Reverb's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 305 most popular questions Reverb receives.
When you're buying an item on Reverb, you're buying that item from an individual seller who has listed their item for sale on our site. While Reverb works diligently to review the integrity and quality of the listings on our platform, Reverb is not the seller. This means that it's essential to ask good questions and review all the details of the item in terms of shipping, form of payment and condition of the instrument before making your purchase.
Never fear! If something goes wrong with your order, Reverb can step in to resolve any issues that may arise tomake things right. We take good care of our customers, and always do our best to ensure both buyer and seller walk away happy. Once you're ready to buy an item, just click the "Add to Cart" or "Make an Offer" button to get started!

View ArticleWhile there is no official way to pay using two cards on the site, we do understand that not all purchases can always be made with one card. By utilizing our Reverb Bucks, we have provided our buyers the ability to split payments on Reverb Payments orders.
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to make this happen:
1. Purchase a Reverb Gift Card with credit card A
2. Redeem those Reverb Bucks to your Reverb account
3. Checkout using Reverb Payments
4. Your Reverb Bucks will automatically be applied to your purchase
5. Use credit card B to pay for the balance not covered by the Reverb Bucks
Please keep in mind, the Reverb Bucks will not be able to be combined or used with PayPal or Affirm purchases, so they will need to be used with another valid credit/debit card to complete the purchase through Reverb Payments.

I live in one of these states. Why am I seeing taxes?
More states have passed similar laws, and we will be updating our platform to handle those states in the future. We’ll let you know when states are added.
Prior to the Supreme Court South Dakota v. Wayfair decision in 2018, it was unconstitutional for states to charge sales tax against individuals or companies who didn’t have a physical presence or location in the state. In Wayfair, the Supreme Court replaced the “physical presence” requirement with an “economic presence” requirement.
How does that matter for marketplaces?
One way “economic presence” is created in a state is when selling through a digital marketplace like Reverb, eBay, Etsy, Amazon, etc. (“Marketplace States”).
That means when someone who lives in a state with a marketplace tax law makes a purchase on a marketplace like Reverb, tax must be paid on that sale.
Why are states changing their laws?
With the change in federal precedent, states are hoping to bring in more revenue through taxes on their residents’ online purchases. Marketplaces are just one way they can do this.
I want to sell on Reverb. How do marketplace and other tax laws impact me?
Check out our article made to help sellers with the changes.
If you are tax exempt as a buyer relating to the Wayfair changes you can email [email protected]. Attach your 501(c)(3) letter or reseller certificate to the email and we will get this setup for you!
*Seller has collected the simplified sellers use tax on taxable transactions delivered into Alabama and the tax will be remitted on the customer’s behalf to the Alabama Department of Revenue. Seller’s program account number is SSU-R010560295
View ArticleSo you've taken some great photos, written an epic description and are just about ready to hit "submit" on your new Reverb listing. But what's this? You don't know what to choose where it sayscondition.
Fear not. Reverb has eight different designations to describe condition, from Brand New on the top all the way down to Non-functioning. Think of it as a 1 to 9 scale. We've put together some general guidelines to explain what each condition means and to help you find the right category for your gear.
shop Parts to help you fix it!
Brand New:
Brand New condition is for products listed by authorized dealers that are in the same flawless condition as they were when they left the factory floor, and are covered under the manufacturer’s original limited warranty.
If you are not an authorized dealer, you cannot list brand new unless you handmade the item yourself. If you are reselling a piece of gear that you bought brand new from a retailereven if it has never been usedit automatically falls under the Mint condition since it may no longer be covered by the manufacturer’s original warranty.
B-Stock:
B-Stock refers to items that were opened and returned, have a cosmetic blemish or imperfection (like a ding in the tolex of an amp or a scratch on the face of an effects pedal), or were used as demo units in a shop. These products are tested to manufacturer's specs and are guaranteed to function perfectly. Many B-Stock items come with a limited manufacturer’s warranty and ship direct from a brand or distributor who sells on Reverb.
Synonyms: Like New, Open Box, Closeout, Customer Return, Blemished, Resealed
Mint
For something to truly be mint, it needs to be just shy of Brand New. Mint items should include the original packaging in most cases. If there's any sort of imperfection, the item should be listed in Excellent condition at best.
Excellent
When something's been used a bit but is still close to new, you can file it under Excellent. For modern gear, Excellent items are almost entirely free of blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care. For vintage items, there may be some marks here and there, but the item is still in the top echelon when compared to similar examples. All Excellent items should be 100\% functional in every way.
Very Good
Very Good describes items with more cosmetic imperfections than Excellent but is still in great condition overall. With a Very Good guitar, for example, you might find some scratches, buckle rash, or other minor blemishes but nothing that affects the playability or function of the instrument.
Good
Good condition includes items that are in fine working order but have some visual imperfections here and there. A pedal with scratches and dents on its chassis, a guitar with some cracks in the binding, or maybe an old snare drum with some corrosion on the lugs could all be classified as Good. All of these items work just fine but have enough visual imperfections to only be in the middle of the scale.
Fair
This would be where the various nicks and blemishes start to actually impact the function of the item. Fair items mostly work fine but maybe have some minor functional issues. Say you've got an old archtop that's totally playable but has some neck warping that render some dead spots on the upper registers. This could be considered Fair.
Poor
Poor condition items have definite functional problems that will usually require some sort of repair. Perhaps this is an old acoustic guitar where the action is so high, it's practically unplayable. Maybe it's a keyboard where some of the keys just don't work. It could be an amp that powers on, but doesn't generate any real volume.
Non-functioning
This would be for instruments and other gear that simply do not work. It could be a guitar with an entirely broken neck, or maybe a mixing board that won't power up. Keep in mind, there are still plenty of buyers out there who are in the market for project guitars and other fixer-upper items.
If you're one of those buyers, check out our Project Gear Handpicked Collection. Once you pick your project,
Other Condition Considerations
Condition and the factors that determine it are, of course, contingent on the type of gear you're talking about. A few dings on the face of a distortion pedal may not make a huge difference to anyone, but a few dings on the face of a hand-crafted classical guitar can drastically impact its desirability. Age is also a major consideration. A 70-year-old mandolin can't be held to the same standard as one that was made this year. It's important to keep in mind that it's all relative.
And of course, if there's any uncertainty, you can always take more pictures and write more detailed descriptions to cover your bases.
View ArticleFirst off - Thanks for deciding to sell your gear on Reverb! We're excited to have you on board.
This article will teach you the basics of making a Reverb listing. For more advanced tips and tricks, check out our Seller Hub.
The first thing you should do is choose where you'd like to be paid, and what your return policy will be. You can edit both of these preferences on your Shop Policies page here.
With our Reverb Payments system, you have the option to get paid to a bank account or to Reverb Bucks that you can use on the site for future purchasing, or to transfer out to a bank account if you prefer.
Once you've set up your Payment and Return Policies, go ahead and click the orange "Sell" button in the upper right hand corner of the site:
here
From there, you'll simply need to fill out a single-page listing form to get your item up on Reverb and sold quickly. In this field, you'll fill out some basic information about your gear such as make, model, year, etc. Go ahead and fill out this form to the best of your abilities:
You can try out our new sell form out by entering in the item you are searching for under "What Would you Like to Sell?" or you can selectStart a listing from scratch if you prefer.
After that, if you haven't done so already, go ahead and snap some photos of your gear. Be sure to take detailed photos with good light in order to expose any blemishes or scratches that the gear may have so your buyer knows exactly what they'll be receiving. Here are some great tips for taking pro photos with your smartphone. You'll simply drag and drop those photos into this box to upload them. Each listing is allowed up to 25 photos:
Next, you'll be asked to write a description of your item. Be as thorough as possible, and again, make sure you disclose any blemishes or quirks about your item that may effect the value or usability of the gear in order to avoid any complications after your buyer receives it. Be funny, be original, be quirky, be you! Part of what makes Reverb special is our community full of awesome, unique users. If you copy and paste any technical specs of the item from a manufacturer, it would be appreciated if you'd credit the source:
Next comes the "How Will You Ship It?" section. This is where you, the seller, will dictate how much you'll charge for shipping to whichever countries you choose to ship to. Not sure what to charge? Click the blue "Shipping Estimator" button in the bottom of this box to find out. The "Everywhere Else" selection will allow you to set a blanket shipping cost to every other country aside from the one you're located in:
Once you've done all this, click "Save & Review Listing" at the bottom of the page. This will save your listing in "Draft" mode, allowing you to preview it and make any necessary tweaks before publishing it. If everything looks in order, just click "publish" to set your listing live!
Once your listing is live, keep an eye on your email inbox for updates on messages, offers, and purchases from other Reverb users.
Happy Selling!

View ArticleJust like negotiating with someone at a real marketplace, you can make an offer to a seller if you want to try to get the item at a lower price than it's listed for. If the "Make an Offer" button is not available on a listing, that means the seller has not opened it up for offers.
How to Make an Offer:
1. Select the "Make an Offer" button on the listing
2. Select your "Shipping to" location to ensure shipping rates are accurate
3. Enter your offer amount
4. Include a message to the seller if you would like
5. Click "I agree to pay if my offer is accepted"
6. Select "Submit Offer"
Please note that even if you have a pending offer with a seller, other Reverb users can still make offers at the same time or purchase it at any time for the full listing price.
What Happens After an Offer is Submitted?
Sellers have 24 hours to accept, decline or counter the offer. If the 24 hours pass without the seller responding, the offer will expire.
Are You Required to Make a Purchase if Your Offer is Accepted?
Yes, once your offer is accepted, or you accept a seller's counteroffer, the listing will be considered purchased to you. You will get an email notification as well as an "Unpaid Order" notification in the upper right-hand corner of Reverb and the item will be placed in your shopping cart to submit payment.
Once the offer is accepted, we allow buyers 72 hours to submit payment. It is important to message the seller with any delays on payment.
What Happens If You Don't Pay for Your Accepted Offer?
Abandoning orders after your offer is accepted creates extremely frustrating experiences for sellers, so Reverb frowns upon it strongly. Buyers with multiple abandoned orders are subject to account suspension. Please only make an offer on an item you intend on following through with your purchase.
Can an Offer be Cancelled?
If you made an offer in error, the best thing to do is select the "Message Seller" button on the listing to provide the seller with some insight and ask that they no longer consider the offer.
Once an offer is submitted, there is no way to cancel or retract it. Prior to making an offer, it's always best to review the listing and Shop Policies thoroughly to make sure you're ready to purchase.

You can complete the full Offer process on the most current version of the Reverb App on both Android and iOS. This should mirror the web experience above.

View ArticleSometimes, package carriers may determine that the entered weight and dimensions for a shipping label created on Reverb may have a variance from what they've received and will update the weight and dimensions accordingly.
If there is a difference, any additional charges or credits go back to the shipper. When this happens, Reverb will apply any additional label costs to your monthly Reverb statement.
1. Why did Reverb bill this? How does Reverb know this was accurate?
2. How can I help avoid this in the future?
3. How was the dimensional weight incorrect? I used a shipping/packing service by the shipping carrier.
4. Example Overage Scenario
Why did Reverb bill this? How does Reverb know this was accurate?
Shipping Providersaudit the weight and dimensions of each shipment against what was originally entered. They use the greater of the actual weight of a package or the dimensional weight, a calculation based on the size of the package. Depending on the entered and audited dimensions either could have been used for the quoted rate and final rate. For more information please see this explanation from UPS.
The only data Reverb has in these situations is what is provided as the audited weight or dimensions from the carrier and the resulting charges. Unfortunately, we are not able to dispute the charges or request additional information.Since UPS and Fedex are able to audit packages in this way, their scales and measuring devices are federally regulated and are themselves audited to ensure accuracy.
While these situations are quite rare, we do make it a point to make sure that any affected orders are noted accordingly on your statement. When purchasing a shipping label, Reverb always suggests that our sellers use tools such as scales and tape measures to ensure that the provided dimensions are accurate.
How can I help avoid this in the future?
Be sure to measure the final shipping box’s external dimensions and do not use the internal box dimensions that are often printed on the bottom of many shipping grade boxes. UPS and Fedex round up to the nearest inch, so if one of your external box dimension is 22 1/4 inches, then round it up to 23 inches to avoid additional charges.
We also suggest checking out our Reverb Shipping Guide for more information when shipping out any gear you may have recently sold!
How was the dimensional weight incorrect? I used a shipping/packing service by the shipping carrier.
Many of our sellers like to use UPS and Fedex shipping centers for packaging services. If one of these locations are building custom boxes or packaging for your item, be sure to double check the final weight and dimensions of the box before generating a shipping label. Custom built boxes are more likely to receive an audit, so dimensional accuracy is highly important in these situations.
In addition to custom built boxes, non rectangular or triangular boxes are also prime candidates for audit. If you are unsure on the exact measurement of one of these kinds of boxes, then imagine the package as a rectangular box, and be sure to use the greatest dimensions measurable for length, width, and height to avoid any additional charges
Example Overage Scenario:
UPS and Fedex primarily charge rates based on “Dimensional” weight rather than charging based on the actual, physical weight of the package. Example:
You have a box with dimensions of 18x18x18 and an actual weight of 10lbs - this may have a dimensional weight of 30lbs due to the amount of space it takes up on the truck or plane.
If UPS were to audit this package and determine that the box is in fact 19x19x19 that could increase the dimensional weight to 40lbs and would incur an additional shipping charge.
In this case, the audited weight of the box would be reported as 40lbs even if the box’s actual weight is still only 10lbs.

Gather documentation (e.g. photos, video) of any issues once they are encountered and message the seller on Reverb with that information
If the item arrived damaged, hold on to any packaging materials and the box it arrived in
Do not attempt to make any further modifications
Request a refund on the order
Allow the seller 24-48 hours to respond to this request
Once approved, ship the item back to the seller (unless a partial refund or other arrangements were discussed)
Once the item is back in the seller's possession, your refund should be initiated in 48 hours
If the seller remains unresponsive to your messages and refund requests after 48 hours, you can open up a support ticket with our Customer Engagement team to step in and assist!
Anything outside of that 7-day window, or a situation that is not damaged/not as described, we would then honor the seller's individual shoppolicies. It is always a good idea to check out the Shop Policies tab on any listing to see the seller's individual policies.
Did you purchase an item and it didn't ship out?
Reverb allows sellers 3 business days to get items shipped out and provide tracking numbers. If it is past the 3 business days, we would recommend contacting the seller for a status update. In the event the seller remains unresponsive, you can open a support ticket with our Customer Engagement team to assist.

View ArticleReverb knows exactly how frustrating it can be when you buy or sell gear that's clearly been damaged by a shipping carrier. It's even more frustrating and time-consuming to deal with the lengthy and arduous process of filing a damage claim directly with one of those carriers.
That's where Reverb Safe Shippingcomes in. When it comes to gear being damaged in transit, we've seen it all. Luckily, that experience allows Reverb to process damage claims quickly, fairly, and with more of a gear focus than shipping carriers.
When a seller buys a shipping label on Reverb, they can opt to protect the package viaReverb Safe Shipping for a small fraction of the item's value (this varies by category, price, and value). This gives the seller one of our resident musicians to work on their claim in the event of shipping damage. If there is no Reverb Safe Shipping purchased on the label, we can still assist with the process but can't guarantee a claim payout.
Did you ship a package that was damaged during shipment?
Please let us know by filling out this form and we'd be happy to assist.
________
You can read more onReverb Safe Shipping here.
*Please note*:
Reverb does not actively assist with damage claims on packages that were not shipped using a protected Reverb shipping label. We can give you tips and general guidance, but outside of that, there's not much we can do to assist, since carriers will typically only accommodate the shipper of record. Reverb only processes claims in-house for protected shipping labels that were purchased by the seller directly on Reverb. For instructions on how to proceed in these cases, please see this article.
If the item is repairable after shipping damage, Reverb reserves the right to cover the cost of repairs in lieu of a full claim payout to the seller, so the item can be re-sold.
Damage inquiries must be submitted within 7 days of package delivery.
Inquiries for lost packages can not be filed within 15 days of shipment for UPS or within 30 days of shipment for USPS.
Safe Shipping applies only during transit from your premises to the shipping destination. Reimbursement will not be provided when loss or damage is a result of improper, inadequate, or unsafe packaging or wrapping, which shall be determined at Reverb's sole discretion. See the FedEx general packing guidelines, UPS packaging guidelines or USPS preparing packages page for tips on preparing your package for proper shipping.
A flight case or other similar hard case packaging is not sufficient packaging.
The maximum reimbursement will not exceed the value of the item's sale price on Reverb.

Who will be paying for the cost of return shipping on items that are being sent back to you

What to do if a buyer reports issues on an order?
If there are any issues with an order, the first thing you should do is get in contact with the buyer directlyvia the order messages.
