General Motors Interviews Employee Reviews

What did you like most about the interview process?

Multiple interviews coupled with a thorough background check so that any person evaluating the "best Fitness" of a candidate has a solid basis to make the hiring decision.

The interviewer questions and listening skills

Knowledgeable interviewers, after initial phone and chat

Very laid back and very though

Interviewing with multiple people in separate sessions made the interview personal. I have done interviews infront of a panel which does not feel personal.

It was too long ago to remember but back then I'd say being a 3rd generation auto worker may have had an advantage.

Meeting all the big people before i get on the floor

Review from Product Dept

8th level had no skills or training in interview process

Review from Sales Dept

I do not think i like any of it. It is just a necessary process

The interveiwer was down to earth and very knoledgeable

Directly interviewing with your manager(s)

Anyone can get hired there if you have a pulse and are breathing apparently.

Face to face, virtual, and one on one

Review from Design Dept

I enjoyed being given the room to answer questions with stories

It was very well planned

It felt pretty standard. No complaints. If anything it made me look back at my prior work experieneces and wonder if I was mistreated at previous jobs.

Keep me updated , which was nice

Review from Operations Dept

We learn things about general motors.

I felt like they wanted to really get to know me and the unique qualities I bring to the table

The interview was done remotely

What would you improve about your company's interview process?

Get away from outside venders screening candidates.

To meet the people you want to hire

It was a joke now that I look back on it. They told me everything I wanted to hear. I fell for it hook line and sinker, I was young and had a new family to take care of. I don't think they are capable of improving they need to be truthful.

Review from Engineering Dept

Clarity about the career or position

Managers have no idea if candidates are qualified. They're just guessing and estimating based off generic factors.

Review from IT Dept

Give more difficult technical interview questions

Review from IT Dept

Not use an outside company to find referrals.

Review from Operations Dept

Start hiring people who know about cars

Review from Product Dept

No panel interviews. The should be eliminated.

Review from Operations Dept

Can be less abrasive. More open-minded questions and processes.

Review from Operations Dept

the recruitment process needs to be systemized and standards need to be clarified

Review from HR Dept

Roles should be aligned with the job description.
