They are smart and driven to keep the company's public-service journalism mission alive.

The Seattle Times is deeply rooted in tradition, yet innovative in its approach. The leadership team supports data-driven experimentation and through their learnings, have paved a path for many other media companies. There's a good culture towards development, and a strong commitment to mission.

Smart, compassionate, innovative bunch of work tirelessly in support of the mission. Some of the most humble people I've ever met.

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Good medical plan and market based comp

The amount of paid vacation.

Generous polices around sick and parental leave, plus 401k and health benefits

Might be the worst part about working here. We're paid fairly for the industry but hard to live in Seattle on current wages. Harder every year.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

What are some of the best things about your team?

Very collaborate and friendly company culture overall. I really like it here.

People are creative, intelligent, and believe in the mission of delivering local journalism via print and digital means.

People genuinely enjoy each other, and have stayed with the company for a long time as a result. There's a strong collaboration and support of each other.

Good-natured, big-hearted people who are flexible and understanding. Never feels political.

Personable, friendly, consistent, and helpful. Will fill in if I can't. Everyone is cross-trained to help out if there's a hole.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Environment Reviews

Respectful, collaborative and family like

Encouragement to improve and try new things. Customer centric thinking. Decisions are based on data and change is welcomed.

Room to experiment and offer new ideas. Everyone's opinion is valued.

Everyone is so dedicated to the mission. Never any question that we're all in this together.

Busy, fast work, with dedicated people. Never feels like we're wasting time on something unimportant but also never feels like there's any time to waste.

Large cross-section of our workforce including a few from other departments. I met nearly 18 people over the course of three interviews.

What makes you most happy at work?

Outlook Reviews

Working with small teams to create new features and improvements. Alot of leeway in how to be successful.

I enjoy change and new challenges, which there is no lack of at The Seattle Times. I am never bored!

The intellectual horsepower of the people here is incredible. Between that and their general demeanor, I feel respected even on the hardest days.

The mission: we're one of the last independent newspapers in the country.
