Executive Bio

Ms. Monica F. Azare serves as Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at Verizon Communications Inc. Ms. Azare served as Head of Corporate Employee Communications Function at Verizon Communications Inc. since July 2008. She served as Senior Vice President of State Public Policy and Government Affairs for New York and Connecticut at Verizon Communications Inc. since February 2006 until July 2008. She served as an Executive Director and Senior Counsel of Federal Affairs for Verizon Wireless at Verizon Communications Inc. She was responsible for state legislative and political activity in New York and Connecticut, including Verizon's video franchising initiative for its FiOS TV service. She was responsible for managing federal legislative efforts before the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to joining Verizon Wireless in 2000, Ms. Azare served as Vice President of Federal Affairs for Insight Communications. Before that, she served as Chief Counsel and Legislative Director to Chairman of the House Telecommunications, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee. She has been an Independent Director at LHC Group, Inc. since November 2007. Ms. Azare serves as a Director of New York City Partnership Foundation and Louisiana State University College Advisory Board. She serves as a Director of Business Council of New York State Inc. Ms. Azare was a David Rockefeller Fellow from 2007 to 2008. Ms. Azare is a Member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Corporate Counsel of Women of Color. Ms. Azare served as a 1997 U.S. delegate to the World Trade Organization negotiations of the Basic Telecommunications Agreement in Geneva and as an accredited state delegate to the INTELSAT privatization meetings in Brazil. Ms. Azare graduated from Louisiana State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communications. She received her Juris DoctorateLaw Degree from the Southern University Law Center in 1994.
