What's the pay like for employees at Niantic?
Top Employee Response
My pay at least (in engineering) is strong relative to the rest of the industry and includes a very competitive stock option component. I like that the company is willing to make me wealthy if it does well and feel that I'm sharing meaningfully in its success.
Pay is quite competitive!
How are the managers at Niantic?
Agree that the managers are generally inspiring and high quality. Disagree about the growth opportunities. I'm now managing close to 15 directs and the company has actively resisted my efforts to develop the people beneath me into leaders even though some have the potential and desire - this has frustrated them as well as me. With so many directs, my day is completely dominated by meetings and I've had to slash relatively important ones so I can continue to do my job and keep the team going. Going on like this isn't sustainable.
Really inspiring people that I'm honored to work with. Managers know both management and the domains they're managing. Unfortunately most managers are spread pretty thinly - the company clearly wants a flat structure and resisted building out an additional layer of management longer than it should have. But the company is aware of it and working on it, which leads to some fantastic opportunities for people here.
How's career growth and advancement at Niantic?
They're fairly reticent to promote and keep retooling the ladders.
You'll learn a lot here! The management structure of the company is spread a bit too thinly right now and people are getting promoted into management as well, so there are some great advancement opportunities right now for those willing to show they have the right stuff.
What is Niantic's policy towards pets in the workplace?
No pets.
What's the work from home policy like at Niantic?
It varies by team. The company is generally very flexible about working from its other offices and the occasional WFH, but I haven't seen it embrace routine WFH schedules.
