What do you like best about the leadership team?

Leadership Reviews

My team works together and takes everyone's concerns seriously.

The current leadership team is too new to rate

leadership cares about the employees

Great place to work. Driven to grow smartly.

They seem to be very competent.

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Leadership Reviews

Slim YOUR costs and put people in the field to work instead of us having 450 managers, 237 directors, and 150 VPs. Quit giving the executive team huge bonuses, expensive cars, and stock options and put money into operations, the bread and butter of this company.

Getting out of the way, lots of egos and micromanagement. They want yes men but claim to want 'leaders', in reality, if you're related to senior management you're going to move up quickly. Other than that, good luck.

Technology would be out of date in 1994, let alone 2021. Lots of record profits and small raises, especially with inflation above the 'top level' salary increase. Emails about a new VP or Director but you certainly have zero incentive to work any harder, just hard enough to stick around and kiss up.

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Compensation Reviews

10% 401k match for new hires, no more pentions

Healthcare coverage, eye care, dental care

I think the Retirement package is great.

There is a matching 401k

fair and equitable compensation package

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Compensation Reviews

Compensation is relative, but it would be nice not to work your salaried and not salaried people 80 hours a week. People need a home life too.

Paid below market rates for work, while the pension is nice, it's the lowest in the area compared to all similar institutions, I'd imagine as profits go up, that'll be one thing they buy out to reduce costs.

If we were paid market rates then yes, it would be great. The compensation committee for some reason hasn't figured out that the internet exists and that we're paid lower than a majority of counterparts. Assuming things open up, I'd imagine your talent will leave, yet again. Especially younger kids.

What are some of the best things about your team?

Team Reviews

Hard working, understanding, got your back

Excited about their work, effective, great teamwork

Everyone gets along and looks out for each other.

Many unique skill sets and perspectives

At least I know I'm not going through it alone.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Team Reviews

The biggest worry with WFH was that productivity would drop, it's maintained and actually increased during COVID, mostly because you're not in useless meetings to make your boss feel like they're involved in the work they're responsible for. Mute and remain productive is the order of the day.

Haha, wow, the book 'Death by Meeting' personifies the meeting value provided at Southwest Gas Corporation. It's for micromanagement and bosses to have a reason to summon employees because they haven't learned how to use Teams yet.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Environment Reviews

We got each others backs

They care, and they try to make things fun or interesting

Everyone tries to bring a smile to your face.

the company creates an environment where employees can be the best version of themselves

Focused on doing things right.

What needs to change to make the company culture better?

Environment Reviews

Stop talking to and treating employees like they are stupid. Mind your tone, be professional, and understand that LIFE happens. Have some empathy.

Stop punishing competence by working them to burnout, those with options will always leave. Instead, get the laggards to a respectable level of competence and production.

After full vesting in the pension plan, five years later you need to buy out or not accrue further benefits to those employees, they haven't learned the new processes, systems, or done actual work in likely 20 years.

What did you like most about the interview process?

Interviews Reviews

They under stand your situation and give you time to answer

The interview committee seemed engaged and interested in what my answers were

just the right amount of interviews that included the people I interact with regularly

Hiring manager was very upfront about the job duties in my initial job, I appreciated that. After that it's been more "other duties as assigned" in my roles.

Demonstrate a minimal amount of knowledge and you're set, get ready to coast because that's what the majority of employees and management do.

Outlook Reviews

Diversity and haveing great leadership

Learning and interacting with everyone

I can work from home

Payday, other than that most are just trying to get through the day.

the work flexibility hours and the opportunity to work from home

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

Outlook Reviews

Regular top heavy organization, understaff and overwork everyone below then tell them they're lucky to have jobs when they ask for help. I love how there was a horse sponsored in the Kentucky Derby yet they had budget for 2% companywide increases after adding two new Vice Presidents. Teldar Paper?
