How's the leadership on the Design team at Assurant?
Terrible. People have been promoted more or less at random and have no experience or ability to lead a team. There is absolutely no mentorship, only a slave-driving mentality to get prototypes with no usability studies pushed out the door.
What's the vibe like in the Design dept at Assurant? How many hours are you working?
In a word, awful. The culture of distrust, and the disregard for individual contributors, make coming in to the office a painful experience. Individual contributors are not afforded the autonomy they need to do their best work. Instead, restrictive policies have been placed on work from home days and flex hours, for seemingly no reason other than bureaucracy for bureaucracy’s sake. Rather than focusing on actual performance, management places the majority of its attention on what time employees arrive to the office, and how may days are taken to work from home each week. None of the leadership has shown any interest in getting feedback from individual contributors regarding how processes, culture—anything—might be improved. There is a clear disconnect and it gives a very bad appearance that contributors are not valued. Every contributor on my team is looking for new jobs because they are sick of the micromanagement and the toxic culture formed by the managers and leaders.
