The leadership team at RealSelf is amazing. They are open to ideas and they really do try to think through what we can and cannot do. They are realistic but always try to do something at least once. Since coming to RealSelf I feel heard and want to continue to learn and grow from them.

The team is knowledgable and forward thinking, but still highly values a work life balance.

Approachable, reasonable, rational, generous, and genuine.

They are open to feedback and take action when they can.

Leadership at RealSelf is always transparent with where we are at and where we are going. They take the advice and suggestions of everyone in the company and support all of those around them within each department.

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Accept diversity in thoughts, not just race

Communication. Culture. Stopping fighting amongst themselves. Make a decision that sticks instead of requiring it to go through 7 layers execs and ending with no clear direction at the end of it. Trust your staff to do good work.

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Compensation Reviews

The health benefits are amazing. They are not overly priced for the quality of health insurance that you have. If you are the only person on your health insurance they pay your premiums for you. If you have a family, it is a lot less out of my pocket each month than any other place I have been at.

Compensation is on par with comparable companies with a few added benefits, such as $25 a month for home office expenses, $40/month for wellness.

Generous 401K matching. Good healthcare.

The paid time off. You get 4 weeks.

The commission structure gives extremely high rewards to hard efforts.

What are some of the best things about your team?

Team Reviews

Good people, empathetic, understanding, earnest, ambitious

They are open to new ideas, they listen and we are collaborative. They make coming to work enjoyable every day, even on harder days.

More diverse than other technology companies I have worked for including a far higher percentage of female engineers than my last company

No a-hole policy. Collaboration is rewarded.

They are open to feedback and care about making work fun.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Team Reviews

Accountability and teamwork. Professionalism. Skillset. Not accusing others on their own team. Supporting eachother. A more streamlined process for working accounts and working together. More opportunities for facetime, team bonding, events during the work week.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

It is very casual for the most part and outside of our department there are many fun channels and groups to join on Slack.

Empathetic, encouraging, kind, trying to be diverse

The company is very open with the employees on the state of the business, new things we are trying and how they are performing, and what we need to be successful. Nothing feels like it is being hidden.

Inclusion and transparency. Team focuses on the outcomes, not the individuals.

The company went full remote during covid and has been working hard to keep the team connected through monthly events. People here are hard working and care.

What needs to change to make the company culture better?

The company culture has changed a lot over the last 12 months. This is often put down to "staff not being able to change with the new direction." However, this is generally a cop out by the exec team. There are plenty of companies who have fast growth and are successful at retaining great culture.

What did you like most about the interview process?

Very friendly and had the chance to meet multiple mamagers to get a feel for the company.

Timely, respectful, not unnecessarily challenging, wants cultural fit

The constant communication with the recruiters. Sometimes you can interview with a company and the recruiters dont ever get back to you or take weeks. It seemed like there was at least weekly communication through the whole process.

Interviewers had empathy and know coding exercises are a different from working as an engineer

I got to meet the full team, including future reports.

What makes you most happy at work?

Having a work place that trusts what I am doing every day. It is very nice to have round ups and to go over projects but for the most part they just trust me and let me try new things.

The people I work with, and the ability to think big (with the resources to go after these ideas)

The support from my leadership team. I haven't worked for a company before the believes in me and praises me quite like RealSelf has. It's a phenomenal feeling.

Discovery is poor, better investment in tech

Shake up the executive team and invest in leaders that know how to empower and aid in staff growth. Look at the general decline in Glassdoor ratings and instead of going on the defensive, learn from it and fix what's happening to the company. Learn to appreciate staff and listen to their feedback.
