Western Governors University Compensation Employee Reviews

What is the best part about your compensation package?

No one goes into academia for the money (other than professional administrators), but the paycheck offers a livable wage.

Opportuinity for raises, but they are making it harder and harder to achive

We have really great family leave and mental health benefits.

I really like the health savings opportunity. I wish the coverage was a little better with high deductible and I wish the pay was better

Review from Customer Support Dept

I have health insurance. It isn't great, but it is something. I can tell that WGU is working to support families more.

benefits, retirement and HSA specifically

Health Benefits and the 401k

403b matching and payment into HSA

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Higher compensation; better healthcare plan;

The pay scale is low for faculty compared to other

Leadership doesn't really listen. Claims transparency but isn't

Because they are losing money.

Management was clearly where the value and money was. But for those who have worked there for a long time, that experience was not valuable.

Too many students to attend too properly

I need a raise and I don't want my metrics to include withdrawals. Things happen in stidents lives that we have no control over- hello! COVID. More coverage when Im out sick or on vacation- dont want to come back to loads of work.

We do so much work, and only get a sporadic, "good job!" through Teams every now and then. Endless calls and emails, and terrible pay to show for it. Raises are only annual and feel abritrary.

Review from Customer Support Dept

We are no longer given consistent bonuses, and annual adjustments rarely make up for cost of living increases. If you are trying to live off of base pay only, it is hard to survive and support a family.

Men make more than me for the same position.

I’m paid what new hires are paid and I’m in an elevated /tier 2 role

Review from Customer Support Dept

I've heard of people getting less of a raise when their performance review was "exceeds expectations" vs. "meets expectations" the years before. Lack of transparency in how comp is decided is very troubling. This results in lack of motivation for employees, they are there to make a living after all

I feel very undervalued at my job! If it were not for my job, we would not have students and therefore no one else would have jobs.
