H E B – I've been working at H-E-B for almost two years now, and I have to say that it was a great entry-level job and taught me a lot, but it eventually wore on me and I can hardly go into work now. Customers are rude, there is no variety in my tasks, and I had a bad manager that hid a felony for a year. | Comparably

What is the best part about your compensation package?

The 10% off, but it is only for HEB products.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Everyone is always upbeat; you just have to be careful to not let rude customers get you down.

What are some of the best things about your team?

I love my coworkers. As much as I don't like my managers, they do a good job of hiring people that are lively and fun to talk to.

What makes you most happy at work?

When they let me do more than just bag. Bagging is tiring and repetitive, and they hardly let me do other things, but I always enjoy it when they do, like when they let me clean registers.

What would you improve about your company's interview process?

After working for HEB for a year and a half , I interviewed to be promoted to a cashier. I thought it went well, but then my manager never called and I finally heard back via automated email. She avoided me when I asked to talk about it, and she promoted other people that were much newer than I was.
