Their vision, they desire to be great - to be the best. Some store managers do an incredible job at living and promoting the REI Vision.
Some in the company are stuck in 'old management' styles and need to adjust or move out of the way. They are hurting growth and development for many in the company and do not align with the way REI is doing things now.
Work life balance is not a thing for the managers in my area, many of us max out on vacation due to the inability to take time off. In writing they ask us to stick to 40 hours, but when the job isn't done in the time allotted you risk getting written up. My advice, live what you preach.
