How flexible is your work schedule at Steelcase?
Very flexible. Culture is accepting of remote work to simplify day-to-day life (e.g. going to dentist, car repair). However - you’re also expected to work during late night/early morning if production issues arise.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at Steelcase?
At Steelcase, project management/finance skills are more highly valued than technical skills. And despite some sincere efforts to diversify the workforce, there’s still a long established good ole boys network that decides who gets interviewed, hired, and promoted and who doesn’t. Are you perhaps already in a long term contract position looking to settle in? This can be a difficult situation to overcome. One that can take years and may not work out the way you like. However, for others this still ends up being how they stay with Steelcase for 20+ years. Your best shot of being hired is to demonstrate superb project management skills (especially if you outsource technical tasks well) and establish a friendly relationship with management.
