Brand power has helped. Semi-regular re-orgs have presented opportunity. Great people have opened doors for me and made sure credit went to me vs. them. And those same great people have gently encouraged paying it forward for others.
I find that the work life is very draining. It constantly feels like the company is preparing to go broke, instead of focusing on expanding and building on the great products and people we have.
