Q&A With Omnitracs Employees
IDX: 25 TOT: 47
What unique perks and benefits does Omnitracs provide?
Health care, PTO, retirement, and perks are all at or below the average market in Dallas. Health insurance has one plan, an HSA. PTO is typical 80hr/yr. Retirement is, like 3-5% match in 401k. There is no other perk I'm aware of.
What's the pay like for IT roles at Omnitracs?
Most workers are entry-level, so they get paid poorly, but as new people are coming in, pay is getting better. The parent company has strangled raises and bonuses in order to make the books look good, and people are unhappy about that.
What's the IT team like at Omnitracs?
More leaders are needed and more talent would help a lot. Training is lacking and that means quality suffers.
How's the leadership on the IT team at Omnitracs?
A lot of managers from before the buyout are hopelessly lost and fighting the new way we do things. When they are gone, things will get beter fast.
What's the vibe like in the IT dept at Omnitracs? How many hours are you working?
It depends. Some folks are working 60 hour weeks because the product they work on is falling apart. Others work 10-3 and complain about work/life balance
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Omnitracs?
Get it out from under Vista, who is strangling it. Replace 2/3 of the exec team and suggest the others shape up. Recommit to making quality products that work well for our customers.
What do people at Omnitracs think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
I have seen him once in a year. He has not demonstrable effect on my work and his lack of presence shows. There are management islands throughout the business and other executives operate with so much independence he might as well not be involved. IMHO, he's just a representative of Vista's interests.
How's the work life balance at Omnitracs?
Poor. Staffing is incomplete/poor/low-quality. Projects are stacked up deep and go unfunded, tons of effort is spent trying to keep up with maintaining the status quo rather than improving things.
How does Omnitracs make decisions around promotions?
I haven't seen anyone promoted in a year. Before that, it seems to have been merit+seniority.
How's the vacation policy at Omnitracs?
Typical 80 hours/year with +16 hours "flex" holidays.
