What did you like most about the interview process? It was low stress and conversational.
What are some of the best things about your team?My specific team was good at their jobs, and so were all of non management. My team had great collaboration, freedom, listening and everyone wanted to build the right product. We also had a lot of fun together, remote and in person. (It's easier to have fun remotely when we feel valued.)
What do you like best about the leadership team?Leadership enjoys socializing together and that is their best trait (probably why they don't want to do remote work), but this doesn't make up for not listening to expertise on the team or to users to make an actually valuable product.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved? It's simple. Get real user feedback and use the talents of your team members to their greatest potential. Iterate products following known product development practices. Reduce how often you do rebrandings or new color schemes. Find ways to make sure staff feel safe to speak honestly.
What needs to change to make the company culture better? The company is incredibly lucky to have talented employees under management. Management should use all of our talents instead of decide what to do blindly, with no data or expertise. You can't mask toxic family dynamics with 'company culture' and a night out or in-office banter.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation? The most enjoyable part of being on a team is being listening to and helping to build something. Despite being one of the most experienced in many fields, I was more often than not ignored. I was never given shares, one bonus in 4 years; even more time off would help. I would like consistent raises.
