Under current market trends Bjs can not afford to properly screen and train management. Therefore, they hire or promote inadequate candidates with no professional people mentoring skills. The current trend in hiring is sparse, so that reflects directly within the company. Morale is low overall.
The people of Bjs make you feel like a family, many of their workforce have lived and worked for the company 15-20+ years. As of late, they forced out many retirees, long term team members, slashed salaries & eliminated many jobs in favor of less is more.
Felt very easy and I was very comfortable as if it was chatting with friends. This person who interviewed me saw my potential and gave me a chance. Thats the family aspect of Bjs, but it stops within the clubs. The higher you go, its more corrupt and favorable.
Salaries at Bjs are not averaged equally with other retail job in the market. Benefit packages are more expensive for lesser costing coverage. Finally Bjs only offers 0.5% for each %1 contributions to 401k (up to %6 total for a share of only %3). Understandably their profit margins are lower.
Train management better, leaders need to come out of their rocks and teach the company whats needed. Have more inclusive events for Team Members. Stop boring employees with minor events such as pizza or ice cream. Be inventive. Start a new trend, listen to your working staff, they do it everyday.
