How employees describe working at Medallia
Medallia provided me plenty opportunities to grow and learn, and that made a better professional.
Review from HR Dept
I am given an opportunity to succeed. That being said, Medallia is fast paced with frequent changes with the goal posts changing directions regularly. People with the ability to improvise, adapt and overcome are successful here.
Super intelligent, hardworking, and team players.
Review from Sales Dept
Setting a clear product vision
Review from Customer Success Dept
Medallia used to be an amazing company to work for, unfortunately this is no longer the case, bad and toxic management in Europe who are taking poor and unconstructive decisions for people and business

What does the leadership team at Medallia need to get better at?
Top Employee Response
Leadership is terrible. No strategy, no transparency. Amy and Borge are squandering our market leadership
They need the capacity for empathy. They have zero consideration for how much everyone below them does and what we have to put up with.
The leadership team needs to start believing in its employees more.
What needs to change to make the company culture better at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
It's toxic here. The amout of politics and quality of people management is atrocious. The company does not know what leadership really is.
Actually care about your employees. Corporate politics are rampant
The company needs to admit that it is "no longer a startup", and stop trying to act like one.
What is the best part about your compensation package at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
Competitive compensation at the high end of market with compelling equity included as part.
Good base and equity. Bonus would be great.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
Grossly underpaid. Working two levels above stated level for three years and constantly lowballed on comp.
I spend more time working one to two levels above my role and my compensation doesn't reflect this and leadership couldn't care less.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
An overwhelming, unapologetic focus on people and culture overall. From interviews to onboarding to growth.
Fun, lively, extreme focus on learning.
What do you like best about the leadership team at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
Genuine and low key.
Generally strong. Still working on communication and how we reach the right people with the right message at the right time while we scale.
How are layoffs handled in the Engineering department at Medallia?
Never seen one
What are your coworkers at Medallia like?
Mostly smart and fun.
What are you most excited about working at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
I wasn't excited about working there.
What benefits does Medallia provide?
Top Employee Response
The usual. But still no 401k match (sad). And the life insurance, even though it's 100% subsidized, it's crappy and benefits cap @200K, which is kind of ridiculous.
What's the company culture like at Medallia?
It caters too much to the younger crowd for my taste.
How does Medallia make decisions around promotions?
In theory, it's based on merit and semestral 360-like feedback reviews.
How much and how often do raises happen at Medallia?
I got 1 within 6 months but can't say much more.
What's the best part of your job at Medallia?
Most of the people is fun to be around.
What kind of people succeed at Medallia?
Those who quickly understand how to fit into the sociopolitical engines, learn how to use the so revered Medallia "culture" and values to their own advantage and find the right ways/channels to bubble up above the crowd will do pretty well there.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at Medallia?
Read the famous interview books and memorize those usual puzzles. Medallia Engs. like to interview like Google, even though the reality of the work is far far away from anything like that.
How challenged are you at Medallia?
I felt much more challenged in terms of the social/interpersonal/processual/political aspects of the job than technically. In fact, after working there for >1 year I don't have anything useful or interesting to add to my technical skills list in my resume.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining Medallia?
How bad the actual tech debt situation is.Definitely!
How's the morale at Medallia?
So-so. As Medallia grows, it's more and more difficult to keep that startup aura and that definitely affects the younger staff. Also, the more the IPO gets delayed, the more it gets hard for Medallia to attract and/or retain good talent (at least at the HQ area).
What's the office layout like at Medallia?
I liked it. After recent move from Palo Alto to a more corporate-like building in San Mateo, office looks and feels much more professional and less childish and noisy while still being quite modern and open. The Zoom Meeting rooms are awesome!
What's the Engineering team like at Medallia?
Many good talented Engineers but also many Jr. / unseasoned ones and a few ones that have been there for many years and feel too much attached to the ways things have always been done and are a bit resistant to change.
How's the leadership on the Engineering team at Medallia?
They seem to be well-intentioned most of the time but sometimes they look a bit lost.
How's the work life balance at Medallia?
Top Employee Response
Excellent. I'm able to take my kids to school, be home in time to give them their bath. We're encouraged to use our unlimited PTO, I've taken multiple extended family vacations in my first year.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better at Medallia?
Clearer roles and responsibilities.
What makes you most happy at Medallia?
