What is the difference between NVIDIA Standard and DCH Display Drivers?Functionally, there is no difference between NVIDIAs Standard and DCH drivers. While the base core component files remain the same, the way DCH drivers are packaged and installed differs from previous (Standard) drivers. When directly comparing the two driver types, the DCH driver package has a smaller size and a faster installation time than the Standard package.

Which versions of Windows 10 supports NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers?NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers are supported on Windows 10 x64 April 2018 Update (Version 1803 OS Build 17134) and later versions.

My Windows 10 PC has NVIDIA Standard Display Drivers installed. Can I download and install NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers from NVIDIA.com?No. NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers cannot be over-installed on top of NVIDIA Standard Display Drivers. We recommend users download drivers through GeForce Experience which will detect your display driver type and download the appropriate version. If you try to install the NVIDIA Control Panel app from the Microsoft Store on a PC that has NVIDIA Standard Drivers, you will see the error message below: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/nvidia-control-panel/9nf8h0h7wmlt?activetab=pivot%3Aoverviewtab

My Windows 10 PC has NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers installed. Can I download and install NVIDIA Standard Display Drivers from NVIDIA.com? No. NVIDIA Standard Display Drivers cannot be over-installed on top of NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers. We recommend users download drivers through GeForce Experience which will detect your display driver type and download the appropriate version.

How can I tell which NVIDIA Windows Driver Type is installed on my PC? To confirm the type of system you have, open the NVIDIA Control Panel -> select System Information from the bottom left hand corner -> locate Driver Type. The text that follows will show if the driver type isDCHorStandard.

I uninstalled the NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers and NVIDIA Control Panel and then proceeded to download and install the latest driver from NVIDIA.com. Once the driver installation was completed, I am not longer seeing the NVIDIA Control Panel. The NVIDIA DCH Display Driver will install the base display driver components but the hardware support apps (NVIDIA Control Panel) must be reinstalled from the Microsoft Windows Store manually. You may download the NVIDIA Control Panel for NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers from the URL below:

Please note: Reinstallation of the NVIDIA Control Panel is only necessary if you manually uninstall the NVIDIA Control Panel. If you are performing a clean install of Windows 10 x64 on a system which came preloaded with NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers, Windows Update will download and install both the NVIDIA DCH Display Driver and NVIDIA Control Panel automatically once you connect to the internet.

After updating my NVIDIA DCH display driver, I am no longer to open the NVIDIA Control Panel. When I attempt to open the NVIDIA Control Panel, I get an error message "NVIDIA Driver is not installed on your system".

The NVIDIA Control Panel app from the Microsoft Store may periodically get updated. If you are seeing the message above, it likely means the latest NVIDIA Control Panel app was not updated to the latest version from the Microsoft Store during the driver update process.

    How to fix it:

From the Windows Start Menu, open theMicrosoft Storeapp.

In the search field on the top right-hand corner, type "NVIDIA Control Panel" until the search as you type result shows the NVIDIA Control Panel app as shown in the screenshot below. Once it appears, proceed to click on it to bring up the page. Note: If you accidently clicked on the search icon after typing"NVIDIA Contol Panel", the Windows Store search results will show you several other games and apps. You will find the NVIDIA Control Panel under the Apps section.

From here it should automatically start updating the NVIDIA Control Panel app. If it does not, you may manually update the app.

Once completed, you should be able to open the NVIDIA Control Panel.

I have NVIDIA Standard Display Drivers installed in my PC. Should I install the NVIDIA Control Panel from the Microsoft Store? No. The NVIDIA Control Panel available from the Microsoft Store is designed for use with NVIDIA DCH Display Drivers only.

The Image Sharpening filter that was first released in NVIDIA Freestyle has now been added to the NVIDIA Control Panel. This addition provides an easy one-click method of applying Image Sharpening globally to all DirectX 9, 10, 11 and 12 games (Vulkan and OpenGL is coming soon in a future driver). Like the Freestyle filter, sharpness can be adjusted on a per-game basis, or you can apply it globally for all supported titles.

    How to Enable Image Sharpening:

To set up image sharpening globally for all games, go to the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings

How to Enable or Disable Image Sharpening on a per app basis.

To enable or disable image sharpening for a specific game, go to the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Simply select the game youd like the modify from the drop-menu and apply the desired settings. This overrides the global image sharpening setting.

If you are unable to find the program, click on Add and choose the desired application, and Add Selected Program

    How to Enable GPU Upscale

You can use your GPU to render at a lower resolution and scale to native for higher performance. To set up image sharpening globally for all games, go to the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings > Image Sharpening > and select "GPU Scaling"

Once upscaling is enabled, all resolutions at or below your native resolution will be upscaled by the GPU. For instance, if you have a 2560x1440 display, but set your game resolution to 1920x1080 because the game is too demanding for your current GPU, well upscale the games graphics to 2560x1440 using a high-quality scaler, and then add a dose of sharpening to improve clarity of upscaled images.

The latest SHIELD Experience adds a beta feature allowing users to set their display frame rate to match the content. For most users, this feature is not needed, however, if you are sensitive to judders caused by mismatchedframe rates, this feature may help.

This feature is in beta. This feature may cause stability issues or may not be available on certain apps.

    Instructions:

AddMatch frame rate(beta)setting to Quick settings (Settings > Device preferences > System > Customize Quick Settings)

Launch app and begin playing video

Press theSettingbutton to access Quick settings (video must be visible in the background)

    SelectMatch frame rate(beta)

You may see brief screen blanking as your display refresh rate becomes adjusted. Your display refresh rate will automatically be reverted once playback has stopped.

    IMPORTANT TIPS:

PLEX and KODI already support automatic frame rate matching on SHIELD. This feature should not be used with those apps

Match Frame Ratecan be assigned to be used with the customizable settings button. This should be used

If you use this feature frequently

If an app does not allow video playback when Quick settings is displayed

When watching Live TV content (YouTube TV,Sling, etc) commercials may be played at a different refresh rate than the video, causing the display refresh rate to be refreshed

    AUDIO & VIDEO ISSUES

    I'm not hearing any sound.

If there's no sound when you're using your SHIELD TV, try the troubleshooting steps below. Try playing a video or song after each step to see if your sound is working.

If you are using a monitor, check that your monitor has an audio output. Many monitors do not have audio output, and require headphones or speakers.

Check that your TV's sound or AV receiver isn't muted.

Check that Android volume isn't muted. Increase the volume on your SHIELDController or Remote.

If you're using SHIELD TV with a separate AV receiver, check that the TV is connected to the AV receiver properly. If you hear sound from the TV but not the receiver, there may be an issue with the connection.

Some HDMI to DVI/VGA adapters may not support audio. If possible, connect your SHIELD TV to an HDMI port on your TV without using an adapter.

Try using a different HDMI input on your TV for your SHIELD TV. Many TVs have several HDMI ports.

My seeing instabilites/static/snow on my screen.

This is generally due to the quality of the HDMI cables used. In most cases, replacing your HDMI cables with high speed cables will resolve this issue. If you are connecting your SHIELD to your TV through a soundbar or reciever, you may need to replace both cables.

I'm unable to set my TV to Dolby Vision mode, but I'm able to play HDR10 content fine.

Dolby Vision communicates video to your TV over HDMI at a higher data rate than even HDR10 video. If you are failing the Dolby Vision cable check, it is generally due to the quality of the HDMI cables used. In most cases, replacing your HDMI cables with high speed cables will resolve this issue.

I have a Dolby Vision capable TV but, I don't see Dolby Vision options available in my "Resolution" options.

Check if you are connected to your TV through a soundbar or reciever. If your reciever does not support Dolby Vision capable mode (12-bit YUV) then SHIELD will not be able to stream Dolby Vision content to your TV. You may want to connect your SHIELD directly to your TV.

Video frame rate is very low.

    Refer to Optimize Video Performance.

    NETWORKING ISSUES

My SHIELD won't connect to Wi-Fi.

Here are some troubleshooting steps if your SHIELD TV won't connect to the Internet.

If your Wi-Fi network appears on the SHIELD

If you see your Wi-Fi network listed but can't connect, try the following:

Ensure that your SHIELD TV is not connected to your network via Ethernet. An Ethernet connection automatically disables Wi-Fi networking.

Make sure you're using the correct network password.

    Restart your SHIELD.

Check if other devices can connect to the Wi-Fi network you're using. If not, there may be an issue with the router.

If your router is having issues in general, update your router firmware.

If you're using a Wi-Fi network at a business, hotel, or school, you may have trouble connecting. Networks at these locations don't always work with SHIELD TV. Contact the people in charge of the Wi-Fi network for assistance.

If your Wi-Fi network does not appear on the SHIELD

If you don't see your Wi-Fi network listed, your network name (SSID) may be hidden.

NOTEIf you are setting up your SHIELD for the first time, when you get to the Wi-Fi network as part of on-screen setup, start at Step 4 below.

Here's how to add a hidden network:

From your SHIELD TV settings, selectNetwork Settings.

    SelectWi-Fi.

    Find or selectAdd new network.

Enter the network name (SSID) and other security details, if needed.

My SHIELD won't connect to Ethernet.

On your SHIELD TV Home screen, check that theNetwork SettingsEthernet symbol appears:.

Check that your Ethernet cable is connected from your SHIELD TV to your router or Ethernet port.

Make sure your Ethernet is enabled in SHIELD networks settings

    GEFORCE NOW ISSUES

Network test detected a "Poor network" or "Network error."

This generally happens because of poor networking. For improving your GeForce NOW experience see this article on improving your network connection.

For an amazing GeForce NOW experience, we recommend the following:

Internet connection with at least a 10 Mbps download speed

Home network with 60 ms or less ping time to a GeForce NOW server.

I have all the requirements to run GeForce NOW. However, sometimes the GeForce NOW network test allows me to play GeForce NOW, and sometimes it doesn't. Why is this?

GeForce NOW performs a network test each time you launch the app to determine your current network performance. There may be problems with your network at different times during the day. You should contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see what you can do to improve it.Also, check to see whether you have an NVIDIA GameStream-Ready 5 GHz Wi-Fi router:

I was idle and GeForce NOW disconnected me from my game. Can I log back onto GeForce NOW and rejoin my game where I left off?

Yes, your last game state will be saved. You can start another game session and load one of your saved games.

Why am I getting a message, "You have reached the session time limit and will be terminated in 5 minutes" when playing GeForce NOW?

GeForce NOW allows you to play a single game session up to 2 hours. After that you will be disconnected from GeForce NOW. If you receive this message we recommend you save your game immediately. You can then start another game session and load one of your saved games.

I'm experiencing a lot of audio cracking, audio cutoff, orvideo stuttering.

Please make sure you meet the network requirements to run GeForce NOW.

Internet connection with at least a 10 Mbps download speed

Home network with 60 ms or less ping time to a GeForce NOW server.

GeForce NOW network test detected a "Poor WiFi" or "Poor WiFi Signal."

This error message indicates some problems with your Wi-Fi router. Here are some suggested steps to improve it:

Make sure you are connecting to your router at 5 GHz mode. Newer routers allow users to connect at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The router's settings menu should allow you to set up a separate SSID for 5 GHz mode.

Use an NVIDIA GameStream-ready 5 GHz Wi-Fi router. These products have been tested to work withGeForce NOW.

Move closer to your Wi-Fi router. The farther away you are from your router, the lower the signal, which will degrade your Wi-Fi performance.

Try to get better line of sight to your router. Obstacles inside your home, such as walls and floors, can affect Wi-Fi performance.

If there is network interruption can I rejoin my game where I left off?

Yes. If you reconnect within five minutes to the GeForce NOW server, you will rejoin your game where you left off.

    OTHER HARDWARE ISSUES

SHIELD System Upgrade failed to install.

If a SHIELD system upgrade fails to install, it may be due to the download of the upgrade image being corrupted. One way to resolve this is to delete the local data for the update fromthe device, forcing it to download a fresh copy. To do so, use any file explorer app (such as ES File Explorer) todelete the OTAfolder located in: Local\NVIDIA\App\OTA. After this folder is deleted, reboot the device, then retry the download and installation of the update.

    SHIELD won't wake up.

If your TV screen is blank, your SHIELD TV may be on, but stuck in sleep mode. You'll see a light on the top of your SHIELD TV if your device is on.

If your SHIELD is not waking up, check your power connections.Unplug your power cable, wait 10 seconds and plug the power cable back into your SHIELD.

My SHIELD ran out of space.

If you have a lot of apps or games on your SHIELD TV, you may run out of storage space. If you are out of space on your device, you'll get a notification the next time you try to install a game or app from the Play Store.

If you run out of space but you'd like to install new apps or games, you have to uninstall some of your other apps or games or elseattach an external hard drive.

Here's how to uninstall apps or games:

On the SHIELD TV Home screen, navigate to your app and press and hold the select button.

Press down on the D-pad until the app hovers over the "uninstall" region.

Press select again to complete the uninstallation.

By default, there is no limit set on how much storage NVIDIA Highlights will use. If you'd like to set a limit so you don't use too much disk space, enable "Disk Space Limit" from the in-game overlay. With the limit enabled, you can only store a maximum of 500MB of video.

Highlights captured on one system are not compatible with the other due to incompatible standards. As an alternative, VLC version 3.0 or later may be used on either system, but you may still encounter window size changes during playback due to resolution changes. This can be prevented in the options for the application or playing the clip in fullscreen.

To minimize the impact of Highlights on the streaming game, we do not transcode the incoming game stream to a constant, fixed resolution. As network conditions change, the Highlights that are generated may contain video resolution switches. The resolution switches will not have any effect when played with the default media player from the operating system they were recorded on, or sharing them on 3rd party upload sites or social media applications.
