What are your coworkers at Pluralsight like?
Top Employee Response
They are the best people in the world.
Friendly, Cooperative, Helpful, Driven, Go-getters, Brilliant... I can go on and on. By far the best co-workers I have ever worked beside.
Collaborative, positive, and engaged
What interview questions does Pluralsight ask?
Top Employee Response
Depends on the role you are applying for. I would definitely be sure to come prepared by knowing about the company culture and mission/values.
What are you looking for in your next role? What's important to you in your next job and the company you chose?
Skills fit is important, but I believe questions are more geared towards potential impact fit/values match more than anything.
How common are layoffs at Pluralsight?
Top Employee Response
Common for acquired businesses 18 months after the purchase. Poor severance.
I have only seen layoff occur on the CDE team.
Infrequent, and when they happen, they happen with the highest degree of sensitivity and respect for those impacted.
What do people at Pluralsight think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
Everyone likes Aaron and his transparency
He's super inspiring and authentic. Many are impressed with how intentional he is to catering messages to the entire Pluralsight office, and some that have been at the company much longer miss having a CEO that said "whatever came to mind" since they were small enough to make quick decisions and for the CEO to truly know his audience. I personally appreciate the effort Aaron puts into being a better and better leader for all of us at Pluralsight and believe there's balance in crafting a message and still being authentic while doing it.
Feelings are mixed. Some think Aaron can do no wrong. Some think he is fake and untrustworthy.
How's the work life balance at Pluralsight?
Very good. I don't feel like I have to respond the minute an email or a slack comes in. Everyone is respectful of your time outside of the office.
Extremely possible for everyone.
There is no work life balance for many despite the best of intentions. It's fun often rewording and creative work but it is work that consumes the personal life and relationships.
How does Pluralsight make decisions around promotions?
It's based on individual performance + company need for the role
It doesn't just matter who can get the job done, it very much matters how they respect those around them and show up to work every day.
Have no idea. It is secretive. They usually hire outside the company I've noticed, usually men, though the talk is they want to change that.
How's the vacation policy at Pluralsight?
Very good. It's unlimited PTO within reason.
I love that it's unlimited, and I don't believe this prevents me from taking the time I need to rest and recover. Some people believe in that philosophy when it comes to unlimited time off, but I believe people just do that to themselves. At Pluralsight everyone is given the freedom to speak up when they need time, because it's a safe environment and isn't cut-throat.
Great! Unlimited PTO! The thing is...people rarely take it. In my department, there was this unspoken pressure or feeling that we had to be seen at the office working and that we had to perform. There are some I know who haven't taken an actual vacation in years...just one off days here and there when sick. I think they would take a vacation though if it were labeled as vacation or encouraged by leadership to do so.
What part of Pluralsight's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Sales is growing really quickly. We need to make sure that the Development teams keep growing and that we have good talent in place to keep up in the mkt.
Sales! And...sales.
We are growing like a true mid-western on a fast-food diet--our middles are growing fast. There are too many middle managers, not a lot of workers who create stuff and not a lot of deciders at the top.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Pluralsight?
We need to keep hiring toward our mission and our values. Having those here with similar values and being bought in on what we are doing here, will keep the culture going.
I'd love for the leadership team to get realllllly good at communicating changes/transitions. This would ease a lot of side-talk and confusion for many.
This company is dominated by white men. Yes, they've given select women some token promotions. And I guess that counts for something. But I'd like to see more of an effort than that and the photographer asking the women to stand front and center in all the company photographs.
When submitting a resume for a position at Pluralsight - is there a preferred format that is more favoured? EG Length, style, tone?
Due to the high volume of resumes we receive, it's always beneficial to make sure your resume is clear, concise, and powerfully demonstrates your ability to do the job to which you are applying. Stick to one page if you can, highlight your applicable skills, and convey your excitement to join this amazing company!
I'm not sure if there's a preferred way to submit to be honest, but as a general rule of thumb, I'd recommend PDF format and as short, concise and effective as possible.
What benefits does Pluralsight provide?
In addition to unlimited PTO, they pay our insurance premiums on medical, vision, and dental for myself and my family. That's huge and an excellent benefit. We also get RSU's, everyone loves having an ownership stake in the company.
100% medical, dental and vision benefits paid. Unlimited vacation. LIKE WHAT
What would cause you to leave your job at Pluralsight?
If the culture were to change and/or Aaron were to leave.
The CEO stepping down or the company having to lay people off and handling it in a poor way.
How often do raises happen at Pluralsight?
Yearly based on performance
Quarterly.
How common is it to switch departments or teams at Pluralsight?
Not common, I see more movement within their own teams.
Pretty common. We encourage people to stay within their team for at least a year before switching, but the company is really open to people bringing their skills to new teams.
How rewarding is your job at Pluralsight?
Very, I see the impact of what I do. Especially towards our 20/20 Vision and quarterly rocks.
I can't imagine doing anything else!
How do you feel about going to work at Pluralsight everyday?
I'm excited and glad to be a part of this company
I love it.
What kind of people succeed at Pluralsight?
Those that are self motivated, honest, hard working, and collaborative. And those that are working towards our mission and value our values.
The ones that are true to their word and put the mission before personal gain.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at Pluralsight?
Top Employee Response
Be others-focused and have high self-awareness.
Understand their values and mission statement
How secure do you feel at your job at Pluralsight?
Very secure. I have transparent conversations with my Leader and if there are any issues, it's brought up and dealt with.
100%
What's the best part of your job at Pluralsight?
Being able to work autonomously and not being micromanaged. Being able to see that we are making a difference in the world and making opportunities available for everyone.
Getting to make a real impact on those around me to keep a healthy, thriving work culture.
How do you feel about Pluralsight's future?
Very good. I think we will go public and I think we will continue to add new features (such as Iris and Pluralsight One)
Confident. Extremely confident.
How's the work pace at Pluralsight?
It's fast, but not unmanageable.
Medium fast paced. No one is walking around stressed and frazzled.
How challenged are you at Pluralsight?
You are challenged in your own thought process and to look at things in a different light. You are challenged to stretch both personally and professionally out of your comfort zone.
Challenged a healthy amount. I've learned more at this company about myself and how to be a better person than at any other company.
What's the interview process like at Pluralsight?
It's quicker than most companies with the exception sometimes of the final interview. At the C Level, the schedules are tighter and harder to lock down. If delays come in, that's when they occur.
Thorough. Phone screening with a recruiter always happens first, then at least one in-person interview will take place for in-office positions. Sometimes numerous remote interviews are conducted for remote employees before hire.
How's the feedback proccess at Pluralsight?
It's authentic, it's real, and it's given in real time.
I've experienced direct, open communication with my leader at Pluralsight. I don't wonder "how I'm doing" or if I'm meeting expectations since we create clear agreements on what needs to be accomplished. I believe we have some strong leaders that are capable of radical candor, but there are a handful of people that don't experience Pluralsight the way I do based on their leader's ability to provide direct feedback.
