  • As a job seeker, you might want to limit your search to show just jobs from a particular company or with a specific job title. Check out the examples below to get a better understanding of how to perform specified searches.

    Search string examples

To return all jobs at Microsoft, enter the following in the what box:

    company:microsoft

This search string returns all jobs that include the word consultant in the job title:

    title:consultant

If the company name or job title includes multiple words, use double quotation marks. For example:

    title:"business development"

    Searching for complex phrases

You can also use complex phrases to fine-tune your search.

For example, to return all jobs that contain the termhealthcareand either the wordmanagerordirector, type the following in thewhatbox:

    (manager OR director) and healthcare

To improve your results, you can continue to revise the search as follows:

(manager OR director) and (healthcare OR pharmaceutical) NOT sales

Tip: Your most recent 10 search strings show to the left of your search results, so you don't have to remember your search strings or re enter them each time you search.

  • If you believe you are a victim of a scam, consider following these tips.

The internet has made many functions of daily life easier and more efficient. But it has also given unscrupulous individuals new tools to perpetrate scams. At Indeed, our mission of helping people get jobs includes working proactively to keep predatory content out of search results and providing tools to help job seekers protect their personal information and financial well-being.

The following guidelines are designed to help job seekers recognize and avoid fraudulent tactics.

    Job Search Dos

Look for verifiable company email addresses. Larger, more established companies have email addresses with top level domains that match their websites. Communications from such large established companies should most often not come from publicly available addresses like yahoo or gmail. If you are contacted by someone with a generic address, ask if they are able to conduct communications via a company domain email address. If theycan'tor wont, proceed with caution.

Watch closely for email addresses with misspelled or spoofed company names. These are often similar to, but not exactly matching the actual company name. Examples of suspicious addresses include [email protected] instead of [email protected], and misspelled company names like [email protected] or [email protected].

Match the job offer to your application. Avoid bait-and-switch scams by confirming that employers that respond to your applications are offering the job for which you applied.

Be cautious when pursuing positions with salaries, perks and flexibility that seem too good to be true. Ask questions to confirm that the position is salaried (not commission only) and that there is a physical base of operations when a work from home opportunity is advertised.

Insist on an in-person meeting. Be wary of job offers that come with little or no interview process. Scammers will often avoid face-to-face interviews by relying on chat services, Skype calls or Google hangouts while offering work from home positions.

Always report suspicious communications to Indeed. If you are contacted by someone you suspect of fraudulent intentions or suspicious business practices, please contact Indeed immediately.

    Job Search Donts

Never send any form of payment to a potential employer you apply to on Indeed. Not only is charging fees a violation of Indeeds rules for companies, these are often a type of scam (see Types of scams.)

Never agree to perform any financial transaction on behalf of a potential employer. This includes accepting or making wire transfers or cashing checks sent to you in order to make purchases on someones behalf.

Never agree to a job that involves opening multiple accounts and/or posting ads on Indeed or on other sites. These are likely scammers and you could become involved in activities that put you in financial and legal jeopardy.

Never accept money upfront for work you have not performed. This is a tactic commonly used in financial scams and puts you at considerable legal risk.

    Types of Scams to Avoid

    Check Scams

Check scams get people to unwittingly take on the risk of passing a bad check. Look out for scammers that offer elaborate stories about needing a personal assistant, caregiver or someone to cash a check to make large purchases or transfer money for them while they are out of town. These often include stories where:

You are required to purchase expensive medical equipment for a family member for them.

They are going to open up a new office in your area and you are required to purchase office supplies, equipment or software using the check.

They offer to pay you up front for work you havent performed yet and ask that you transfer the remainder of the check to another account for them.

    Money Laundering Scams

Reputable, legitimate companies should never ask you to perform financial transactions or money transfers for them, especially via Western Union, MoneyGram or BitCoin. Even you are not asked to transfer any of your own money, these unsavory entities are often looking for other people to perform scam related financial transactions so theydon'thave to.

    Shipping Scams

There is no legitimate scenario where an employer should require you to re-ship packages from your home. These are known as Reshipping Scams and offer work-at-home positions, sometimes advertised as merchandising manager or package processing assistant. Duties include receiving packages and mailing them to foreign addresses on behalf of a client, using postage-paid mailing labels provided via email. Unbeknownst to the new employee, these packages contain:

Merchandise bought with stolen credit cards, which are smuggled out of the country by the reshipping scam.

Counterfeit postal money orders, which are distributed to other scammers.

After helping to smuggle these things out of the country, an employee is paid with counterfeit checks or postal money orders. More information on reshipping scams is available from the U.S. Postal Inspection Services website.

    Fee Scams

It shouldnt cost you money to apply for a job. Not only do fee scams fleece job seekers, they are also signs that a company is involved in other shady activities. Certain legitimate expenditures like uniforms and job tools may be required after you accept a position, but are generally deducted from your salary after you begin working. Likewise, background checks are most often paid for by the employer or offered directly to you by a local government agency and should not be paid by you in the form of a fee to the employer. Types of fees often levied unscrupulously include:

    application fees

    recruiter placement fees

    interview reservations

    training fees

    resume formatting/re-writing fees

    background check fees

If you have any concerns about a job you find on Indeed or receive any communication of job offer that concerns you, please contact Indeed immediately.

By using company trademarks, colors, logos, mail systems and legal disclaimers these "phishing" emails can look very real. Individuals have used these techniques in order to fool Indeed users. • What is "My Jobs?"

My Jobs is a way for you to save jobs youre interested in and track those jobs as you move through the application process. Please note that these options are not indications from the employer of your application status but simply a way for you to keep track of the jobs you have applied to. You can easily move jobs between these sections using the drop down menus to the right of the job postings.

    How to access "My Jobs"

To access My Jobs, go to http://www.indeed.com/myjobs. You must be logged into your Indeed account to view this page. You can also access this page by clicking on your email address in the top right corner and selecting My Jobs in the drop down menu.

    "My Jobs" features

Saved jobs: On the Job Search page, you can save a job to view and apply at a later time. Under each job posting on the search page you will see a link that says save job. Clicking this link moves the job to the Saved Jobs tab. All jobs that you save via the Indeed mobile job search app or the desktop site will appear in this section.

Applied jobs: If you apply to a job that is currently located on your Saved or Visited page, you can move it to your applied jobs by clicking the drop down menu to the right of the posting and selecting Move to Applied. Jobs that offer the Apply with your Indeed resume option will be automatically added to this section when you apply.

Interviewing: Move a job to the Interviewing section when you have scheduled an interview.

Visited jobs: this section will save any job listing that you open while signed into your Indeed account. From here there is an option to delete the job from your My Jobs lists.

Archived jobs: You can move jobs here when you are no longer interested in tracking them. From here there is an option to delete the job from your My Jobs lists.

Adding Notes: you can add a note to any job in your Saved, Applied, Interviewing or Offered sections. To do this, click the downward facing arrow to the right of the job, then choose Add Note.

  • Think you may be the victim of a scam? Below are tips and next steps:

First and foremost, cease all communication with anyone you suspect is trying to, or has scammed you.

The next thing you can do is report the scam. It is important to contact the proper authorities as soon as possible to help recover lost funds and to prevent others from falling prey to the same scam.

If you have any concerns about a job you find on Indeed or receive any communication or job offer that concerns you, please contact Indeed immediately.

If you believe that someone is conducting scams under the name of a legitimate business, you may want to contact that business and let them know that their name is being used for fraudulent purposes.

If you lost money, provided sensitive private information about yourself to someone who you believe is a scammer, or inadvertently participated in possible illegal activity, you may want to contact your local police or cybercrime division.

You can also file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

If you had monetary loss, shared your bank account details, or believe you are in danger of identity theft, you may also want to report the scam to your bank or financial institution.

If you think you are at risk for identity theft, consider taking these actions:

We want to keep Indeed resumes looking relatively uniform and in chronological order so that employers can review them quickly and easily. Using uniform formatting also makes it simpler for users to update their Indeed resumes.

When uploading your resume, make sure that the file is text-based. We recommend uploading a file type that is either a Word document (.doc, .docx), a PDF created from a text file (not scanned in as an image) or a plain .txt, .rtf, .html, or .odt file.
