Identification of employee strengths/weaknesses and proper utilization of skills to benefit the company
Proper utilization of an employee's skills is a MUST in any manufacturing environment. Pay should take into account the value added by an employee, such as his/her ability to deliver good solutions, reduce injury, increase productivity, etc.
Use the interview process to help determine if a person will be a good fit for the job they are being interviewed for. Do not hire an engineer for an entry-level data input position. Do not hire a manager with poor management skills.
The most positive thing about the culture is that it will change in the future. As soon as the "good ol' boys" are no longer calling all the shots, I can see great things happening. Until then, the company will continue to suffer at the hands of poor management.
Innovation is being stifled by complacent people in roles of authority. How do you improve that situation...? You fire the people who are failing to do their jobs, from EHS to HR, from Management to Maintenance. And you hire people who are constantly trying to improve work conditions.
