What's the pay like for Operations roles at CareerBuilder?
Average
Below market for sure.
What's the vibe like in the Operations dept at CareerBuilder? How many hours are you working?
40
Vibe is good and fun. It’s the leadership (C level) that is concerning. Work life balance is one of CB’s strong points. Not sure if it will be that way with the new owners.
How's the leadership on the Operations team at CareerBuilder?
New leadership has come in from privite equity. Austerity austerity austerity is the name of the game.
Too tenured. Need some fresh ideas from outside leaders.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at CareerBuilder?
Transparency about the implications of our Apollo Group sale to rebuild trust and confidence in the company. We need to know what the future is going to look like to make decisions about whether to stay or go. A lot of recent take-aways and de-motivators (lay-offs, elimination of leadership development programs, high voluntary and involuntary turnover, benefit and bonus reductions, etc). Recent infusion of Apollo leaders at the top clearly messaging that they're profit squeezing in preparation to sell us off, probably in pieces. Feels like a company episode of Flip or Flop. Wages were already low, but at least we had great culture and work life balance. That's already changing and the best employees are quickly moving on and out. Be honest so your workforce has eyes wide open to expectations and we won't continue to see sacrifices in other important areas for the high cost of continuous turnover. If the new culture is for us to be obedient slaves , then prepare for a flop.
Change C suite
What part of CareerBuilder's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Background check (Aurico) is exploding, Benefits Admin software (Workterra) is a total bust.
Growing - customer success - bc of focus on renewals and retention. Difficulties - HCM products. Clunky, buggy
What's the interview process like at CareerBuilder?
Depends on the job. A lot of hiring managers aren't really experienced and not sure what we need right now, so typically it's about trying to make a personal connection with the person on the phone or other side of the desk.
Recruiter - hiring manager - hiring manager's peer, decision. Very fast process but often causes bad hires
How does CareerBuilder make decisions around promotions?
That's a great question since there aren't many happening now and most of them are under some kind of secretive process.
Performance based
How often do raises happen at CareerBuilder?
Once a year and it's typically around 4%-5%, but we're anticipating much less this year. Quarterly bonuses have been paying out at 50-75% because of revenue struggles.
Once a year between 3-4%. So negotiate high salary coming in bc the raise will not even cover cost of living and cost of health benefits each year.
How common is it to switch departments or teams at CareerBuilder?
Pretty common. People change teams a lot.
Pretty common almost to a fault.
How's the feedback proccess at CareerBuilder?
Feedback is actually pretty good. It's a pretty safe environment for open, fair and candid feedback (down and across, but not up).
Quarterly reviews but most managers hide behind difficult feedback. Part of this is because employees move into management and do not have the skills to be an effective manager.
What's the best part of your job at CareerBuilder?
Without hesitation, my coworkers.
Workife balance and casual environment (in Norcross)
How do you feel about CareerBuilder's future?
It will be different than its past, in some good ways and some bad. Product development is looking up, culture and engagement is not. Will see what Apollo does to keep the company competitive and profitable.
With new ownership by a private equity firm and holding leaders more accountable for fiscal responsibilities, I feel CB is getting foundations in place to position the company towards success.
What does the leadership team at CareerBuilder need to get better at?
Don't celebrate losses as wins. A mindless worker is not a happy one.
it's all leaders from a certain era. no thought to future leaders program or transitioning people internally into those roles.
Does CareerBuilder have a volunteer program?
Yes, 2 days off per year.
How flexible is your work schedule at CareerBuilder?
Very flexible for me. I work from home one day a week and can arrive early or late if I need to. I don't have a set schedule. My leader has always been flexible and I am flexible with my team also.
What should I wear for an interview at CareerBuilder?
You should always dress professionally for an interview, in my opinion.
How much diversity is there among employees at CareerBuilder?
At the executive level, a lot. At the lower levels, less.
Who did you meet with during your interview? And how long did it take to hear back from CareerBuilder?
Manager/Director/VP
What's the pay like for HR roles at CareerBuilder?
Not competitive. Historically low comp. ranges
What's the Engineering team like at CareerBuilder?
The engineers and team leads are fantastic, and there are genuinely interesting problems to work on. If you like working with solutions at scale, it's a great.
How's the leadership on the Engineering team at CareerBuilder?
Upper management is bad at communication. For example, most of the company found out that promotions and raises were being delayed through rumors instead of an official announcement. In fact, there still hasn't been an official announcement, and the increases would have normally gone into effect this week.
What's the Operations team like at CareerBuilder?
Operations meaning IT, finance, HR, marketing, facilities. Leadership is the issue here. IT was run very well and by one of the strongest C level leaders. But the company decided to replace him.

How's the work pace at CareerBuilder?
Chaotic
