Q&A With Sony Employees

Asked to all employees at Sony

  • Rewards mediocrity, loyalty, and working long hours rather than working smarter or attaining good results.

  • Every one for themself.

Stop interdepartmental billing immediately. Have accounting assign a "cost " for work done that gets charged back to title. Everyone needs to be working towards the same goal of growing business and creating valuable assets.

  • Change the way executives are incentivized

  • The nepotism within the company is blatant and unsuccessful. Managers higher friends and family members that are completely incompetent at best. Office politics and catty childish behavior and a gossip culture that involves all levels is not only tolerated but involves some of management and in other trusted positions. And when promotions are given, they are rarely based on merit. These are where a few key improvements need to be made.

  • TV has been doing well. Electronics seems to have disappeared and Motion Pictures, especially without 007 or Spiderman, is flailing.

  • Home entertainment is obviously in trouble. TV still seems to be growing, although at a slower pace than it was several years ago.

Asked to all employees at Sony

  • Meh, the CEO is a face. Sony is a conglomerate so employees mainly deal with their direct supervisors and those that supervise their supervisor. The CEO is untouchable by the "little people". Chances are, if your name isn't in Variety or google searchable as a "somebody" within the company...you would hardly get the opportunity to provide feedback on any interaction with him.

  • CEO's have been talking about "One Sony" for a long time. With the class structure of entitlement and benefits that are created and designed only for the top executives, there will never be any incentive for the leaders to change anything.

Asked to all employees at Sony

  • It depends on what department you work in and what your responsibilities are. The company tries to create an atmosphere where employees have the opportunity to work out on site, and they host weekly happy hours to build a sense of community...but it's not all that helpful when you just don't have the time.

  • It completely depends on the department and the boss you work for.

Asked to all employees at Sony

  • Some are completely professional. Others are like teenage girls in high school

  • Sony is a classic study of the "haves" and the "have nots". Those in power have created a very unproductive business by incentivizing interdepartmental billing and profit centers That focus a great deal of man power managing business divisions that don't support real growth... only the bonuses of the executives are supported.
