Q&A With Echo Global Logistics Employees

The culture in IT is very forced. It's not healthy and the culture outside of it exists naturally and typically for mutual disdain for the company.

  • The company tries VERY hard to create a culture that is "hip" and "fun". A lot of the time it feels forced and that they are trying to hard. What doesn't help is that they're doing to cover up their down falls and to high the fact that they don't compensate well. Nepotism is the culture.

  • Open floor fast paced environment

Really nothing. I generally dread going to work here everyday.

  • Nothing very depressing environment and if your not in upper management your thoughts, concerns and hard work goes unnoticed. Extremely underappreciated.

  • Occasionally seeing a project created by the workers on the floor shepherded to fruition by an understanding and caring manager.

The office is laid out in such a way that there is never a place where you will feel warm without wearing a sweater.

  • Open floor

  • Very open and distracting. The open office concept works well for sales and other positions, but for IT and Software Engineers, it's incredibly distracting and causes productivity to drop. Too many rows are thoroughfares which creates more of a constant distraction.

  • If you're not in Sales or you are not lucky enough to be in the special inner circle of Information Technology or Finance you will not be recognized.

  • Other than team lunches, there aren't really any outings other than "award" events which the "awards" typically always go to the same people.

  • Outings are usually pretty fun. There are always adult beverages, and your co-workers are usually pretty cool. Some of the outings are paid for by Echo and sometimes not, but they always let you know beforehand.

Technology is growing, but with no real goal other than fix crappy code and ad more code on top of a crappy infrastructure. Everything else is stagnant.

  • Managed Transportation is doing very well right now and they all deserve raises. The MT Ops department are some of the most overworked and underpaid people at Echo. Information Technology is lagging behind because they cannot retain leadership or rank and file membership.

  • Managed transportation is probably growing the fastest. I feel like we could still do a LOT better with our flatbed network.

Many are very arrogant and rude.

  • Most of my co-workers are 100% awesome! The people here are the best part of the job!

  • Lower levels are nice while the higher you go, the increase in nepotism you see.

Sometime free lunch on Fridays every other week. Other than that, nothing really else.

  • Healthcare, FMLA, Dental, PTO, Rollover PTO, minimal 401K match, some gym membership discounts, working in a building with perks.

  • We have great health insurance, 401k, and a very responsive HR staff. Again, your vacation days are yours, so you can take them whenever you want, and if any home situations arise, management is very understanding.

You have to really screw the pooch to get fired. People show up still drunk from the night before, past 10 AM, will take "lunch" in the bar on the building's first floor, so on and so forth. The only way you can really get fired is if you make an enemy in management or start a fight.

  • Not common at all. Only people who have a blatant disregard for common decorum, or people who show up and don't work EVER get laid off.

  • This process could move a little faster... You apply for the promotion and the heads seem to talk about it for months before anything is final. They DO prefer to promote from within, which I think is great!

  • Depends on how much they like you and not necessarily in a technical sense.

  • The pay here is decent comparatively in the market, but I would absolutely leave for more money.

  • Horrible pay, management, nepotism, brown nosing, lack of structure, constantly moving desks/teams, no one has your back other than yourself, and management will constantly think you're an idiot and that they will always know better.

  • Not difficult. A lot of times your social life becomes a part of work because you become such good friends with your co-workers.

  • Very. They expect you to work even while on the weekends, vacation, or at home in general without any compensation. It's not verbally said, but the stigma and feel by the upper management is there to pressure you to work more for less.

  • Not great. It's getting better. In my branch, it seems the management has just recently discovered that positive reinforcement can have a greater impact than negative reinforcement. They also need to step up their continued industry learning past new-hire training.

  • They will take your good ideas, take them, and other will get credit. Other than that they just tell you how you can improve without caring about your improvements. Do things for you and not for the company.

Be likable and dress properly. On numerous occasions I've heard upper management judge people on what they wear and look.

  • At Echo it's either about experience or personality. If you have at least some college experience OR a good amount of customer service/sales experience, and you're a little more exciting than a paper bag, they'll probably hire you. On an interview, definitely let your real personality shine through, at least a little bit. They want to know who you are and how well you will fit in with the team.

  • We have amazing health insurance. You are encouraged to use your vacation days (without too much guilt), and really you have to be a dummy or a lazy bum to get fired. Again, your co-workers are a pretty cool too.

  • Great employees that are smart and skillful, but unfortunately end up leaving once they find out how bad the company is. Beer Fridays is a plus.

Very bleek. No innovation or understanding that 3PL will die with the evolvement of technology. More importantly, the executives and upper management are more about the success of their own pockets and ego than of the company as a whole.

  • I think Echo has a bright future. It's really a great company to work for, particularly for people in their 20's and 30's.

  • The work pace is moderate. You generally stay busy enough to not be bored. Some days CAN get slow, and some days you WILL be slammed, but it all evens out.

  • The pace for the most part is fast, but it's a lot like "hurry up and wait". The managers go " go go go", but nothing gets pushed due to planning incompetence of the product managers and the higher executives not properly understanding and using technology.

  • Learning the industry is the biggest challenge. It is complex and ever-changing, but once you have a grasp of that, the work itself isn't too terribly challenging. That being said, every day is different. On any given day, a mind-bending situation could arise, and the biggest challenge there is just to be a problem solver and don't be afraid to ask for help.

  • I feel pretty challenged on the technical aspects, and the political aspect is incredibly challenging with people constantly throwing other under the bus and undermining people to get ahead. The culture is extremely toxic and I hate every singlle day going there with a passion. It's a horrible atmosphere and a horrible way to live a life.

  • Not very flexible. Everything is documented to the hour typically and you have to schedule meetings no matter how quick it might be. There is a lot of wasted time and meetings. For the balance of life and work, there isn't much time for life. They have you work after hours and on the weekends often with no compensation other than bagels or some disappointing lunch.
