more interesting.
Goods is doing well, the local or g1/g2 world not so much aside from health and beauty. Food and drink is suffering bad!!!
The executives are making money but cutting quality employees so it is growing but will crash soon
What's the office layout like? Is it totally open, or are there cubicles and other private spaces?
Top Employee Response
open office, you're packed like sardines, but theres tons of conf rooms anyone can book
Open space
Totally open
What should I wear for an interview at Groupon?
Do NOT interview in jeans - wear something nice. A suit is probably too much, but please treat it like a professional interviewing experience, despite the fact that people will be casually dressed once you're in the building
jeans and a nice shirt is more than enough, leave the suit at home.
How's the vacation policy at Groupon?
awesome unlimited pto if your manager approves, so you can take off a lot, but they will place a lot of hurdles in your way
Generous
What are your coworkers at Groupon like?
Top Employee Response
My co-workers were great but many of them quit. Newer co-workers seemed apathetic but nice. The smartest and creative co-workers have all quit.
AMAZING the only reason people stay are the people
What interview questions does Groupon ask?
Top Employee Response
I was a temp to hire so they asked me a few questions but we mostly spoke about my temp work for them.
The usual - work examples and situational and behavioral questions
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Groupon?
Remove these awful leaders who consistently are rated low on the weekly and monthly Pulse surveys. Hire from the outside so they can change the dog eat dog culture there. Actually mean it when you say you care about the people.
One change I would make would be to value employees. Groupon lays off employees every 6 months and hires cheaper younger ones that are not properly trained. The biggest problem with Groupon is that it does not see employees as an asset. The company will crash without quality employees who are paid a living wage.
What does the leadership team at Groupon need to get better at?
Top Employee Response
Leadership is too far removed from the actual workings for the company. They have no clue the impact their actions have.
To many managers. Company is top heavy
What needs to change to make the company culture better at Groupon?
Everyone knows it's a mess. Why bother caring about projects that are going to implode in a few days anyway.
Working for the numberx
