What do you like best about the leadership team?
Nothing -- district mgr only threatens, never inspires or provides leadership
They leave the store manager and employees alone to do our jobs. But they don't seem to want to invest in hiring or retaining good employees. Hiring budget is minimal, no product training provided, payroll constantly being cut. It's not sustainable.
Only good thing about them is that I don't see them.
That they are available to assist and mentor
My SM was amazing. DM Lizzy Mae Kerr does not know how to treat or develop people. Frustrating to lose people to poor leadership. I know because this was PT job for me. Had my own company until I retired.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
They need to improve their communication, working as a team as well as not condescending or belittling employees in front of others.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Yes if I was able to shop online with my employee discount
I work full time but am not a full time employee, im the only person at my store that hasnt quit or left due to the manager
More payroll for more associates to do a better job
Better health benefits and also just better workmanship
I would feel better if the higher ups didn't feel like they have a power grip on the associates
What are some of the best things about your team?
Knowledge and willingness to help customers
The staff work well together and truly care about each other. There is a strong team spirit which allows to to watch out for the store and each other. We used to have effective employee meetings in which we learned about products and best practice procedures. Those have not happened in a few years

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
Learn and retain more of the company-provided training
Work on not calling others names and work on trying not to name slander all across the city
There are too many new employees in management roles. We need to have fewer "cooks in the kitchen", fewer stakeholders in every decision.

The people i work with and my manager

What needs to change to make the company culture better?
Hire better district-level managers that have leadership capabilities
hire competent workers and be respectful
The gossip from management about other employees needs to stop. The cattiness and unprofessional attitude from management needs to be dealt with.
More offices, less open environment, more privacy and personal space in general
What did you like most about the interview process?
it was short, very brief
It was a strange interview but that was mainly a product of the Interviewer who no longer is at West Marine

I interviewed 12 years ago, different manager. She was supportive, knew there would be a learning curve for me and supported me through my learning. Got along well, I was sorry to see her leave.
What I like most about the interview process was getting the job

What would you improve about your company's interview process?
Being true to self and not being fake and rude
I feel they need to take time to see If this person truly wants to work. Hire energetic, sociable people, and well driven. We are enter acting with customers who spend lots of money with us. They deserve to be appreciated, and receive a hello how are you. Boats are work . Make them smile.

They should be more respectful of people's issues and also if someone has to take a small break every couple hours because of a minor health issues. Please do not harrass or threaten them with firing right off the bat

What makes you most happy at work?
The hot yacht cougars,easy pickins
Helping a customer put together a plan to do a complete product and explaining the products and techniques involved. They walk out with everything they need for a complete job and the confidence that they can pull it off. It feels like passing it forward.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
They need someone who cares about the employees not a bean counter worried about numbers.
Someone needs to pay a visit and act like a customer and no one there knows.. Listen to the fowl language and how they degrade cashiers..
A lot of people who are customers find the manager creepy and my coworkers as rude and cold
Our company needs to replace registers and card readers instead of pulling more profit. Hire people that greet the customer, engage, and advise them of our memberships and protection plan.
