Very open and transparent executive team. When we are not meeting goals this is clearly discussed and we try to find reasons and ways to solve issues. New goals are clearly communicated.

What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Leadership@Branch has lost its sense of humility as there has been a rapid turnover in the executive team in the past six months. All the focus has shifted to external factors affecting the company which means internal issues are getting neglected for longer durations. There is a need for balance.

The compensation is competitive, including a base salary, stocks, and other insurance and in-office benefits. My favorite benefit is compensation for at home tele-commuting (phone + internet).

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
It's not unique to Branch, but unless you are vocal and extroverted, you get ignored by the compensation radar even if you are an extremely high performer. Recognizing quiet performers once every year without the compensation and equity bumps is meaningless and a fast track to attrition.

Our team is humble, recognizes shortcomings and actively works on improving every single day. We are humble and actively invested in the company's goals and everyone is genuinely interested in improving each other and pushing each other upward.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
Hiring optimized for agreeability over skill, and for compliance over leadership so there are multiple leadership and innovation vacuums. Most of HR needs to be purged and entrepreneurial spirit needs to be brought back into the priorities.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
Key players can still command enough independence to do what's needed to keep things afloat.

The most positive attribute about the company culture is that its not actively toxic like at other peer companies. All the employees are genuinely nice, hard working, humble and helpful. Regardless of the shortcomings in the leadership team, the rest of the foundation is strong.

It is a very healthy, comfortable, and productive environment. I think this is a rare combination of great work done quickly and comfortably and with a lot of fun. Most comfortable companies I worked at were slow and boring. Most quick-moving overachieving companies I worked at were unhealthy.

There are many employee resource groups that anyone can join and participate in. There is also a weekly meditation hour.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
HR needs to be purged and restaffed. They're too inter-associated and are trying to bring the culture of their previous employers into the company. They are shockingly devoid of a working knowledge of Engineering organizations and culture. Simply look at who's left Branch in the last 120 days..

25% annual churn. Salt-lake effect. Ineffectual managers 90% in meetings of the week. Managers watching the charge from afar instead of carrying the flag into battle.
