SCAN was founded in 1977 by a group of twelve diverse senior activists in Long Beach, California who were determined to improve access to the care and services they needed so they could stay healthy and independent. They brought together experts in medicine, gerontology, psychology, and social services and formed the not-for-profit Senior Care Action Network, now known as SCAN. Today, SCAN continues to innovate the way seniors are cared for through a variety of programs, products, benefits and services including SCAN Health Plan, Independence at Home, Healthcare in Action, Welcome Health, myPlace Health, and Homebase Medical.
