What do people at Optiv Security think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The CEO is a great guy with some difficult decisions ahead of him.
The CEO has to be the nicest, most genuine man associated with this company! Unfortunately, it seems like he’s not willing to make the hard decisions that could make this company great.
He’s genuinely one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He builds relationships well and sets a great example for employees; expresses passion for the corporate mission and expresses belief in his people. He should have more power to effect change; promote from within instead of allowing key reports to hire in (questionably qualified) friends. Needs to show he can put together a strategic plan and what the steps are to execute - instead of the current culture of withheld information (the few senior leaders “in the know” and the rest of us) and rumor mill. Too much and too frequent change. Disjointed leadership team. No known “go to market strategy”; no ability to translate from strategy to tactical execution - in any area of the company. Inconsistent message; we claim to be a services company, but comp plans, marketing budgets, and (lack of) investment in a mature portfolio mgmt lifecycle are demonstrably inconsistent with this high-level “messaging”. Hire a CMO w/Svcs experience.
What part of Optiv Security's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
The IAM division is growing as-is the Managed Services division. Product implementation services are down YoY.
IAM is growing fastest. Regulatory compliance offerings and standard product implementation services are struggling.
MSS next gen SOC operations seems to be growing the fastest. Cloud is struggling; product resale is also struggling.
How's the work life balance at Optiv Security?
Not very balanced.
Work-life balance at Optiv depends on your role. Some roles, it’s reasonable; others, it can be extremely un-balanced and the work can eat your life.
How would you compare interviewing at Optiv Security to other places you've interviewed?
They are disorganized and not good at communicating. Specifically didn’t lay out the hiring process at the start, so felt like interviews kept being “added”.
You have to really want the job to endure some of the practices. Communication isn’t great on the side of the recruiters.
What should I wear for an interview at Optiv Security?
Suit. Can’t go wrong with a suit.
“Client presentable” attire regardless of the role you are actually applying for.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Optiv Security?

First, I would stop the compulsory "must be in the office" mandate for HQ locations. Then, I would start communicating Corp-wide at a regular monthly cadence. We used to have fireside chats; we don't anymore. We need to hear, regularly, from our leadership, what's going on and what our leadership is doing to fix what is broken. Our CEO and COO have been extremely quiet; may have attended sales kickoff and OptivCon, but we didn't hear from them. We need to know that they're doing something other than covering their eyes and ears, hoping things will magically get better. Rumors are they're trying to force PE co to buy them out - so, some days, we (employees) feel adrift, with unattainable goals and no one at the helm.
Some of the C-levels are more interested in building empires than doing what’s right for the company. They need to go.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at Optiv Security?
It would have been really terrible had the hiring manager not kept in contact with me throughout. Others in my peer group at Optiv said that they basically “gutted it out”, but really struggled with lack of communication.
How long do the interviews usually take at Optiv Security?
30 mins to an Hour, depending on whether in-person or remote, and whether it’s the hiring manager, his peers or his boss. Hiring manager will (should) take more time.

Relate past experiences to the role interviewing for.
Who did you meet with during your interview? And how long did it take to hear back from Optiv Security?
Met with hiring manager, a couple of his peers, his manager, and team that I would potentially support.

Depends on the role interviewed for. More technical and specific roles will have more deep-technical and product-specific questions while BusDev roles are more about strategy and building security programs.
What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at Optiv Security?
I was asked to write a paper and give a presentation.

We have a sales team, no true BD function. Sales leadership is new and has yet to demonstrate that he can run a Services-focused Sales team; as, like everyone else in our sr leadership, he comes from a product sales background.
