Q&A With MSG Networks Employees

Asked to all employees at MSG Networks

  • Yearly inflation raises between 1-3% but are also based on merit. There is an opportunity to get bonuses but I have only heard of one person getting one. The only way to get a significant raise is to get promoted (which rairly happens) or to get a job elsewhere.

  • It's pretty difficult when you work at night & don't have weekends off. Schedules are constantly changing so you can't plan anything. Vacation requests are regularly denied because they are understaffed & won't hire anyone else.

  • Depends on the day. If I don't have any meetings, I am excited. Knowing I have to go to three meetings right when I get to work is what makes the job less fun. Basically any interaction I have with higher-ups is aggravating & unproductive.

  • If you work in production, apply in the summer because they might need someone for the season. But really, no one ever leaves this place & the only way to get a job here is if you know someone or if you're amazing at what you do. Even if you are amazing at what you do, be prepared to work for 15-20% less than what you're worth.

  • The part that's growing fastest is their aging customers. They have difficulties bringing themselves up to date with technology. You need a cable subscription to use their app, which no young person has. All they ever say is that they want to make their fan base younger but when you tell them how, they say "no we can't do that."

  • Very poor. Sports take place on almost every major holiday so you will be working Christmas, the days before & after thanksgiving, New Years, Easter, etc etc. also sports take place at night so some people have to work at night & don't have Saturday or Sunday off. Instead they will have Monday & Tuesday off. You also work long hours & a lot of people don't get overtime.

  • Very few people are promoted. No one ever leaves the company so there's no real room for growth. The only way I've seen someone get promoted was to create a new position for them. Even that doesn't happen often because of budget restrictions.
