The managers in my area are awesome! Very supportive and understanding. The district manager is very professional. We don't interact with anyone higher up than that.
The pay is fair, maybe a little low for the work and industry standard but nothing outrageous. There are very limited financial benefits such as stocks and retirement plans.
The interview process was simple and straight forward. I was asked about prior experience on my resume and then some scenario based questions. We did a customer role-play scenario and a tour of the store.
Payless is a family store that has been around for a while and will probably continue on. In the past years we've faced some financial trouble but corporate has done a great job of managing that.
We don't have many company meetings for the store but we do have occasional district meetings with all the stores in the area. My co-workers are decent but there can be a high turnover rate (mostly from employees fired over bad judgement calls)
This can be a stressful job, especially when we are understaffed which is often. There is a lot of pressure on the employee staff because there is one manager over the store who is often at meetings or other stores and the responsibility to run the store falls on associates
