How often do raises happen at MSG Networks?
Yearly inflation raises between 1-3% but are also based on merit. There is an opportunity to get bonuses but I have only heard of one person getting one. The only way to get a significant raise is to get promoted (which rairly happens) or to get a job elsewhere.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at MSG Networks?
It's pretty difficult when you work at night & don't have weekends off. Schedules are constantly changing so you can't plan anything. Vacation requests are regularly denied because they are understaffed & won't hire anyone else.
How rewarding is your job at MSG Networks?
Not very rewarding. Yes, I get to work on sports & that's cool, but it's very easy work & I'm not learning anything.
How common are layoffs at MSG Networks?
Almost never. No one ever leaves.
How do you feel about going to work at MSG Networks everyday?
Depends on the day. If I don't have any meetings, I am excited. Knowing I have to go to three meetings right when I get to work is what makes the job less fun. Basically any interaction I have with higher-ups is aggravating & unproductive.
How's the feedback proccess at MSG Networks?
Very poor. Boss will say one thing, then when you do it, change everything last minute. Very frustrating.
What kind of people succeed at MSG Networks?
Brown-nosers & relatives of current/past higher-ups.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at MSG Networks?
If you work in production, apply in the summer because they might need someone for the season. But really, no one ever leaves this place & the only way to get a job here is if you know someone or if you're amazing at what you do. Even if you are amazing at what you do, be prepared to work for 15-20% less than what you're worth.
How secure do you feel at your job at MSG Networks?
I feel very secure. No one ever gets fired, no one ever leaves, no one else gets hired.
What's the best part of your job at MSG Networks?
Being able to say that I work there. People are always impressed when you say you work for them.
How do you feel about MSG Networks's future?
It'll be fine, people will always love sports. This is what holds them back from being innovative. They can do the bare minimum & get along fine.
How challenged are you at MSG Networks?
Barely to not at all. Discouraged from using new ideas or practices so everything is out dated & templated.
How's the work pace at MSG Networks?
Depends on the department. Production & on-air are very fasted paced. Marketing & IT are slower.
What benefits does MSG Networks provide?
401K with 4% match, medical, dental, eyes, HSA, snacks at work, & pretax transit passes.
What's the office vibe like at MSG Networks?
Tense & stressful. The weekends are nice because all the "corporate" people aren't in the building.
What are your coworkers at MSG Networks like?
All my coworker's are disgruntled because the bosses are not helpful, overly critical, incompetent, & they're all scared of their own bosses.
What interview questions does MSG Networks ask?
Who do you look up to? When did you overcome something? When did you take the lead on a project? How did you deal with a nasty coworker?
What's the interview process like at MSG Networks?
Phone call from HR. Meeting with HR. Meeting with department head. Meeting with direct supervisor. All generic questions like "Who do you look up to? When did you overcome something?"
What part of MSG Networks's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
The part that's growing fastest is their aging customers. They have difficulties bringing themselves up to date with technology. You need a cable subscription to use their app, which no young person has. All they ever say is that they want to make their fan base younger but when you tell them how, they say "no we can't do that."
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at MSG Networks?
Take the work less seriously. It's sports & people will always watch. Don't make people work on Christmas for Pete's sake. It's insane. Don't make people work 10 hours a day. If you do, please pay them for it.
What do people at MSG Networks think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
I honestly have not heard people praise or complain about the CEO. I'm don't sure if it's taboo or people don't really care.
How's the work life balance at MSG Networks?
Very poor. Sports take place on almost every major holiday so you will be working Christmas, the days before & after thanksgiving, New Years, Easter, etc etc. also sports take place at night so some people have to work at night & don't have Saturday or Sunday off. Instead they will have Monday & Tuesday off. You also work long hours & a lot of people don't get overtime.
Does MSG Networks have any remote positions?
None that I am aware of but some people do have the option of working from home sometimes but you have to request it.
How does MSG Networks make decisions around promotions?
Very few people are promoted. No one ever leaves the company so there's no real room for growth. The only way I've seen someone get promoted was to create a new position for them. Even that doesn't happen often because of budget restrictions.
How's the vacation policy at MSG Networks?
Entry level - 3 weeks paid vacation & 1 week sick pay. Mid level - 4 weeks paid vacation & 1 week sick pay. Etc etc
