Patreon's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 220 most popular questions Patreon receives.
We have community guidelines to ensure that Patreon remains a respectful environment for a diverse range of creators and their communities. As we take this very seriously, we ask that you read this whole article before taking action.
Keeping Patreons community safe is important to us, so we hope you report any content that is in violation with our community guidelines.
To report a creator or a post, you will need to be logged into your Patreon account. From there, you have two options:
You can access the reporting tool on any creator page by clicking moreicon (3 dotes icone), then click,Report this creator.

You can also find the report tool on any post that you have access to by clicking directly on the three dots and Report this content.
If prompted in the report, please collect and send us evidence that supports your claims. This evidence can be things like screenshots, links, and videos with timestamps. The Trust and Safety team takes every report seriously, and providing documentation and timestamps will allow them to reach a quicker resolution for the content in question.
Please note that evidence needs to be linked directly to the person you are reporting. For example, we cannot remove a creator based solely on the actions of their patrons, unless they are directly inciting that behavior.
We want you to know that Trust and Safety might not directly share the result of their investigation or any follow up actions that they might consider taking as a result of your report, but we strongly believe that these reports are the best way to create a safe community.
Lastly, we understand that once in a while, you may come across content on Patreon that youdon'tlike or that you disagree with, but that doesnt necessarily mean that the user is violating our guidelines and should be reported. For example, if you are unhappy with the quality of what a creator has produced or the direction their new work is taking, please contact them to discuss the issue via .
That said, Patreons Trust and Safety team will always be happy to review content that raises concerns or goes against our guidelines.

Note:As a creator, if you provide patrons with something in return for their payment (T-shirt, download of music not available to non-patrons, concert tickets, backstage passes, etc) then the patrons tax deduction is limited to the amount of their payment which exceeds the value they received.
Pledges to non-profits

Step 1: Check for any updates for your browser. While older browser version may work, its best to have the most current versions for performance of the site. Once updated, reattempt.

Note:This article will help you locate specific creators on the platform rather than discover new ones. Patreon is a membership platform, not a discovery platform. You can learn more about the strategy behind this decision here.In this article, we'll go over finding creators in these ways:

Using other search engines
Using creator's social media
Using the Search Bar
The Search bar is located on the top right corner of your account. Select the magnifying glass icon to expand the search bar. From here, begin typing the name of your creator.
You will only be able to locate creators with the search bar if you know their creator page name or URL. For example, lets say youre looking for the creator Fran Meneses. You can search for her creator name Fran Meneses and her page will populate. You can also find her by typing in the URL of her creator page, Frannerd.
Note: If a creator has selected that they make adult content, they will not appear in search results on Patreon. This is because of age restrictions. In this situation, using Google or another search engine off of Patreon will help you locate their creator page. Read below for tips on how to locate a creator's page on your preferred search engine.
Using Other Search Engines

What else should I know about my RSS link and feed?
Here are some important things to keep in mind when using your private RSS feed as a patron:
Dont share your private RSS Link! Your Patreon RSS link is specifically for you, as a patron to the creator offering this benefit. It contains an authorization token that links directly to your account. If you share it with anyone, they will have access to the benefits you're paying for - and rob the creator of a potential patron. For this reason, sites and services that share RSS feeds with other users are generally restricted from hosting our feeds. Many are blocked outright. If the feed is found on another site you may have your account blocked.
Some apps will not allow you to add your RSS feed because they don't support authentication on podcasts. As we discover these apps that are not compatible with RSS feeds, we will list them here in the "not working" section below.
There are some apps that require the creators to submit the feeds themselves (and usually pay a fee to do so). These apps will not allow you to add your RSS feed because the Patreon creator, who owns the podcast, has no way to create a feed without authentication.

FAQ
Q: Whycan'tI change the price of a Tier with patrons in it?
While a tier has patrons in it, you cannot edit the tier amount. We do this to prevent confusion. For example, imagine if you edited the $5 tier to the $10 tier - you would either have different patrons paying different amounts for the exact same benefit (not good), or you would raise prices on the $5 patrons without asking (also not good!)
Q: Can I move a patron to another tier?
Not at the moment. Only patrons can edit their membership Tier, so youwon'tbe able to move patrons from no benefit to a Tier on your end.
Feel free to pass along this article from our Help Center to guide patrons through selecting a new Tier:
How do I edit my membership?
Q: Why are some patrons listed under no reward after I deleted a tier?Patrons are never automatically moved into new tiers when you create them as it changes their billing and benefit selections, so they need to change this on their end to be included in anything new. They can edit their payment following these steps.
Q: How do I know if a patron is a no benefit patron? You can use the filters in your Patron Relationship Manager to see whos not currently in a Tier.
To do this select the following from yourfilters
Membership types: Active > All rewards: No Rewards
Q: Whycan'tI save my Tier? Are there patrons in that Tier? If so, youwon'tbe able to change the price of the Tier.
Check to see if you have an extra character in the field where only numbers are allowed (like $.) Try removing any extra characters and saving again.
View ArticleWe continually attempt to charge declined patrons during the month of they decline. Please note that a patron will only ever have one declined bill. If they decline once, we will not continue to charge them for future months.
Instead they will be restricted from viewing patron-only content until they pay for their past due bill. They are essentially not a patron for future months until they've successfully paid the past due bill. Once the membership is paid for, they will regain access to your patron-only feed.
To do our best to collect past due bills we:
Retry processing payments up to six times within the month they declined.
Email patrons to let them know there was an issue with billing and instructions to update their payment info.
Place a banner on their Patreon page prompting them to update payment info
Restrict access to patron only content until past due bills are collected
You can also check the status of your patrons from two places: your patron manager and creator dashboard.
Your Patron Manager lets you view each patron's status and send messages to those who have declined. We automatically email patrons about updating payment information when their payments decline but personal messages can provide a helpful and effective reminder to patrons. If you want to reduce declines, consider sending a personal note.
The Declines section of your Creator Dashboard summarizes your patrons' overall decline rate. It's important to note: if you view this dashboard at the beginning of a month the current month's decline rate typically exceeds the rate from prior months. This is normal. The overall decline rate is typically high in the first few days of the month, and falls over time as we retry payments and encourage patrons to update their payment methods.
If you feel a patron is evading payment, you can also block them, which will remove their pledge to you and prevent them from messaging you, accessing your patron only content, or pledging to you again in the future.

View ArticleVAT on Patreon is determined by the country of residence they've selected in their Profile settings or by the patronlocation at the time of making a subscription .
If you should not be charged VAT, you can learn how to ensure you are not charged VAT moving forward, here.
To learn the basics of VAT, we first recommend checking out these helpful starter articles:
What is VAT?
VAT - Supplying Digital Services To Private Consumers
How does Patreon handle VAT?
This is general information on VAT and how we handle it on Patreon. For more info and advice on your specific situation, we recommend you talk with a tax advisor or local tax authority.
VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption-based tax thats assessed on the value added to goods and services -- including digital. Its charged as a percentage of price (so on Patreon, a $1.00 pledge with 23% VAT will have a final cost of $1.23).
Starting in 2015, the European Union changed regulations for how VAT is calculated on sales of digital services. It is now determined by the location of the consumer, not the location of the business. This also applies to independent content creators like the ones on Patreon.
Instead of putting the burden on Patreon creators to collect and calculate VAT chargeable to EU-based patrons, Patreon will handle it. We will automatically present and collect VAT at the applicable rate from EU-based patrons, and we will also take care of the filing and remittance of VAT payments made by patrons for digital services provided by our creators through Patreon. Creators, whenever you see your patrons payments, account balances, etc. on Patreon, VAT chargeable to patrons for digital services has already been deducted.
For creators based in the EU, you will not need to remit VAT charged to Patrons for digital services on your Patreon page because we are handling that for you. If your rewards include physical goods or other things besides digital services we recommend you consult with a local tax advisor or local tax authority for information on the VAT due for those goods. We also recommend that you consult with a tax advisor or local tax authority to confirm that by using the Patreon platform you will not be required to register for and collect VAT.
So in short -- creators, don'tworry about collecting VAT from Patrons -- weve got you covered and are handling everything automatically, behind the scenes.
Heres an example of how EU-based patrons will see what VAT is to be charged before they make a pledge:

What if I'm required to keep track of VAT my patrons pay?
In addition to VAT in the EU, some countries may assess a VAT or sales tax on your income based on the physical location of your patrons. It has been reported to us, for example, that Canada and Norway both do this. Please check with your local authorities for information or if this is a requirement.

VAT is determined by the location you indicate as your Country of Residence on your Profile settings page. If no location has been set, your location when you either create a new membership or edit your existing membership is used.

FAQ
Q: Why did my payment decline?
A: The most common reasons are expired payment information, mis-entered payment details, insufficient funds, or in some cases, the issuing bank has blocked the charge. You'll want to reach out to your bank or PayPal directly to make sure everything is accurate and nothing is blocking the charge.
If your payment is declining, you'll want to reach out to your bank and ask that they accept all future charges from Patreon*Membershipmoving forward.
Q: Will you retry my payment?
A: We automatically retry declined membership payments, so if your payment method is in good standing, you will receive another email notifying you of a successful charge within a day or two. If you'd like to speed up the process, you also have the option of clicking retry from your billing history once you update your payment details.
Q: What if PayPal declines?
A: If your membership payment declines via PayPal, reach out to PayPal to ensure nothing is blocking payments to your creator(s).
If you've filed PayPal dispute with Patreon in the past, you'll need to update your PayPal wallet to use a different funding source for future Patreon payments. Filing a dispute with PayPal for a charge revokes our access to process payments on that PayPal funding source.
Note:Its important to note that while you have a declined payment for a creator, you will not have access to their patron-only content until you resolve that payment.

Are you a per creation creator? Check out this article to see how to bill your patrons for your posts, As a per creation creator, how will my patrons be billed?
The post creator is where youll make decisions about when your post will be published and who gets to see your post. In your post creator you can also add tags to help patrons navigate your content, attach files for patrons to download, and add teaser text to convert followers into patrons on social media.
Your posts that are Patrons onlywill be visible to any patron who pays you monthly (or per creation), including those not in a a tier.
Creators in our Pro, and Premium platform plans, you can control which patrons see your Posts! Howdo I set access to my posts?
Make a post by selecting New in the Posts section of your left-handnavigation bar.On the right-hand side of your post editor, youll see the option to make your postPublic, visible to All patrons (including patrons not in a tier), orSelect Tiers.
If you are in our Pro, or Premium platform plans, and want your post accessible only by patrons in specific tiers, choose Select Tiers. Youll see all of your tiers appear. Deselect any Tiers that will not have access by default, all Tiers will be selected when you choose Select Tiers.
Heres what your post will look like after it's published:
Learn more about how to make a post here.
Why is posting for Select Tiers helpful?
It gives you more control over which patrons see your posts. When you publish posts by Tiers, rather than dollar amount, you can post exclusively to patrons in one tier, instead of that tier and everyone above it.
Higher-paying patrons won't be spammed with notifications for posts for lower Tiers.
Do you have multiple projects, and want to offer different benefits at the same tier level? Youll have the option to offer content to multiple tiers at the same price. So you can have two $5 tiers offering completely different benefits.
You'll can easily view all of your patrons organized into the tier that corresponds with their payment level within the Relationship managerso no more guess work on what posts different patrons can view!
What does this mean for patrons?
The most important thing this means is: if you publish content for Select Tiers, patrons will need to be in that Tier (not just paying the dollar amount) in order to have access.
If you selectPublic, anyone can see your posts even ifthey'renot a patron.
If you select AllPatrons, all of your paying patrons will see your post, regardless of the tier they are in, even if they selected"no reward" when they signed up.
If you SelectTiers, then only the patrons in the tiers you selectwill see your posts. That means patrons who selected"No rewards" when they pledged are not actually in a tier, andwon'tsee your post unless they update their membership with you. And patrons who are paying a higher dollar amount than the tier they signed up for will only see the post if its available to their tier.
If you have patrons in the "no reward" tier, or patrons who are pledging more than the tierthey'resigned up for, we suggest you reach out to them to inform them that they may not have access to all your posts.
You can use the filter options (No reward) in your Relationship Manager to select these patrons and send them a group message. Learn how to message multiple patrons in the patron relationship manager here.

Do you have a payout method?
Have you added a payout method to your account? Youll want to ensure that information has been updating to begin receiving payouts! To check this, navigate to your payout preferences and make sure that you have entered a valid checking or Paypal account in order toreceive payment.
At the top of this page, you'll see your total accountbalance, which you can manuallypay out at any time using the "pay out total balance" button. Please note that you can pay out once every 24 hours.
If it's been more than 3 days since you sent your payout through Stripe -update your bank information!
Payments can be delayed in Stripe for two reasons: holidays and incorrect account information.
If you've already connected a bank account, re-add your account and routing numbers onPatreon once more. Stripe will automatically send failed transfers to theupdated bank information within 1-3 business days.
If you're using Paypal, double check the Paypal email you have connected to your account. If the information is incorrect, send us a note so we can assist using this form.
For U.S. direct deposit with Stripe, Patreon does not store any account details, except to show you the bank name and last 4 digits of the account number you have linked.
Note: Make sure youaren'ttrying to transfer money to a savings accountit doesn't work.
Have your pledges processed?
Hop over to your patron relationship manager, where you'll see all of your paid posts and patrons currently pledging to you. You will only receive payouts to your account if you have patrons actively pledging to you. If you are on a "per post" page, your patrons would have needed to be pledging to you before you posted a paid post; if you are on a monthly, they will have needed to join before we started processing payments on the 1st of the month.
If you have declined patrons, you will not receive their payment until their payment clears.
Is there a temporary hold on your account?
To ensure the security of your account, and make sure YOU are the one collecting your earnings, we sometimes need to place a temporary hold on your payouts.
You should receive a notification as well as an email when this happens, so if you haven't seen either, this is probably not the issue. If you see a notification letting you know the time and date you can pay out your funds, this means that you are within 24 hours of the last time you manually paid out.
A payout lock will be lifted after 5 days, at which time youll be able to manually pay out any funds from your account.
Are you pledging to other creators?
We use the balance in your account to cover any pledges you have to other creators, so if the amount you are paying other creators is more than you are collecting for your page, you will not see a positive balance in your account. You can check this within your Dashboard here.
And finally. if unsure, contact your bank!
If your payment info was entered incorrectly, or your bank may have reversed the payout or sent it to another account. You can reach out to your bank to see if thats the case.

View ArticleIs nudity allowed on Patreon?
Nudity and the human body has been part of art since the very beginning of our history. It is so intertwined that we would never even think to ask whether or not the David would be allowed on Patreon.
Nudity is allowed on Patreon as long as it is flagged accordingly:
If you are planning on posting nudity on your page, please mark your page as adult content. The same logic applies if your project changes with time. You can read more about how to mark yourself as an adult content creator here: Should my creator page be marked as adult content?
Content with mature themes should be marked as Patron Only. This means that you cannot post nudity in public areas including your profile picture, banner, tier images or about me section.
What does Patreon consider to be nudity or mature themes?
When looking at content and how it should be flagged, wedon'tfactor in artistic merit and try as much as possible to stay away from bias. You should make sure that both nudity and implied nudity such as the gimmicky censorship of breasts and genitals, sheer/see-through clothing, and overly sexual poses are always marked as adult.
Please note that this list is not exhaustive as we also review for context.
Other things to note:
While we allow nudity and for creators to push the boundaries of art, we also have guidelines against funding pornography on patreon. In our community guidelines:We define pornographic material as real people engaging in sexual acts such as masturbation or sexual intercourse on camera.
If you ever have doubts about whether one of your posts is starting to cross the line towards content we would consider pornographic, please contact us.

View ArticleFirst off, worry not! We give creators the option to pause their creator page if theydon'twant to charge their patrons for an upcoming month.
Creators may pause their creator page for multiple reasons. Maybe they are on vacation or didnt have enough time to make a post this month. We encourage creators to share with patrons why they might pause their page so it might be best to check to see if they made a post about it. If you're concerned that there might be a gap in benefits, feel free to send your creator a message directly.
For now you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a little savings this month.Your pledge will continue next month automatically.
View ArticlePatreon is amembership platform that makes it easy for creators to get paid.
For creators, Patreon is a way to get paid for creating the things yourealreadycreating(webcomics, videos, songs, whatevs). Fans pay a few bucks per month ORper postyou release, and then you get paid every month, or every time you release something new. Learn more about becoming a creator on Patreon HERE.
For patrons, Patreon is a way to join your favorite creator's community and pay them for making the stuff you love. Instead ofliterallythrowing money at your screen(trust us, that doesnt work), you can now pay a few bucksper monthorper postthat a creator makes. For example, if you pay $2 per video, and the creator releases 3 videos in February, then your card gets charged a total of $6 that month. This means the creator gets paid regularly(every time she releases something new), and you become a bonafide, real-life patron of the arts. Thats right--Imagineyou, in a long frilly white wig, painted on a 10-foot canvas on the wall of a Victorian mansion. Uploading a video URL
Can I upload videos directly from my device?
Patreon does not host video content directly on our site, so you'll want to upload your video to a hosting site before posting it on Patreon. Many creators use YouTube, or Vimeo as their third party video hosting sites.
You can upload a video link to a Video Post, and it will appear as the main body of your post in a player box. Here's how:
Log in and clickNew under yourPostsection.
Choose the newVideopost option.
Add your URL in to the link field, and you'll see a preview of your video appear.
Don't forget to add your Title, and short summary of what you're posting before publishing.
Note: We use embed.ly for all embedded Video Posts. You can test your URL, here to ensure that your video will post properly. Add your URL into the field, and click the arrow to the right. If you see an error in the type field, your URL will not post, and youll want double check your link.
What should my privacy settings be on my videos?
Ultimately, only you can decide what level of security you want for your videos. With that said, there are some basic settings that we recommend on YouTube, and Vimeo to ensure that your videos will play on.
YouTube
If you're using YouTube as your 3rd party hosting site, there are a few settings you can enable to ensure that patrons can view your videos on desktop, and on the Patreon app. With YouTube, we recommend publishing your video as Unlisted. Additionally, there are a couple of YouTube default Advanced settings that you'll want to keep as-is.
Keep theLicense and rights ownership field on the defaultStandard YouTube License. If you change this, your videos will not play on Desktop or on the app for patrons.
In theDistribution optionssetting be sure to leaveAllow embedding checked.
As quick tool, your YouTube video advanced settings should look like this:
Note: If you're seeing that your video is "Unavailable" on the app in particular, you'll want to double check your licensing on YouTube. YouTube may add additional copyright licensing to a video that uses music from different artists. This license prevents embedded players within apps from playing these videos outside of their own app, or website. You can learn more about music in videos hosted by YouTube, here.
Vimeo
When editing the privacy settings for your videos on Vimeo, there are few things we recommend doing to ensure that your videos play for your patrons when viewed on desktop, and the Patreon app.
1. In theWho can watch?field, be sure to select either:Anyone, orPeople with the private link. Selecting different options may result in errors for patrons.
2. In theWhere can this be embedded? field of your Vimeo privacy settings. We recommend allowing embeddingAnywhere. That said, we totally understand that you want to keep your videos secure. If you select the option to allow embeddingonly onSpecific domains, you'll want to add www.patreon.com as a domain (click the + sign to add it).
Here's what if will look like once you've givenpatreon.com permission to embed your video. Once added, it will appear under the field where you can remove the permission by clicking the "x".
To learn more about Vimeo's privacy settings head on over, here.
Attaching a video file to a Post
You can attach a video file to any Post type directly from your device.
Thiswon'tappear as a video player in the main body of your post, but it will appear as a link at the bottom of your post. Patrons can then click on the link to download your video file. To attach your video file, click theUpload option near the bottom of the Post creator/editor.
What file types can I attach to Video Posts?
Your video file must be 200 MB, or less, and in one of the following file formats:.mov, .gif, .mp4, .m4a, .mpeg, .ogg, and .gif
Youll know that your file is attached when the upload arrow is gone and you see your file listed at the bottom of the post.
How do I make a Post for certain patrons only?
Note:Ifyou'veindicate that you create Adult Content, your Posts will default to Patrons Only. If you did not indicate that your create Adult Content, your Posts will default to Public.
Creators on our Pro, and Premium platform plans, can publish postsfor Select Tiers. To do this use the drop-down under Who can see this post? on the right-hand side of the screen. The content of your Post will only be accessed by patrons within the Tiers you've selected.
Note:If youre a per creation creator, you cannot simultaneously charge patrons and make a Post only for certain patrons. You can find more information about how Posts work a little differently for you, .
View ArticleWe understand that some months you get busy and might not be able to make a post. Or maybe you're taking a well-deserved vacation and don't want to charge your patrons while you're away. When this happens, you can choose to pause your creator pagefor one month. Your patrons will see a banner on your page letting them know that you have paused. If you are not sure youll be ready to be back in action after one month, please re-pause your page monthly until you are ready to do so. Please note that when you pause a billing cycle, you will not be able to bill for that cycle again.
Please be aware that if you unpublish your creator page and later relaunch it, you will be subject to Patreons current pricing at the time you relaunch. Learn more about turning off your creator page HERE.
Please note that if you are a Charge Up Front creator, it will still bill your patrons as they have access to your previous posts as soon as they become a patron.
Depending on how youre charging your patrons, there are a few different ways to go about this:
If youre a per creation creator, you can simply stop publishing paid posts during your hiatus. You may want to post a note, or send a message to your Patrons keep your biggest fans in the loop!
If youre billing your patrons on a monthly basis, you have the option to pause your creator page, your patrons won't be charged during the next billing cycle and your creator page will automatically resume (un-pause) on the 2nd of the following month. We will send a reminder email out to you at the beginning of each month reminding you to pause your page again if you are not ready to come back.
Example: On January 20th, you realize you didn't make a post at all in January and you don't want your patrons to be charged on February 1st. Instead of reverting your account to a "patron-only" account, you can pause your creator page to ensure your patrons are not charged on February 1st. On February 2nd your creator page will automatically un-pause and normal billing will continue in March.

View ArticleIf you canceled your membership and were still billed, there are a couple of reasons why this occurred. In this article we will cover the following:
Payments to a per-post creator
Payments to a monthly creator
I'm a patron of a per-post creator and was billed after canceling my membership.
One possibility is you had a pending payment. If you are a patron of a per-post creator, you are billed every time they make a paid post and you have an active membership.
Even ifyou canceled your membership before the start of the pay cycle (the 1st of the month), pending payments are still process. This is because it is a charge for content you already received.
If you're uncertain whether or not you have any pending payments due, check outyour billing history page. If any paid posts were created while you're a patron, you'll see them listed here!
You will also notice a total amount. The total will show as pending for per-post payments in your billing historybeforeyou are charged.
For example: You're a $1 patron of a per-post creator. They make a paid post on July 9th while you're a member. You'll see this populate in your billing history as a pending payment. On July 20th, you cancel your membership and are immediately billed $1 for the paid post.
I'm a patron of a monthly creator and was billed after cancelling my membership.
If you cancelled your membership to a monthly creator before the payment cycle begins (the 1st of the month) and are charged later in the month, it is likely your payment initially declined.
We bill all patrons with an active membership on the 1st of each month, Pacific Standard Time (PST). If you cancel your membership at any point on the 1st of the month (PST), we've already billed your account, and it will be processed.
When the 1st of the month rolls around, we begin to process all payments. If your payment does not process on the 1st, we will continually attempt to bill you.If you update your payment method or get enough funds in your account to cover the charge, we reattempt your payment. For example: You're a patron of a monthly creator. We bill you on March 1st for your membership and it declines. You cancel your membership on March 2nd. We continually attempt to bill you for this past declined bill. You later have enough funds in your account on March 5th to cover the payment when we run your card on the 5th, it processes.
You'll be able to see if you have any past declined payments in your billing history.

Paid posts
The only way that your patrons will be charged on the 1st of the month is if you publish your creations aspaid posts.Whether youre creating, illustrations, videos, or podcast episodes, you must publish your content as a paid post to get paid.Paid posts can be forallpatrons, or publicthere is currently no way to post content for specific tiersandcharge your patrons. You can read more about the different ways to make posts as a per creation creator, here.
Patrons are not charged immediately when you make a paid post
When you make apaid post, a pending bill is placed on your patrons accounts. Then on the 1st of the following month, we attempt to charge your patrons for any pending bills.
Patrons can set a monthly maximum
Your patrons are billed their pledge for each paid posts that you make in a given monthup to their monthly max. Patrons can set a monthly maximum of posts that they we will be billed forthis ensures that patronsaren'tcharged more than they can pay to support you. You can read more about setting a monthly max, here.
What if my patron cancels their membership?
If your patron deletes their pledge before the 1st of the month, we will attempt to charge them for any pending bills as soon as they delete.
Example: Lets say Patron A pledges to you on March 5th at your $3.00 tier level with a monthly max of 3 creations. Patron A will have access to your back catalog of paid posts, patron only posts, $3.00 tier level, and of course your public posts. They have not yet been billed. If between March 5th(when your patron pledged) and March 31st you make 5 paid posts, Patron A will be charged $9.00 on April 1st. If Patron A deletes their pledge on March 20th, andyou'vemade 2 paid posts since they created their pledge, well attempt to charge them $6.00 on March 20th.
Monthly charging method
This is the payment method currently used by the majority of creators on Patreon. With this method, once a patron pledges to you, they instantly get access to your back catalogofcontentand are charged for the months pledgeon the 1st of thefollowingmonth.
Example: A new patron pledges to you on March 5th. Once they complete their pledge they can see your posts for their tier levelthey can comment and engage with yourcommunity. They are charged on April 1st for their March pledge to you.
What if my patron deletes their pledge?
Your patron will lose access to your patron only content as soon as they delete their pledge. They will not be able to comment on any posts, or interact with yourcommunity page.
Monthly with Charge up front
You, as a creator, charge your patrons as soon as they pledge to you. This up front charge grants your patrons access to your back catalog of patron only content(for their tier) as well as all content made inthatmonth. Your patrons are then charged on the 1st of each month thereafter forthatmonths access.
What if my patron cancels their membership?
If a patron deletes their pledge any time prior to the 1st of the upcoming month, they will still have access your patron only content(for their tier) for the remainder of the month. This means that they will still be able to view and comment on your posts as well as interact with your community page. Once the new billing cycle begins on the 1st of the following month, they instantly lose access to your patron only content, can no longer view or comment on your patron only posts, and will not be able to engage on your community page.
What if my patron increases their payment amount in the middle of the month?
If a patron of your increases their pledge in the middle of the month, they will immediately be charged the difference between their previous pledge and their new pledge amount. On the 1st of the upcoming month, they are then charged their new pledge amount forthatmonth.
Example: A new patron pledges to your $5.00 tier on March 5th, and they are charged $5.00 as soon as they complete their pledge. They then have access to your content, can view and comment on your posts as well as interact with your community page. Come April 1st, they are charged their total pledge and this gives them access for the entirety ofthatmonth.
Important Note: Payments processing on the 1st of the month typically completes within 24-48 hours, you can read more about that process, here.
