Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Expect to make 1/3 to 1/2 of market value unless you were friends with the founders prior to hire.

Well, if I hadn't been cut, I think they need to ensure that their talent is paid fairly.

I was told a number during my interview from my area sales manager and was offered a completely different number afterwards.

Very simple honesty the truth stop baiting your candidates

pay us a competitive wage adjusted for cost of living by region

They pay people at a sub-human rate - a good portion of their sales force is commission-only and ends up owing the company more than they make based on "pull-back" clauses.

Granted I've only been there for 9 months, I have acquired lots of responsibilities. I'm not complaining about them but I would appreciate a raise reflecting my abilities and work ethic.
