Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility at Cargill

Connecting our global food system to nourish the world and protect the planet Cargill is working to nourish the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. We've been in business for more than 150 years and have a history working with partners to navigate our complex food system from field to table.

Environmental factors in the beef supply chain include biodiversity, air emissions, water use, energy use, land management, waste and by-products. We support environmental sustainability efforts by cattle producers and through our active membership in the Global Roundtable on Sustainable Beef, a multi-stakeholder organization working to continuously improve the beef industry. In our own operations, we conserve natural resources, improve water and energy efficiency, and reduce solid waste and reliance on fossil fuels. We use an environmental management system based upon the requirements of ISO 14001 at all our beef and cattle feeder locations.

Cargill invests in local communities through economic development, partnerships and giving combined with the volunteer efforts of our employees. Cargill provides corporate support to select national and global nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that serve communities in which we have a business presence. We support partners working within our focus areas of food security, nutrition, and sustainability. And, our businesses and facilities sponsor employee-led groups, called Cargill Cares Councils, which support civic and non-profit organizations in their local communities.

Cargill Cares Councils seek to recognize issues important to our communities; build effective relationships with community leaders; and work to help improve living standards and promote vibrant, stable communities.
